Welcome to the boards, 'classicfan'! I hope you enjoy your time here. For me it's hard to pick my favorite classic movie - it really depends on what day of the week it is... But Gable is one of my all-time favorite actors and I agree that he was handsome.
My favorite actress is Barbara Stanwyck. Which other movies/actors/actresses do you like? -
*Nobody said Forrest Tucker. Legend has it, he had a quite a package...*
So did Milton Berle, I hear tell, but I still wouldn't want to date 'im.

I've mentioned Lancaster so many times, but what the hell, here it is again. I'd love to see him doing some of those acrobatic tricks of his.

Wow, mongo, I couldn't let that picture of a young Bea Arthur go by without comment. I've never seen a photo of her pre-Maude, so it was quite the surprise to see this in your thread. Thanks!
Burt Mustin is another actor that I only think of in his old age. Once a long time ago I saw a picture of him as a young man, and I was shocked. :^0

Well again, re-stating my point: I do love the piano breaks; I just thought there was one too many in this all-too-short classic tune.

-
Hahaha, I love your story! I wonder what it means? (Maybe I should post the YouTube link to the theme to "The Twilight Zone".
)I'm the last person to qualify as a knowledgeable critic of the Rolling Stones' music, but if I were to arrange the song "She's A Rainbow" in my own way, I would reduce the number of piano breaks and add more lyrics to the song. I do like the piano music, no doubt, but once the lyrics start ("Have you seen her dressed in gold...") you kind of want to keep going with that flow, and rock along. The multiple piano breaks kind of "slow it down"; slow up the rhythm of the song. Well, just an armchair musician's two cents!
P.S. 735 CDs?? I remember your saying you had a big collection, but wow, I am truly impressed!

I've been listening to this track so much this weekend. Just love it:
"She's a Rainbow"

Ben and RO have already taped that annoucement for the June 10 airing.

-
Interesting - no one has yet mentioned Marilyn Monroe in their "most gorgeous" lists.

-
Barbara Stanwyck didn't want to play Phyllis either, initially. Billy Wilder had to "challenge" her to take the part.
I also read that Edward G. Robinson refused his role at first because it was a supporting spot, not a lead.

"Ricky? ...And Fred??"

-
*Did anyone catch Burt in Trapeze over the wknd?? I didnt catch all of it, but, Hubba, Hubba! All 3 leads looked great in tights!*
I did! I turned on TCM for the first time that day and saw him in color, with a towel over his bloody nose. That was gross, but the rest of him... whoo boy.
-
"If I don't get to a bathroom soon I'm going to do it on the garbage cans like the alley dogs!!"
-
I stick by my man Burt as MOST gorgeous, but feel I have to put in a plug for Clark Gable in his early-30s pictures, sans mustache. I finally, FINALLY saw Red Dust recently. Wow...
No matter how many times the subject of "most beautiful" comes up on these boards it always seems to prove a popular thread.

*Its accomplishment is non-stop rapid-fire talking*
That's the one thing about HGF that can grate on me if I'm not in the right mood to watch it, but again, generally I like this film, and the dialogue is funny.

I'd never heard of them, either. I was searching all over the internet to find the title of a certain song and I came across this band. I was intrigued by the Hindu song titles and checked them out. This album was released in 1996 (they broke up, then re-formed later; I don't know if they are still together).
I heard two other songs from them that borrow thier riffs from Jefferson Airplane and "Eleanor Rigby", respectively. But, they also have their own sounds.
I'm used to hearing the "traditional" Hindu chants and love it when they can set prayers to rock music. ]
I know another song like this but no time to post it now... -
For those that like a little Eastern philosophy with their modern rock, here is Kula Shaker with "Tattva":
(Update): I'm just reading on Wikkipedia that the lead singer of Kula Shaker, Crispian Mills, is the son of actress Hayley Mills.

The first couple of times I saw it I didn't think it was so great, but it's grown on me over time.

"It's Black Friday and we're running late! If we don't get to that department store ahead of all the others, they're going to run out of all the Betsy Wetsy dolls!"

-
I like His Girl Friday (even over Bringing Up Baby), but under the general umbrella of comedies there are other films I find better and funnier: The Awful Truth, My Man Godfrey, The Lady Eve, and Libeled Lady come to me off the top of my head. Grant and Russell have great banter between them but I'm more partial to Grant and Dunne.
-
Clark Gable was reluctant to play Rhett Butler in *Gone with the Wind*, feeling that he wouldn't do well in a costume drama, especially after filming *Parnell*, which was a dud.

Not getting anywhere on their own with their tired-old pickup lines, the Stooges decided to try the new "Mars Dating Service" company. They couldn't believe it when they found out the girls really WERE from Mars.
-
Here's what I am currently - literally - listening to. From "Sister Act", a fun movie (I love Whoopi Goldberg), "Just a Touch of Love":

finance, are you familiar with the Twilight Zone episode, "A Thing About Machines"? The main character hates machines, can never understand how they work, abuses them, and in the end they turn on him and exact revenge, LOL.

*(I think REM actually formed in the late 80s, but their hey day was definitely 90s.)*
FYI, REM formed in the early 80s and their first EP was Chronic Town. Murmur, my favorite album from them, was from the early 80s ("Radio Free Europe" is one of their best songs, imo). They had a huge indie following for years, but after they signed with Warner Brothers they really broke into the mainstream.
(Not pickin' on ya, misswonderly, I just love this band and am happy for a chance to talk about their early music. After 1989's Green, for me, I enjoyed them a lot less and eventually stopped listening to their new stuff...)
