  1. I liked your post, too. Please feel free to contribute more.
  2. Thanks much for your input, darkblue. Okay, I want to know more about him. I'm at work right now but I'll be clicking in your link later today. Stay tuned.
  3. Today's irony: I was just thinking of a song I could post on this thread as I was on another website, and I found this link on the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees: http://news.yahoo.com/vindication-2013-rock-hall-fame-inductees-191700784.html Randy Newman? Really?? Granted, I only know him for "I Love L.A." As for Heart, what took them so long?
  4. (deleted - repeat post. kingrat, you and I had the same thought at the same time about Monroe!) Edited by: EugeniaH on Dec 11, 2012 12:53 PM
  5. *That said, I do love Muni in I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG which is one of my favorite films of all time.* Ditto. It's one of my favorites from the 1930s.
  6. *192* "I just love it when you rub my head like that..."
  7. As Hibi and I discussed elsewhere, what a shame that *The Furies* isn't included in the lineup this month. Now there's a Stanwyck tour-de-force!
  8. I don't think my age is so old (44), but I work at a university and sometimes interacting with college students makes me feel like 104. I don't get their cultural references, and the times I've referred to something from my own childhood, I get the initial look of confusion, followed by the polite smiles...
  9. Just my opinion, of course, but I thought "Annie Oakley" was a little better than the 3 films she made before that, "The Secret Bride", "The Woman in Red" and "Red Salute" (I saw these films once and was bored to tears). I agree on "Executive Suite".
  10. I love that Honeymooners episode, Swithin. Garde was terrific playing off Jackie Gleason. One of my favorite exchanges happens when Norton asks Ralph if Thelma is like the actress (playing a maid) who helped Lily St. Cyr into the bathtub (in film) and Ralph responds, "She looks more like the one who installed the bathtub." Garde was also in an episode of The Twilight Zone ("The Midnight Sun"). Edited by: EugeniaH on Dec 10, 2012 4:55 PM
  11. I like watching Beery and Marie Dressler on screen. They fit really well together.
  12. *191* (Reading): "...After putting arm around date, kiss her by forming lips as in the illustration below."
  13. So many names have been mentioned (and I second a lot of them) that it's hard for me to come up with a new one. I agree with those that said that Ralph Bellamy is sexless (he's not repulsive, but more of a 'kind uncle' or 'best friend' type...)
  14. *But I do understand that this is just my opinion. I just don't think BS is as good as people on this board do. But I love many of her movies and enjoy her performances!* Sounds good to me! You have just as much of a right as anyone else here to say what you think.
  15. *191* "Man, this dame is nuts! Let's see who else I have listed in my little black book here..."
  16. I'm trying to picture Nancy Walker's singing voice... Holy cow.
  17. D'oh! I couldn't remember the year and found the wrong info, dang internet. Thanks!
  18. Also, she won an honorary Oscar in 1978 (just throwing it in there).
  19. *190* "Hey, has this cat been fed? I don't like the way he's lookin' at me!"
  20. *190* "I told the &$##! prop man to get me a TABBY! A TABBY CAT!"
  21. *I was really looking forward to seeing The Other Love. It's a glamorous '40s melodrama. It's one of seven Stanwyck films playing this month I haven't seen yet. I was bummed to find out the film was being replace by My Reputation in Canada. Did anyone watch it? Is it as good as the description sounds?* Though "The Other Love" is a good film, I think "My Reputation" is much better. Better writing, and Stanwyck has a lot more to do in it, more chances for strong emotional expression. The scene where she runs to Ginna Abbott's house and has a meltdown is a highlight (in my opinion). "My Rep" was also a favorite of Barbara's.
  22. *189* "Amazing! That lovely bathing suit! Just where did you buy it?"
  23. Though I thought the ending was a little contrived, and Stanwyck rough around the edges acting-wise, I liked *The Locked Door* better than her follow up movie, *Mexicali Rose* (also 1929). But then came *Ladies of Leisure* and she never looked back. The reviews of "Leisure" at the time were very positive (at least, what I had read...)
