Yeah, and ironically enough, in the "My Favorite Wife" version and with the genders swapped, it was Nick Arden's wife Ellen who becomes shipwrecked on a desert island with the Randolph Scott character Stephen Burkett, and who during their time together begins referring to his fellow inhabitant on said island as "Eve".
And thus of course making her...yeah, that's right...

(...sorry TB, couldn't resist)

Of course there is no indication of the amount of negative posts one gets to make before receiving warnings and there is no information about what amount of warnings will trigger disbarment from the boards.
Wow! "Disbarment"?! Didn't realize I was the only non-lawyer around here!
(...that'll teach me to read the fine print from now on!)

-
Well, I'll try.
Well then dark, WHATEVER ya do, do NOT try doin' a Johnny Carson/Floyd R. Turbo impression while tryin' NOT to do that!

(...'cause THAT'S pretty near impossible, ya know!!!)

LOL

It's hilarious to me that someone would prefer to scroll through all kinds of posts they've already read, searching for the end - only to then have to back up looking for where they last left off, and then try to paint that lack of adaptiveness as The American Way.
And follow that with a completely false point that that method of search equates to "reading".
Sarcasm - true. But not exactly what we'd call "clever" sarcasm, right lavender?
Well, ONLY because I feel Dr. Kimble might have been wrongly convicted for the murder of sarcasm here(wink, wink), I would like to interject that his idea of the latest postings being in the highest numbered pages of each thread and that on said page the latest posting being at the bottom and not the top, does NOT preclude the idea that a website can also program itself to perform the function of presenting to each signed-in member their last "unread" posting, IF they had previously clicked upon that thread and page, and signify it as "new" and/or "unread" to said signed-in member. And that if there are more than one "unread" postings on that page, it will then present to this signed-in member the earliest "unread" posting at the top of their screen and the newer postings below it and based upon each of their posting times.
(...this is how another website which I frequent has been programmed since its inception in 2002, and to be honest here, I actually prefer it that way, however in the grand scheme of things, it's really no big deal to me one way or the other)
-
I also liked The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, even though it felt like a good idea gone wrong. I don;t know if anyone is familiar with it, but it features Sean Connery as Alan Quatermain, leading a host of literary anti-heros (like Capn Nemo and Mina Harker) against Dr Moriarty and his war machines of doom. I think it may have been a graphic novel first?
Well, ya know tracey, Steampunk IS so last year now...and only the really un-cool kids are still into it.

Gotta admit however that I recently watched this flick on TV, and afterward couldn't understand why the critics ravaged it so unmercifully. It wasn't all that bad in my book, either.

I know. I'm also on the Triumph Motorcycle website. My user name over there is Ultimate Gearhead. I don't know anything about motorcycles, but lack of knowledge hasn't stood in my way over here either.
LOL
-
I'm confused. Haven't the most recent posts always appeared first on a thread?
Yes they have, finance. However, the suggestion here is that some prefer how other websites program their forums, which is that the highest numbered pages listed for each thread and the latest postings once opened to a thread are to be found at the bottom of each page. And once opened to the last page, it's(or can be) programmed so that your screen will later present the first posting you haven't yet read in each thread.
The other website I frequent about Triumph motorcycles is programmed in this manner.
(...and yeah, I'm just as big a goofball over there too)
-
Well, truth be told here, MY preference would be for those posts which I could most easily play off of and interject my nonsensical crap would come up first!
(...I mean I MAY be retired and have far too much free time on my hands now days, but still, somethin' like THAT would sure come in mighty handy around here!)

I'm pretty sure the third pic down is of Greer Garson, and the last pic down there is of Jane Russell, Multi my friend.
-
I hate Casablanca and anything with Woody Allen, Jim Carey and Bette Davis.
Hmmmmm...would that last one include "The Bride came C.O.D.", CB???
(...'cause I KNOW how much you like almost anything and everything a certain little redheaded Irishman was in!)

-
No, misswonderly, not so lame. I'm enlightened now. You were referring to what you were reading, I missed that part. Finance had quoted my entire post and I thought you were referring to that, like it "was greek to you." In other words, an semi-acute attack of insecurity on my part. All is well. In the words of Dana Rosanna Dana..."Never mind." Carry on!

Oh GOODIE!!! Now it's MY turn for a little clarification here!
"Never Mind" was the catchphrase of another of the great Gilda Radner's SNL characters, Emily Litella, the elderly hearing-impaired woman who gave angry and misinformed editorial replies on the "Weekend Update" segments, and not the catchphrase of her character, guest news anchor Roseanna Roseannadanna.

