TopBilled, I love Spencer Tracy, too.

I'm just jumping on... Dargo, did you say where your screen name came from? Curious!

Last but not least, a color shot:

Here ya go, BD19...
-
Yes - King Kong and Mighty Joe Young! Me, too! And the "insect" pictures - Them!, etc. Bette, I apologize: sometime tonight or this weekend I'll post some BD pictures here to make up for the fact that I'm derailing this thread... Bette Davis should be honored here!

What a great story, Swithin! And growing up on Long Island, I am very acquainted with Channel 9 and the Million Dollar Movie! I watched a lot of Godzilla movies on that channel. I also saw a lot of Abbott and Costello on Channel 11 on Sunday afternoons when I did my last-minute homework. The only thing I remember about my grandmother's love of movies is that she loved Jimmy Durante because he was, she said, "the underdog". My grandmother was from England (as was all of my mother's side of the family).

That's cool - do you talk about movies with them, and do they mention watching them on the "silver screen" back when they were current? I remember my mother telling me that Gene Tierney was the love of my father's life. Interesting in that my mother was dark-haired with blue eyes. (Not wanting to derail Bette's thread on Bette - it will come back to her, I'm sure!)

Ugaarte, if the other Eugenia and Ugarte ever decided to come back here and start posting, we could end up with one crazy, mixed up message board. :^0

Interesting - when old movies were talked about in my house (often), my mother used to say a lot, "I can't stand Bette Davis!" I never asked her to elaborate but I knew she had really strong feelings about her. With my love of old movies now, I often wish that my mother (born in 1929) and father (born in 1928) were still alive for me to talk about actors and films with them. They would have had such a great perspective. Like your mom, my mom also liked Stanwyck, but back then I couldn't have cared less. Edited by: EugeniaH on Oct 14, 2011 1:28 PM

The Definitive Nervous Breakdown Performance!
EugeniaH replied to allaboutlana's topic in General Discussions
For mental breakdowns, I would say Olivia DeHavilland in *The Snake Pit*. Wonderful movie. -
In *The Lady Eve*, Jean Harrington is introducing herself and her father to Charles Pike, saying, "...my name is Jean Harrington; it's really Eugenia..." I wanted just "Eugenia" but that name was taken, so I added the extra H (for Harrington, of course). *The Lady Eve* is what got me hooked on classic movies wholesale, so there's that element, too.

*If only she'd stuck to the 20th century, she might have given Stanwyck a run for her money.* She may have, but I respectfully disagree only by my opinion that I think Stanwyck was more versatile as an actress. In the comedy genre, there is *The Lady Eve* and *Ball of Fire* compared to *The Bride Came C.O.D.* Also, Stanwyck was an accomplished dancer and there were scenes in *Lady of Burlesque* that perhaps Davis couldn't do (mrroberts had pointed that out once, and maybe it's true). Conversely, just to prove I'm open minded , I would never want to see Stanwyck replace Davis in *All About Eve*. Davis owned that movie.

I remember that video... hilariou's.

Plan a Dinner Party: Invite 20 Cinema Guests

:^0 :^0 I don't think I'll be crashing your dinner party, Monty... -
*"Burn's poems"* Ah, but it would be Burns's poems, right? Speaking of Robert Burns? Anyway, I digress. I believe we were talking about the stink bug earlier in this thread. Make the stink extinct? Or preserve the cute little critter? These are the pressing issues at hand...

How about: lay down, lie down, lain down, laid down... We can go on with this stuff for weeks!

Somehow mixing up "its" and "it's" is more forgivable to me, but Fred's post above yours reminds me that, in my neighborhood, there is a sign hanging in the front yard of a house that says, "The Johnson's". I always think, "The Johnson's what?" ; And even then it should be, "The Johnsons'".
-
*(...and dude, don't EVEN get me started on how many people misuse the word "your" when they ACTUALLY meant to use the word "you're"!)* That bothers me too, but what I really hate is when people put apostrophes in pluralized words: e.g. "apostrophe's". Once I was at a deli and I actually saw written on the menu, "french frie's".

Just to clarify, though - I haven't sat down with a bowl of batter ( :^0 ) but when I was younger I used to eat big spoonfuls of it. Anyway, moving on...
-
That reminds me of the other Lucy movie, *The Long, Long Trailer*, where Lucy falls out the door of the jacked up and tilted trailer into the mud in the pouring rain. Desi wakes up suddenly, sees her, and comments, "Couldn't you sleep?"

You're right. I'm just so shallow.

Above both of these for me is raw brownie batter. A chocolate lover's heaven.
