I can definitely hear the similarily between the two, Baggar.

Sarah McLachlan and one of her edgier songs (one of my favorites): "Possession":

Agreed, I've only seen **** of this group. I have the chance to tune in tonight, and I'll be taking advantage of it.

*38-42 was my orginal choice if I remember correctly*
Yep, and as soon as I'd read that I was saying, "Ooh, mine too! Mine too!"

-
audrey, you need to expand your parameters from 5 years to 20!! :^0

If I'm on a desert island I would want to see comedies, comedies, comedies. So, I pick 1938-1942:
The Bank Dick
My Little Chickadee
The Philadelphia Story
My Favorite Wife
Midnight
His Girl Friday
The Lady Eve
Sullivan's Travels
Ball of Fire
Room Service
And then when I don't feel like laughing, there is:
The Letter
The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Remember the Night (well, it's really a mix of drama and comedy)
Vigil in the Night
Made for Each Other
In Name Only
Robin Hood
...etc...

The Mystics, 1959:

I remember Manhattan Transfer! I remember seeing one of their videos on the VH-1 music channel... This channel catered to "older folks", as I recall, as an alternative to MTV. They played a lot of Basia, et al.

I don't listen to much doo-****, so I'll educate myself.
The Earls:

The Harptones (I like their sound):

*But I liked "Mary Tyler Moore" better than any of them.*
Funny, I've been re-watching the MTM shows lately. For me, I like the spinoff "Rhoda" better (the first season or two). Mary gets on my nerves after a while. I love the character's humor and, of course, the great Nancy Walker.

*Good Times was totally based on a guy with a catch phrase*
Ginnyfan, I agree, but in the very beginning, maybe the first season or two, GT was a much better show (imo). It revolved around edgy issues. When Jimmie Walker's character "took over the show", it became a joke, and that's why Esther Rolle and John Amos left...

Also, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", lol!
I once saw this band live at a small outdoor concert. It was really cool, though I don't like this song I posted...

I don't believe so, but too bad - sounds like a missed hit for them!
Heartbreak. Heart. Okay, sounds good. Here's "Magic Man":
-
Marla stole scenes on *Jeffersons*, so Jackee stole scenes on *227 *
Karmic payback... ]

-
Lol!! She wasn't as funny in 227. Her co-star Jackie (sp?) Harry was the scene stealer in that one...
-
Hemsley and Sanford were great together in "The Jeffersons". I loved the zingers that Sanford's character would throw to "George". I think Louise Jefferson was a little feistier in "All in the Family", but she still got off some good ones in "Jeffersons".
Oh, and who can forget the maid in that show!! Man, she was a scene stealer! :^0
Update: krieger, I love "Maude"! Did you see her in the AITF episode where Edith gets sick? She was so great in that; no wonder they gave her her own show based on that ep alone.

*I will never forget what the line-up was on Saturday nights on CBS in the 70's. "All in the Family" followed by "One Day at a Time" followed by "Alice" and then "The Jeffersons".*
Yes, OHMSS69, I am very familiar with all of these shows on CBS. I liked "The Jeffersons" but my favorite was/is "All in the Family" (I have the full DVD set).
I read of Hemsley's passing yesterday. RIP. He was a good actor, and certainly stood out in "The Jeffersons". I remember the scene with him dancing on the bed...

Hey, I'm no dude! :^0
You're right, there wasn't enough in the song about flowers and love and heartbreak, all the things we women love to hear.

*The only Styx song I really like is "Blue Collar Man".*
I've never heard "Blue Collar Man":
Admittedly, I like the "sappy" Styx best. "Come Sail Away", "Lady", etc. Dennis DeYoung has a good voice for these...

-
Wow, you really did have a good seat. You were lucky, with a group as famous as these guys...
It's interesting for me to hear about the groups that you like, since you yourself are a musician.

*Faith in the universe is the only refuge we have - that karma is real and just and ultimately redeeming, once we accept that existence is so much more than the corporeal distraction we have so much difficulty dislodging from our focus.*
*Don't worry. Be kind. Have faith. For the kind, all pain is temporary.*
Beautiful words, darkblue. Just lovely.
I don't care if my post is going off-topic. I just couldn't let this go by without comment.
-
Oh, sure! I don't have a problem with it. I just really wanted to post that Styx song, lol.
Here are the Kinks, "Tired of Waiting":
-
*Come Sail Away*. My favorite Styx song and one of my favorites ever:
James, cool story. Did you have a good seat? I haven't been to a concert in a long time...

I'm just watching TCM right now, and Robert Osborne was saying that he got to be on the set of Baby Jane as it was being made. He said he looked at Bette Davis and thought that the movie was going to be "terrible".
But that she and Crawford seemed to be getting along very well. Interesting tidbits...