I do not use a quote as often as a gesture. It is to hold my upper arm to my side and my forearm and hand stiffly vertical from elbow to fingertip and with my fingers spread. I hold it so that my thumb is near to touching my shoulder and the side of my hand is pointed towards the person which whom I am speaking. Its meaning is in essence: "our talk has been friendly so far but if you say one more word I may have to kill you for the sake of all that is Holy."
I am sorry to say that I can not remember which movie presented this. I can picture the character doing it but I can not recall that actor's name or nationality. I believe it likely is a movie from Greece or Italy.
Well Sans, considering you said you spread your fingers apart AND that you turn your hand sideways while doing this little gesture, I THINK we can safely rule out the possibility that you started doing this after watching a GERMAN movie made during WWII

(...or as YOU might recall it being referred to: "The Great Patriotic War"!!!)
-
Admittedly, a rather lame attempt at word play.
Could always be WORSE ya know, Edith...err...back to MissW now, eh?!
Uh huh, you COULD have attempted this "word play" to the tune of "Mrs. Robinson"!!!!
(...and EVERYBODY knows that NEVER works!!!)

LOL

Aaaah! And THIS has reminded me of one I occasionally use to deflect blame away from me...
"This is ANOTHER fine mess you've gotten us into!"
-
Yeah...well...HERE'S what's drivin' ME crazy around here lately....
I can't for the life o' me seem to get rid of this darn Peter Rugolo-composed earworm which I hear in my head ever single time I see Richard Kimble's permanent little tagline graphic down there!!!!!
(...anybody got a cure for THAT???!!!)
LOL

-
Aah! I finally thought of one..."The English Patient".
Yeah, I know the critics loved it and that it won the Best Movie Oscar that year. However, I have yet to meet anyone who actually admits to liking it, but I really got into it and found it mesmerizing.
-
Well Edith, how about every time those people down in Atlanta do this to ya up there, you just pop that little DVD of "49th Parallel" in the machine and watch THAT instead?!
(...'cause I don't know about YOU, but I can't get enough of that ending scene in this flick where good ol' Canadian Raymond Massey beats the ever lovin' crap out'a that Nazi Eric Portman inside that boxcar!!!)

-
Could the role of Waldo originally have been intended for Fox contract player Laird Cregar?
Yeah, maybe RK. Sounds logical.
(...AND seein' as how Raymond Burr wasn't that big yet, both literally AND figuratively, back in '44!!!)
-
Zardoz (1974) is a foreign movie. It was filmed in Ireland.
Oh suuuuure! NOW you get "specific" here, lady!!!

-
Another movie I can't stand is TITANIC. To me A NIGHT TO REMEMBER is the true Titanic movie and that 90s thing is a 5-hour fan fiction.
Yeah, but ya gotta admit little Leo is SOOOOO cute in it, doncha Lonesome???!!!
(...I kid here of course, but he might actually have saved the thing from being a total waste of time)
-
IMHO SITR does not work at all. I've seen few films that were so totally misjudged.
However, very near the end, there is a brief, unexpected scene involving Gleason's character -- or more precisely, his office -- while McQueen and Bill watch, that has stayed with me ever since I first saw it. I always mention it in "Great Moment In Bad Movies" threads, and it's probably my favorite moment in any Ralph Nelson film.
Yeah RK, I always thought McQueen did a TERRIBLE job of impersonating an early Earl Holliman in that peacetime service flick, TOO!!!

(...but yeah, it DOES have its moments)
-
Very interesting thoughts and rationales presented by you here, Sans!
(...however, I would've bet almost ANYTHING you would have mentioned "Zardoz" SOMEWHERE in all of that!!!)

LOL

All y'all Canadians that need TCM's fine filmage can just pack it up and move on down here to Florida where we've got plenty of room for Moose Heads. Here is a typical 1 bedroom, outdoor garden bathtub slum dog special you can have for just 6 easy payments of..

OR, you could always move to the American Southwest...

...and where we don't need to close-in our swimming pools like that in order to keep all the freakin' mosquitoes and other assorted blood-sucking insects at bay while lounging outside!
(...and don't EVEN get me started about all that humidity there in the Southeast EITHER!!!!)

Ahhh.. "the old Hot Topics thread.. ah yess.."
Well, I looked at each topic back to January 2014 and could not find it. I've tried using the new Search feature, but it does not like me at all. I haven't been able to find anything with that. I've even used it to search for words and phrases in recent posts I know exist, but results still come back showing every thread on the board except what I am looking for.
Lookalikes may be lost for good.. <sniff>
Thanks for tryin' anyway, Kid. Guess we'll have to start another one.
(...it seems the search function at most websites leaves a bit to be desired...at least I've found that to be the case, anyway)

Movie Swan Song
in General Discussions
Posted
Well, here was always MY favorite "Swan Song" in the movies...
(...sorry TB, couldn't resist...again...yeah, I seem to be apologizin' for this kinda thing a whole lot lately, huh!)
