  1. mongo, I join the chorus and thank you for all the hard work you put into this thread, year after year. I hope you have a great holiday. As I hope I've mentioned, yours was one of my first "go-to" threads long before I ever joined here. :)

  2. I'm glad you bumped this thread back up, VX. I wanted to get in another word on a sexless movie actor - Don Knotts.

Okay, he's known primarily for his TV work, but he did act in movies, however bad they were. ;)

(Edit: I had forgotten there were two threads with the same title - should have posted in the other one...)

  3. Dragnet is one of those "it's so bad it's good" shows for me. Webb specifically wanted all the characters to speak in a staccato/stiff delivery by reading their lines off of a Teleprompter. Some actors didn't like it, wanting to be more "fluid", but Webb did it his way (I read all this in a book on Dragnet). The earlier version of this show was a lot less "cartoonish", like Sepiatone mentions.

I crack up seeing the same roster of actors doing different roles in different episodes, especially the police supervisors. The Honeymooners also used the same (two!) ensemble actors for the "Classic 39" series.

  4. *Phyllis Strikes Again! (Good title?)*

Hah, I'd like to see a sequel if only it included Stanwyck being able to ditch the wig! But yes, I agree somewhat with Wilder when he said that the wig telegraphed "cheapness".

Yes, finance, the movie as it was filmed was terrific.

It was great watching this in the movie theater. There was a scene where Phyllis opens the door and sees Neff leaning against the frame casually but somewhat suggestively, and the whole audience cracked up. :)

  5. *Yes, the movie didnt really need it as we knew where he was going, (provided he even survived). Still I'm curious about how long that segment was and how they'd cut to that.......(were there trial scenes etc.)*

I don't know any details about that scene, but it still may have been interesting to include it, because of what I saw in the still photo, it was a powerful image of Neff in the gas chamber.
