  1. That's a very comprehensive list, Sans. Impressive research. I thank you for it. Sepiatone
  2. Well, it seemed to work! Thanks for your patience, indulgence and humor. Love y'all! Sepiatone
  3. Well, I tried something. Don't know if it helped yet. If it didn't, I'll learn to live with it. Sepiatone
  4. Yep, it's still doing it. Can't be a PC problem, because it's NOT doing it in my other forums. Gotta check something out.
  5. I just came back in to see if it's still doing it.Let you know in a sec...Sepiatone
  6. But my SCREEN NAME should be two spaces BELOW the post. I see it coming in right after the last sentence.Sepiatone
  7. There will be no list. I haven't a clue. But what is the most common FIRST name among all those "classic" actors? I don't include the women due to their roster being peppered with all those "Mynas" and "Greers" and "Tallullahs". Sepiatone
  8. You'll all notice that whatever I posted today shows no evidence of proper spacing, or separation of paragraphs. This is NOT intentional. Those spaces and separations are there when I type in the reply box, but wind up missing when I post them. I don't know if it's a PC thing, or a site problem. I do apologize for the confusing look, though.Sepiatone
  9. Now you're talking apples and oranges. So the couple waded though freezing water for 45 minutes...HEY! Wasn't Kenneth Moore DRENCHED in the same level of freezing water, but STILL managed to wrestle free that collapsable? I never said the newer Titanic wasn't full of holes. Just that the re-enactment of the SHIPWRECK looked more accurate. I'll concede that several facts weren't known until years after "Night" was made, so I'll not make any complaints. Incidentally, the guys in the crow's nest were done watching Jack and what's her name kiss for quite a while before the 'berg made it's appearance. And the crewmember DIDN'T take any bribes, but coldly scowled at the man who proffered one. He later shot himself, which I've heard arguments for and against it actually happening. All in all, I'm in agreement with those here who claim that between the "old" TITANIC" and "NIGHT" that the latter IS the better of the two. And even the newer one.Sepiatone
  10. There was a sketch on the old SCTV in which Eugene Levy played a guy called "Alex Treble" and was hosting one of those college kid brainiac quiz shows. At one point, he asked a question and "contestant" John Candy's buzzer sounded. Levy called on him, and Candy asked "What?" Levy replied, "You buzzed...?" Candy replied, "Not YET, Alex."Friend of yours, Addy?Sepiatone Edited by: Sepiatone on May 31, 2013 2:05 PM
  11. JONNY DEBB'S movies might suck, but JOHNNY DEPP'S movies aren't really all that bad. We ALL know some of our favorite actors have done their share of "stinkeroo" movies, and Depp's no exception. But his turns in "Gilbert Grape", "Donnie Brasco" and the guy in Blow prove he's got the stuff. But for pure remake "suckiness", Steve Martin wins the "Bleh Ribbon".Sepiatone
  12. I'll put myself in jeopardy here and defend aspects of the 1997 movie. I don't see how scenes depicting hundreds of panic stricken passengers scurrying around blindly, re-enactments of people falling overboard or being trapped hopelessly below, or scenes showing people being hit by the falling rear section of the ship as it broke in two( a FACT I don't think was recreated for either movie mentioned here) and the hundreds of frozen corpses left floating in the water after the ship went down can be called "innacurate" or "belittling" of the actual tragedy. If anything, the re-enacting of the sinking is probably more accurate than any other movie concerning this tragedy. I get it. It's a newer movie. People here don't like Cameron. Neither do I...he CAN be quite the jerk. AND the soryline that takes up most of the beginning of it is often treacly...so is the one in the 1953 version. Scenes of men standing stoicly singing "Nearer My God To Thee" insults the intelligence more than anything else. Sepiatone
  13. I can see what you mean, lydecker. O'Brien did a lot of well respected movies that certainly ARE classics. Sure, over time, he failed or refused to adjust his acting style to the changes of acting styles over the years, but so did many others who fare better on TCM when it comes to this sort of thing. Your complaint is valid. Sepiatone
  14. Some very smart people NOT winning on Jeopardy can be due to the following: CATEGORIES...already mentioned, yes. Some I know keep telling me I should try to get on the show. While watching, I'll often shout out the correct answer. But falter greatly when the clues demand quick thinking in Math or Science. Plus, I could never think of those "before and after" solutions fast enough. And speaking of which... THAT DAMNED BUTTON...HOW many times on the show have you seen somebody furiously pushing that blasted controller only to see someone ELSE get called? Knowing the right answer is no guarantee if you can't hit the button fast enough! WRONGLY STATED REPLIES...A lot of people thought of the REPLY fast enough, only to lose out because they forgot to say, "What is" or "Who is". Trivia is NOT a waste of time, nor "useless". I think collecting butterflies or other dead bugs is useless. But many people do so, and trivia could be categorized as such in the "hobby" files of daily existence. A healthy hopper full of useless knowledge seems to get one pretty far here in these forums, which my wife would deem "useless". What can I say? She likes different movies, music and TV fare than I do. But I don't love her any less. Sepiatone
  15. Don't be too quick to conclude, Top. My wife and I have a close friend who is clearly "Webb-like" in his mannerisms. This could be due to the fact that, if he made a movie, it could be called, *Cheaper "Bi" The Dozen* . Sepiatone
  16. If you're trying to get me to QUIT watching TCM, you're on the right track, Jake! Either way, it doesn't mean it's neccessarily a good idea... Sepiatone
  17. I saw a skit on SNL that, though intended probably just for laughs, drove this point home most profoundly( to ME, anyway). Jon Lovitz was the owner of a store doing one of those self promoting TV ads, and announced his store having a BIG "Martin Luther King Day WHITE SALE!" I smile to myself imagining many in commerce who still wonder what was so funny about that. Sepiatone PS: Tom, Very good post.
