This is a quote from Maggie Smith.
Who said, "Now I know what it feels like to be the bridesmaid and never the bride"?

You got it! Being a fan of Tony Curtis, I discovered this film over the summer and had a good laugh when the women end up in the vat of wine. I've never seen anyone look so good as Janet Leigh in a bedsheet before! The chemistry between Tony Curtis and wife Janet Leigh is also unmistakable.
Your thread, mudskipper ...

Don Ameche was in *Old Chicago (1937)* with Sidney Blackmer.

Clue #3: Sex-starved male soldiers live vicariously through one of their own--the Don Juan of the base.

Yep, I figured that line would do it. It's an interesting segue into the film itself.
Over to you now ...

No, but a good thought.
Clue #2: The film shifts to sub-zero Arctic conditions.

Bingo! Your thread now, lavenderblue.

Hello there, cujas. Wasn't this line spoken by Robert Mitchum in *Out of the Past*? You're right, this is classic film noir!

Hi, guys. This looks like fun ... can I try?
Clue #1: US military personnel opening sequence

*Next line:* They were a peaceful tribe--setting traps, fishing, hunting--and there was a custom among them: every July, when the heat of the humidity on the island became unbearable, they would send their wives and children away for the summer, up the river to the cooler highlands or, if they could afford it, to the seashore.

Is it Ossie Davis and Andrew Beattie? If I am correct, what is the connection?
-
Hi, Miles. Thanks for inviting me to play the game! I believe the correct answer is Mabel Normand and Fatty Arbuckle in *Mabel and Fatty's Married Life (1915). I've never seen any of the Fatty Arbuckle films so will have to try to catch them some time. Are they ever shown on TCM?
Here's my first try ...

Just discovered this old thread, but thought I'd get it rolling ...
Finally watched the 1993 version of *Much Ado About Nothing* with Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson which was lots of fun and then watched a favourite, *The Seven Year Itch.* While they are both romantic comedies, the time gap jumped at me--from Shakespearean language and costume to Marilyn's sexy dresses, including the famous white dress blowing above the subway grating that proved to be the final straw in her marriage with Joe DiMaggio. Much Ado is about family coming together and a large gathering of people vs. Seven Year Itch has Richard Sherman sending his family away for the summer to cool off. Oh, the variety of films we have to enjoy!
