Tall, dark and regal, her placid loveliness and dignified patrician features bode her well in Hollywood during the late 30s and 40s. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1901, the stage-established actress didn't arrive in Hollywood until age 34 (then considered too late for leading lady roles!) but managed to settle fairly comfortably on the supporting sidelines in chic melodrama and tearjerkers.
