  1. So many names have been mentioned (and I second a lot of them) that it's hard for me to come up with a new one. I agree with those that said that Ralph Bellamy is sexless (he's not repulsive, but more of a 'kind uncle' or 'best friend' type...)

  2. *I was really looking forward to seeing The Other Love. It's a glamorous '40s melodrama. It's one of seven Stanwyck films playing this month I haven't seen yet. I was bummed to find out the film was being replace by My Reputation in Canada. Did anyone watch it? Is it as good as the description sounds?*

Though "The Other Love" is a good film, I think "My Reputation" is much better. Better writing, and Stanwyck has a lot more to do in it, more chances for strong emotional expression. The scene where she runs to Ginna Abbott's house and has a meltdown is a highlight (in my opinion). "My Rep" was also a favorite of Barbara's.

  3. Though I thought the ending was a little contrived, and Stanwyck rough around the edges acting-wise, I liked *The Locked Door* better than her follow up movie, *Mexicali Rose* (also 1929). But then came *Ladies of Leisure* and she never looked back. ;) The reviews of "Leisure" at the time were very positive (at least, what I had read...)

  4. *LADIES OF LEISURE was great*

*Ladies of Leisure* is one of my favorite Stanwyck films. When talking about this movie critics usually refer to the "major scene" as the one where Stanwyck stays overnight at Graves' apartment, her misunderstanding his intentions when he walks toward her bed (only to put an extra blanket over her)... I love the buildup (from even before the lights are off), Stanwyck's expressive eyes (she is a master at conveying emotion through her eyes), the cinematography with the rain running down the window... a wonderful piece of filmmaking. This was the movie that really launched Stanwyck's career in Hollywood. Thank goodness for Frank Capra - he was willing to give her a chance even after *The Locked Door* (1929).

  5. Okay, Hibi, go ahead and rat me out, LOL! :^0

I put the wrong zip code because I was at work and distracted when I placed the order. Then I was in India when it shipped out and could not correct the problem in time. Lots and lots and lots of hassle with customer service, but everything is okay now. It was my mistake to begin with, and I'm still happy with the store...

  6. I've purchased from them numerous times. I've always been really happy with their service (there was one order that was especially complicated to resolve, but that's the exception to the rule). As for pricing, while I don't say they are exhorbitant, I order from TCM if I can't get the product on amazon.

PS - I really am happy that they pioneer exclusive DVD sets, like the Capra box set, with movies that aren't available for current release elsewhere. Thanks, TCM!
