I didn't see this on TV but I do like this movie.

No, but I wish I had... instead I was reminded that in school we read an excerpt from the story "Black Boy" by Richard Wright, in which he kills a kitten.
Though I'm sure the story has a lot of symbolism, we weren't at an age to understand that and it ended up being pretty awful for us gradeschoolers... -
Exactly... since my thread gave you the idea, SansFin, if you get this theater I claim the front row, middle seat.

On a related note, I would also wish for more movie houses in my neck of the woods to show regular classic movie revivals.

Hey, I like how you think! All of us will be wanting your address so we can bang on your door to be let in.
dpompper, I was trying to find the title of that TV movie you mention, but didn't have any luck...

"Ned, for God's sake, I told you that for this scientific experiment you were to give this larva *10* ccs of steriods, not 10,000!"

If you could have one film-related Christmas gift this year, what would it be? You can include "wishful thinking" items also, like the release/restoration of a lost film, or a remake of an old film with your preferred stars.
Since I'm still waiting for a new DVD release of *City Lights*, that would be my own personal item #1.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
VX, your mention reminded me of all the great Rankin-Bass animated Christmas TV specials in the 1960s: the stop-motion "Rudolph", and the others. Then there was "Frosty the Snowman". Oh how I cried when he melted in the hothouse! :^0

cb2: Sad to say, I never did read this well-known Mars/Venus book, but I think your observations are on-target.

Here's a fun song for a rainy Sunday in the Northwest.
Herman's Hermits, "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat":

Tuning in to the 1957 Emmy Awards, the accomplished thespian Sir Lawrence Fotheringay Phipps discovers he has lost to Nanette Fabray.

Since we're also now moving into TV territory, I'd like to mention that I also love to watch the Christmas episode of "The Honeymooners". It's the perfect mix of humor and a touch of the sentimental. I also love to see that Twilight Zone Christmas episode with Art Carney ("Night of the Meek").
Watching the classic Christmas movies/TV episodes really puts me in the holiday spirit. I have a bunch of things I try to see one after the next if there's time. Then, when I'm sufficiently in the spirit, I go out and buy myself presents.

Speaking of Bonnie Tyler, here's a song I used to like a lot when it came out a looooong time ago.
"It's a Heartache":
(Once I looked for it on iTunes, but at that time I could only find a more recent version by Tyler. Her voice has changed a lot over the years - not for the better, imo. Her vocal chords seem to have been really given a good workout over the years!)

I love that song, db!

My mom used to like this song, lol (though I think it was more that she related to the lyrics):
"I Will Survive":
-
Gloria Gaynor - wow, there's a name you don't hear anymore. Does she make any current records (or is she still alive)? There I am listening to this song on AM radio with my bright plaid pants on.
"Never Can Say Goodbye":
How about this... "gem":

Mine would be "Scrooge" (1951), followed up by "A Charlie Brown Christmas".
I own both of these films and look forward to watching them every year. -
As someone who went to Catholic school, some of those nuns were not to be trifled with.

More dance hits: "Heart of Glass" by Blondie.

*Maybe the magazine proved to be a dud!*
I read it as a typo of "duh".

Hey, no Stanwyck films on December 1. What goes?
(Just joking, of course... Lots of movies I like are playing on Saturday, like "Sullivan's Travels", "Harry and Tonto", "The Long, Long Trailer", "It Happened One Night", etc. etc. etc.) -
I was born in 1968, but for people in my age group the (TV) movie that really scared us was 1983's "The Day After", also about nuclear war. :0
