So many names have been mentioned (and I second a lot of them) that it's hard for me to come up with a new one. I agree with those that said that Ralph Bellamy is sexless (he's not repulsive, but more of a 'kind uncle' or 'best friend' type...)

Thanks! I think I'll go and take a look.

*But I do understand that this is just my opinion. I just don't think BS is as good as people on this board do. But I love many of her movies and enjoy her performances!*
Sounds good to me! You have just as much of a right as anyone else here to say what you think.

I'm trying to picture Nancy Walker's singing voice... Holy cow.

D'oh! I couldn't remember the year and found the wrong info, dang internet. Thanks!

Also, she won an honorary Oscar in 1978 (just throwing it in there).

*Grand Hotel* was the first movie I saw with Garbo, and unfortunately I felt her acting was a little over the top for me. But I really liked her a lot in *Camille*.

*I was really looking forward to seeing The Other Love. It's a glamorous '40s melodrama. It's one of seven Stanwyck films playing this month I haven't seen yet. I was bummed to find out the film was being replace by My Reputation in Canada. Did anyone watch it? Is it as good as the description sounds?*
Though "The Other Love" is a good film, I think "My Reputation" is much better. Better writing, and Stanwyck has a lot more to do in it, more chances for strong emotional expression. The scene where she runs to Ginna Abbott's house and has a meltdown is a highlight (in my opinion). "My Rep" was also a favorite of Barbara's.

"Amazing! That lovely bathing suit! Just where did you buy it?"

Interesting about the Movies Unlimited fact, mark. I didn't know that. I started getting their classic film catalogs in the mail at some point and wondered how they knew to put me on their list...

Though I thought the ending was a little contrived, and Stanwyck rough around the edges acting-wise, I liked *The Locked Door* better than her follow up movie, *Mexicali Rose* (also 1929). But then came *Ladies of Leisure* and she never looked back.
The reviews of "Leisure" at the time were very positive (at least, what I had read...) -

"It was a fun idea, but I think we look silly arm in arm singing, "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" like in The Wizard of Oz"

Kid_Dabb, thanks for helping us in the pic department!

I love Marie Prevost! A wonderful actress..
Sadly, she had a tragic spiral downward, leading to the end of her life at 38. Here is a Wikipedia link:

*LADIES OF LEISURE was great*
*Ladies of Leisure* is one of my favorite Stanwyck films. When talking about this movie critics usually refer to the "major scene" as the one where Stanwyck stays overnight at Graves' apartment, her misunderstanding his intentions when he walks toward her bed (only to put an extra blanket over her)... I love the buildup (from even before the lights are off), Stanwyck's expressive eyes (she is a master at conveying emotion through her eyes), the cinematography with the rain running down the window... a wonderful piece of filmmaking. This was the movie that really launched Stanwyck's career in Hollywood. Thank goodness for Frank Capra - he was willing to give her a chance even after *The Locked Door* (1929).

*I'd love to see the 8:00PM film starring Stanwyck*
*But I'm afraid I'll be stuck in traffic on the Van Wyck. (That's an expressway in NYC)*
*There---I came up with a good rhymew for Stanwyck*
...The movie casting that should have been: Stanwyck in *Dragonwyck* (1946).

Ain't it the truth! Other people's mistakes are the best teacher(s)! :^0

Okay, Hibi, go ahead and rat me out, LOL! :^0
I put the wrong zip code because I was at work and distracted when I placed the order. Then I was in India when it shipped out and could not correct the problem in time. Lots and lots and lots of hassle with customer service, but everything is okay now. It was my mistake to begin with, and I'm still happy with the store...

Pushing this thread back up. Great to celebrate Walt Disney! A true innovator of American entertainment. Movies, television, comics, theme parks... He was also a major funder of CalArts.
Here's his Wikipedia entry (in case there's someone here who's never heard of him, lol):

I've purchased from them numerous times. I've always been really happy with their service (there was one order that was especially complicated to resolve, but that's the exception to the rule). As for pricing, while I don't say they are exhorbitant, I order from TCM if I can't get the product on amazon.
PS - I really am happy that they pioneer exclusive DVD sets, like the Capra box set, with movies that aren't available for current release elsewhere. Thanks, TCM!

I like Berlin!
Here's "When We Make Love". I apologize in that the lyrics are pretty racy (or maybe I'm just especially prude) but I like the music and Terri Nunn's voice.

I wasn't all that crazy about the movie but I like the Barrymores.
