I apologize if this has already been posted - I tried looking quickly at some of the links.
"Candles in the Rain" (though the 'first' title is "Lay Down"). I love this song:

Hi Swithin,
On this trip I've been to Delhi, Mumbai, now Goa, moving on to Bangalore and then to the south. I work at a university, and I am a co-director of a seminar that takes students all over to learn about businesses and Indian culture.
I used to live in India over a period of 12 years (not continuously). I lived in an Ashram, so I learned much about Vedanta. I also traveled all over during that time so I've seen much of India.

Hey, what great news! It's Christmas at TCM!

My internet connection is terrible here in Goa, India (a remote resort area), but calvinnme I look forward to taking a look at your posted schedule when you get around to it. I'll be back to the U.S. on September 18th, plenty of time before the broadcasts. I won't have TCM, but I have friends that do.

One of the only Stanwyck films I haven't yet seen is VARIETY GIRL. Well, it's not really a "Stanwyck film" - she is one of a group of stars in it. I don't know if they will broadcast this one. Has anyone, by chance, seen it?

Willbefree, I wasn't referring to you at the start of my post. That's why I said "On a completely different note" on the Brent thread.

*The level of vitriol and ugliness around here is a bit high.*
Thanks, Michael, for starting this discussion. I've been really interested in reading the comments.
Without wanting to be too specific, recently I've been increasingly bothered by a certain poster's oft-repeated opinions on the same subject in multiple threads, which on the surface seem like innocent statements, but increasingly (to my mind) seems a lot more like a veiled attack on certain other posters. Of course, since we are mostly strangers to one another I have no way of knowing how this poster really feels and what he/she is saying, and if I'm provoked it's my own problem.
I've been posting here a little over a year now and I think I'm more easily riled by posts and posters than before, and it's made me decide that sometimes I need to take a break and step back, and not get so "emotionally involved". Some posts and threads are obvious attempts to get a strong reaction, but with others you can't really know what that person is thinking. I think increased board moderation is one answer, but we are all ultimately responsible for how we react. We can't really know what the poster is saying, his or her background, etc. We should also have "self-moderation".

On a completely different note, as one of the past contributors to the George Brent thread, I apologize to everyone who might have been offended by my posts. I really meant no harm.

It was another typical family reunion for the Frankenschleimers....

*And I don't know if the TCM offerings in those countries are mainly for tourists to have something to watch on TV in English, or if they are dubbed or subtitled for the non English-speaking countries (understanding that many speak English as a second language)??*
When I saw the Hitchcock movies in India, they didn't have any dubbing or subtitling - they were broadcast in their original format. It could have been programming for the tourists - on the hotel TVs, the other channels I looked at had programs like BBC News, etc.
But, these movies I saw weren't broadcast on TCM. It was another channel (sorry for the digression). If I do see the TCM channel in my travels over there I'll report back here.

Thanks for this info, Fred! Most of my days will be travel, travel, travel, but at night I hope to unwind with old movies in my hotel rooms.

The timing of this thread is terrific, personally speaking. I'm leaving for India next Saturday for 3 weeks. I don't know how much time I'll have to catch any classic movies, but I hope to see at least a few...
They do broadcast old movies in India, even though when I last saw them (I lived there years back) it wasn't on a specific classic movie channel. I used to be able to catch Hitchcock movies on the hotel TVs.

*I just picked up on the fact that the lady is on the outside and looking in.*
Great catch, flashback - I didn't see that!

"Why don't those people pull down the shades when they do that!!"

*I did see "Deception" last night (after it sat in my DVR) and was blown back by the "other side" of Claude Rains!*
I became a fan of Rains after "Deception". I saw "Skeffington" after this, and didn't like it nearly as much. I was irritated by Davis' character, and I like Rains' devious/sharp character in "Deception" more. He really made a great match for Davis. Finance, I loved that scene in the restaurant where he drove Henreid crazy, I agree!

Welcome, Harvey! I'd never heard of this movie, so I looked it up. Here is the imdb link:

*Tyrone Power certainly is not wooden or stilted in Abandon Ship as Alec Holmes...Brave Captain...*
I'd also like to stick up for Power in *Nightmare Alley*. He was great in that. But, I admit he's better in some movies than others.

*WOW, I went through all the posts in this thread and was kind of surprised that GEORGE RAFT didn't top everyone's list.*
Maybe because he's so forgettable, we all forgot about him.

He's not on my 'favorites' list.

Taylor was kind of okay in *Camille*, but Garbo picked up the slack (I'm not a huge Garbo fan, but I thought she was good in this). I didn't like Taylor in *Waterloo Bridge* and *Quo Vadis* (yawn). I've seen others from him but memorable roles don't come to mind.
