So many great answers here. Tom, I definitely agree about *The Public Enemy*. I'd put that film in the top-3.
There was a movie that came to my mind a couple of days ago and I've been wracking my brain trying to think up the title, because I wanted to post about it here. It was a color film, made in the 60s or 70s, and it was about war. In the very powerful ending scene, two men relax on a grassy hill. Very slowly the camera turns their images to two white cross headstone markers... The camera then pulls away and you can see that the huge expanse of field is covered with these grave markers. I wouldn't say it was a "perfect" ending, but it's certainly chilling and memorable.
If someone knows the movie name, can you please tell me/us? Thanks!

For women: Rita Hayworth and Ava Gardner
For men: Burt Lancaster. The one and only.

No worries, George's thread is as resillient as his rear. Once down it bounces back up again, like a raft.

Jean Arthur is in my Top-5 favorite actresses list, but I've never seen this movie. I'm happy to read all the positive comments on it, and really look forward to seeing it. (11pm PST is past my bedtime, but I'll make the sacrifice.

The Glomsky sisters were certainly unusual, but the fellas were thrilled to have dates at all.

Great minds think alike, Scottman.
When I first saw the post with "Jean Shrimpron", the first thing that popped into my mind was the lyric, "She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton..." LOL. I wanted to post the Smithereens link but didn't have time - glad you did. -
Here's an easier way to post YouTube clips (I'm not being condescending, but writing down numbers is silly.
)1. At the same time you have the message board page up, open up another Internet screen and find the song you want on YouTube.
2. At the "http" address, left click on it once so it highlights in blue, then right click. Choose "copy".
3. Go to your message board post, right click again, and choose "paste".
4. And there you have it, Chaka Khan!

*That's about the only thing that could explain Frank's supposed success with the ladies, or else he had one hell of a pickup line.*
Hah... Well, according to the article that was posted here, his own co-stars had their doubts: "It should be mentioned that other cast members expressed some skepticism about his claims. 'I never pictured Frank as being Don Juan,' Ken Osmond told People magazine in 1998."
Maybe poor Frank was traumatized after being cast as Lumpy and re-created himself as an imaginary Lothario.

Yeah, and then when Jerry Mathers showed up on "The New Leave it to Beaver" in the 1980s, he wasn't only not dead but bigger than ever! :0
-
Yes, I remember reading years ago the rumors that Osmond was Alice Cooper, and that Beav was killed in Vietnam.

My favorite Donovan song, "Wear Your Love Like Heaven":
Second favorite, "Happiness Runs":
(I haven't listened to Donovan in a dog's age! ...I was listening to Madonna when I opened this thread - weird to transition to Donovan.

For a truly offbeat comedy (which also happens to be a great movie), I recommend *Harold and Maude* (I don't think I saw it mentioned elsewhere here). It also has a terrific soundtrack, imo.
