"Christmas Time is Here..."

If I were the one saying it, the remark would be in deadly earnest. :x

mongo, I join the chorus and thank you for all the hard work you put into this thread, year after year. I hope you have a great holiday. As I hope I've mentioned, yours was one of my first "go-to" threads long before I ever joined here.

Lol... maybe the aliens can invade only modern Hollywood, and try to make something better out of it. -
Great choices, YvetteJeannine! We share the same #1 favorite. I have my "Christmas" DVDs lined up and ready to go for Tuesday, including the Alistair Sim movie. Have a great holiday and welcome to the boards!

I can see your point of view. I was about 43 at the time...

Yes, I actually watched some of "Mr. Limpet", in a state of semi-disbelief....

I'm glad you bumped this thread back up, VX. I wanted to get in another word on a sexless movie actor - Don Knotts. Okay, he's known primarily for his TV work, but he did act in movies, however bad they were. (Edit: I had forgotten there were two threads with the same title - should have posted in the other one...) Edited by: EugeniaH on Dec 22, 2012 11:37 AM

So I Was Watching This Movie The Other Day...
EugeniaH replied to hlywdkjk's topic in General Discussions
Dragnet is one of those "it's so bad it's good" shows for me. Webb specifically wanted all the characters to speak in a staccato/stiff delivery by reading their lines off of a Teleprompter. Some actors didn't like it, wanting to be more "fluid", but Webb did it his way (I read all this in a book on Dragnet). The earlier version of this show was a lot less "cartoonish", like Sepiatone mentions. I crack up seeing the same roster of actors doing different roles in different episodes, especially the police supervisors. The Honeymooners also used the same (two!) ensemble actors for the "Classic 39" series. -
It's the END of the World! TCM is providing coverage!

*The Life and Times of W. C. Fields by Simon Louvish* I own this one, Janet0312 - I love it! I read it again earlier this year.

December Star of the Month: BARBARA STANWYCK
EugeniaH replied to SueSueApplegate's topic in General Discussions
*Her first line is a classic- as an advice columnist for a big city paper, she suggests to an "other woman" seeking advice about an affair she's having: "forget the man, run off with his wife."* I remember how my mouth nearly dropped open when I first heard that line! :^0 -
December Star of the Month: BARBARA STANWYCK

I didn't think it was 5-star, but I've seen worse from Stanwyck... I think that generally, Stanwyck's chances for better roles kind of dried up in the 1950s -

*HOW did Eddie G. NOT get a supporting nomination for this film???????* Agreed. An abomination! -

*Phyllis Strikes Again! (Good title?)* Hah, I'd like to see a sequel if only it included Stanwyck being able to ditch the wig! But yes, I agree somewhat with Wilder when he said that the wig telegraphed "cheapness". Yes, finance, the movie as it was filmed was terrific. It was great watching this in the movie theater. There was a scene where Phyllis opens the door and sees Neff leaning against the frame casually but somewhat suggestively, and the whole audience cracked up. -

Interesting posts, Jezebelle. If Neff was killed and Phyllis had lived, that would have been a perfect set up for a sequel... -

*Yes, the movie didnt really need it as we knew where he was going, (provided he even survived). Still I'm curious about how long that segment was and how they'd cut to that.......(were there trial scenes etc.)* I don't know any details about that scene, but it still may have been interesting to include it, because of what I saw in the still photo, it was a powerful image of Neff in the gas chamber. -

As I'm sure most people here know, but it's worth mentioning again, there was a scene in *Double Indemnity* that was cut in the final version, showing Walter Neff in the gas chamber. I've seen still photos of it. -

With DI, I assumed she was just using the boyfriend, but it could go either way... I never figured that out either (about Martha Ivers)... I liked the ending of that movie. Edited by: EugeniaH on Dec 20, 2012 6:39 AM
