Not among the "best" color films, but below is a link to a Kodak Kodachrome Film Test, 1922.

Thanks, I am honored. I don't want to run out of Stanwyck pictures, but I'm happy to post to both as the mood strikes.

Carole and what's-his-name (just joking folks, and I mean really! :x )
-
In celebration of the color restoration of *Nothing Sacred* (what took ya so long, people!), here is a color shot of Carole.
-
*The Lady Eve* uses a train shot for comedic, symbolic effect (the train roars as it enters a tunnel).

*Take that Barbara Stanwyck * You're just lucky I like Lombard, mister! :^0 :^0

This is wonderful! I've bookmarked it.

*She was famous for maneuvering to be photographed and filmed almost exclusively from the left* She and Claudette Colbert had that in common (though I'm not sure which side Colbert preferred for herself).
-
In movies like *The More the Merrier* and others, she almost seemed to have a kind of 'inner light'... (I've erased this term and retyped it, thinking, "how hokey!" - but I can't think of any other way to describe it.) She was charming. She definitely had a charismatic "something". I'm sorry Jean suffered so much inside - she seemed to be in torment a lot, again from what I read in that book I mentioned earlier.
-
From what I've read of her, she was labeled a "problem" in that she had an at-times crippling shyness/self-doubt where the director(s) would have to plead with her to do a scene and reassure her that she was fine. She also shunned the spotlight and hated doing things like publicity pictures, etc. I don't know the exact event that led to her retirement, but maybe she felt the stress wasn't worth it? Interesting that she still chose to act in light of this, that she didn't choose a more low-key career and lifestyle (but lucky for us). There is a book on her called, "Jean Arthur: The Actress Nobody Knew" that I enjoyed reading.

Slayton, *The Adventures of Robin Hood* was what immediately came to my mind also. That is one movie I wish I could see on a big theater screen, with surround sound. I'd probably think I was "transported". Musing further, the DVD of *Nothing Sacred* is almost its polar opposite in terms of color quality and saturation. I know it is to be re-released on Kino (or maybe it's already out there), but I wonder how much better the color will come out. I'm not remembering if Kino puts out good-quality DVDs. I really liked "Old Acquaintance" too, partially because I knew that Hopkins and Davis hated each other, so the neck-wringing scene was also funny to me (update): I thought also of Davis kicking Crawford in Baby Jane. Funny how Davis was paid big bucks to take out her "revenge" on people she didn't like - maybe she considered it a dream job! :^0 Edited by: EugeniaH on Nov 13, 2011 5:17 PM

Rickey, thanks so much for posting that! Looove Jean Arthur! The lady deserves her own thread. I don't have a favorite - in that, I can't pick one from many. I can say at least that the last movie of hers I saw was Easy Living (I own it).

*They live on it.* I can understand that... But I live here, so I don't have time to live on Facebook. :^0

Hey Bette - here's another Skeffington pic. I'm bored so I thought I'd bump your thread up. Otherwise you'd be finding it on page 12 by the time you get back from your trip!
-
I didn't even want to take that much trouble...
-
I'm not on Facebook. My friend has to give me her account password so I can see her pictures.
-
Hope you are having a nice time, Bette! I don't want to "take over the thread for the weekend", but referring to your post below here is a shot from *Mr. Skeffington*:

*Well, Harlow had the better bod.* I don't know, I always thought Harlow was a bit on the chubby side...

Maybe he was known as "Joe" for short. -

Sorry, I stand corrected - though this information is so interesting that I'm glad I made the error! -

Irene Dun / Dunn / Done Carol Lombard (which was the original spelling, anyway) -

*Bustier Crab?* That sort of reminds me that whenever I see the name of the actor Nils Asther, in my mind I call him, "Nils Asthma".