  18. Oh, DANG! I came in here to state that MY marine band is NO shorter than any OTHER harmonica... Sepiatone
  19. That's true. Peters worked with MANY notables over the years, that ANYONE of them might have been mentioned. Many people, even "dyed-in-the-wool" movie buffs, might get the times of death mixed up over time. I myself might have guessed Charlton Heston, who died five years after Peck. But Peters did a couple of movies with Chuck, too. Sepiatone
  20. Sometimes I like my ham with a little mayo. VIRGINIA MAYO, that is! Like how STEVE COCHRAN does those "shady" type guys in *The Best Years of Our Lives* and *White Heat* . Not "over the top" mind you, but hammy nonetheless. Often, hams come from comedy. RED SKELTON and DANNY KAYE were hams, and I mean that in a GOOD way! So were CHARLEY CHASE and BOB HOPE. And Hope, God bless 'im, never denied it! As to the ladies, I'd have to go along with Crawford and Davis. Man, the two of them in the same movie produced more ham than a PIG BREEDER could provide! Sepiatone
  21. First, I'd like to thank slayton for pointing out the *Pale Rider/Shane* similarities. Everyone I know would look at me funny when I'd mention it. My wife has had it with me yelling "SHANE!" when the girl starts yelling "PREACHER!" at the end! I'd also like to remind whoever that "RIDER" is NOT an early Eastwood effort. Not by a long shot. I can't disagree that many of Eastwood's westerns are rehashings of some of his earlier works. Or to put it another way, they follow the same formula. But that's true of westerns in general...they're formulaic. It's the FORMULA the western fan loves. How it's used comes second. Departing from familiar formula as *Unforgiven* does, I have to agree with James about Little Bill. In real life he WOULD have been shot down early in life. Unless, as was subtly inferred, he was handy enough with a gun to make it near impossible. But the idea was for the audience to HATE Bill, and Hackman certainly achieved that. Sepiatone
  22. Hey, Lay OFF, willya? I mean, if MY name was "ORISON WHIPPLE", I might have a few issues myself! Sepiatone
  23. Oddly enough Dargo( and this is TRUE!), I recall a Memorial day "cookout" a neighbor had where he offered steaks of Kobe beef and coolers full of BECK'S and CORONA beer! Sepiatone
  24. But skim, it's true! As most people living in the communist soviet Union WEREN'T communists, most nazi soldiers didn't give a rat's bum about Nazism. But they WERE soldiers and "patriots" to their country. As were the sailors. They too, had a loyalty to their country, in spite of whatever the government policies were; left mothers, wives and children behind in order to defend it, just like US. Oh, I'm sure there might have been a respectable number who thought Hitler was the "bee's knees", but overall, I'd say that the largest number of them were just doing their jobs, like most of the G.I.'s were doing. Sepiatone
  25. You helped drive the fact home that it wasn't only the soldiers and sailors that made sacrifices for this country. For that, I thank you, ginny. Sadly, these days and for the last couple of decades or so, these "holidays" meanings got lost in the belief that the best way to "honor" those who gave their lives, or suffered the loss of loved ones through service, is to barbecue meat and go boating and water skiing, and drink gallons of beer. Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day makes no difference. All America seems to only think of days off from work and the party. Sepiatone
