Mine would be "Scrooge" (1951), followed up by "A Charlie Brown Christmas". I own both of these films and look forward to watching them every year.

You're correct, I've been busy at work, but a Stanwyck fan's gotta prioritize.

*That is that whatever movie she was in, no matter how bad it was, and how poorly written her dialogue, she always spoke her lines with absolute conviction. You never doubted her belief in her role and her resolution to communicate that belief to the audience.* I agree here. When I watch her playing different roles, I am fully drawn into each character. I don't think about Stanwyck as herself, as an actress playing a part, I am going along with the lives she is portraying onscreen.

:^0 I nearly get motion sickness trying to watch the "handheld camera" effect. When I watch a movie a second time, after I'm already familiar with the plot, I love to look closely at backdrops and props, what people are wearing, etc. It's much easier to do this with older movies, when you can more or less "relax" more when you watch.

You know you're an OLD film geek when: You can't get through the day without checking this message board at least once, if not posting on it, because "no one else understands you". You look at a news page of some current red carpet event and have no idea who the people are. Plus, everyone seems to look alike and blend together. You can't stand the herky-jerky motions of modern filmmaking and think that more can be said in a five minute still shot of yesteryear than the slam-bang explosions of today's films.

I agree with you, SansFin - If a movie is great, and the actor is great, the viewer is pulled in and he/she is swept up in the character, not the actor portraying the character. For some people, analyzing the actor's personality or private life can take the fun out of watching the performance on screen. I would rather watch Robin Hood for what it is than say, "There's the guy who ran into trouble with those underage girls." Then a movie isn't really a form of "escape". On another note, I'm sure there were many an actor/actress who loved to play roles as a way to escape themselves.

Reading the last three posts, with references to piano solos and Thanksgiving and "achingly beautiful music", it made me think of George Winston - "Thanksgiving": I have a few songs from this album on my iPod.
