Dirk Bogarde starred in Agent 8 3/4 (1964) and Modesty Blaise (1966), while James Coburn did a spoofy spy turn in Our Man Flint (1966) and In Like Flint (1967). I think Bogarde would have been a much better Bond than was George Lazenby, but the pity is that his "proclivities" would never had permitted. He certainly had the looks and suavity though.
