    Sorry I missed that one.

As I've previously stated, I prefer Joan's earlier work, and mentioned two in another thread( *I Live My Life* and *Love On The Run* ). The only post 1940 movie she made that I can stomach ( that I've SEEN, anyway) is *Mildred Pierce* .

I'll have to jot down that title and keep an eye out for it's return.

  2. Whether done as homage or comic relief, I don't mind movie referrences too much. Brooks would either lampoon a certain director or an entire genre, not to razz them, but out of genuine affection towards either( *High Anxiety* is one example, *Young Frankenstein* the other).

There's a scene in an old BOB HOPE movie, *The Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell* , where hope is making out on a beach with GINA LOLLABRIGIDA, I think, when a wave washes over them. Lola helps pull a sputtering Hope out of the surf as he complains, "Boy! When BURT LANCASTER does this, it's romantic! When I do it, I nearly DROWN!"

You tend to chuckle at the referrence, forgetting that the HOPE movie takes place DURING WWII, and the beach scene with Lancaster was filmed nearly a decade AFTER that war!

As for Tarrantino, there's a movie he made( with a title I keep forgetting) with Josh Brolin and Rose McGowan that was filmed so cheaply and edited so poorly that it LOOKS like any of those cheezy sci-fi "horror" flicks from the early '70's, which were probably the types of films he saw when growing up, and he decided to pay tribute.

Sometimes that sort of thing can be fun.

I have one brother-in-law( a 40 watt bulb in a 100 watt world) who uses the word "Chocolate" WAY too much as a referrence.

Returning to the guys at work, one of them and I tried compiling a list of slang words or slurs used by whites to describe blacks, and those used by blacks to describe whites. Both lists were surprisingly long and almost equally matched in number. And we were both surprised to hear ones we've never heard before!

Decorating with classic movie posters and such is one thing. MY idea once was to outfit the livingroom in the same decor USED in those classic films. Chintz chairs and sofa, Art Deco furniture( coffee and side tables), retro look floor lamp, candlestick phone...the whole MAGILLA. My WIFE'S reaction, however, was to voice a willingness to sign commitment papers.

I think we have a WINNER here, as "What's the idea?" can be heard in many other movies besides THREE STOOGES shorts.

Plus, I never knew WALTER BRENNAN was ever in one of those!

A dumb one used a lot in the '80's and '90's : "I'm your WORST NIGHTMARE!"

I also heard some try it in real life. One time, during my ex's and my turbulent divorce proceedings, she showed up with a change in legal representation. At the courthouse, I pointed to the new counselor and asked, "Who are YOU?" She replied, "I'm your WORST NIGHTMARE!"

Not being able to resist, I answered, "I THOUGHT that face looked familiar!"

Another little known fact, Dargo, is that his most famous play was originally supposed to be *Romeo and Julius* ! And, of course, would have taken place in Greece. ;)

But alas! His advisors warned that the world wasn't ready for that sort of play, despite the fact that male actors also took on female roles.

It also put the kaibosh on his other planned play, *The Flaming of The Shrew* .

I know these were on a few days ago, but I'm just now getting around to mentioning them:

*The Gene Krupa Story, Love On The Run, I Live My Life*

Bear in mind that believe it or not, i've never seen any of these before...

OK, first, "Love"..."A high society girl flees her wedding and runs off with a newspaper reporter played by Clark Gable" Hmmm...seems I've seen a movie like that BEFORE! Even though it took place in Europe, had the "spy ring" plot twist, and Reginald Owen looking much like PARLEY BAER, I liked it OK nonetheless. But the OTHER one with Claudette was better.

"LIFE"...I would have taken a hairbrush to Crawford's cute bottom LOOOONNNG before a walk down the aisle! AND it gave me a new "favorite line" in a movie; "32 descendants, and all of them WOMEN. Though some of them wear TROUSERS."

Finally..."KRUPA"...Over the years, I've always only managed to see the last 20 minutes of this movie. THIS time, I only missed the first 10. But as someone who's seen miles of film footage of the real Krupa playing his drums, I have to say that Mineo got it DOWN. All the facial quirks, his hunched over playing style, extended arms and all. And though I know it wasn't Mineo actually PLAYING the drums, he did an outstanding job of FAKING it! You had to look and listen real close to distinguish the fact.

Sorry to bore you all with such static fare, but I just wanted to get it off my chest. Thanks for the patience

I think in the case of "GREEN HAIR", the cast listing was done that way because at the time, the three adults had much more experience and name familiarity than the then child actor Stockwell. Even now, mention O'Brien or Ryan, and most will know who you're talking about. Mention Stockwell, and the same will go, "Who?".

I suppose it started with me as a kid watching what I then thought were "old" movies on "Million Dollar Movie" from CKLW-TV out of Windsor Ont. Also much of the fare on Bill Kennedy's old show.

In later years, having a friend who belonged to the BLACKHAWK FILM SOCIETY helped kick it up a notch or two.

Addy, THAT was my face while watching anything on SNL since 1986!

Top, look up above...the page reads GENERAL discussions!

I DO remember when Carson's replacement was as big a topic as "Who shot JR." I was pulling for Leno because I always liked him better as a comic than Letterman. Not that I don't LIKE Dave, but prefer Jay a bit more. I cringe whenever I think that Joan Rivers was once considered. She's a funny comedienne, but has become too acrid over the years to be an affable hostess.

Conan is also funny...but his off the wall humor didn't seem to fit into what long time "TONIGHT" viewers expect. And while those long time viewers accept changes in who hosts the show, they prefer it if the VIBE stays intact.

DEAN STOCKWELL is *The Boy With Green Hair* . I never got the "war" message, but it seems more fitting as a story about tolerance.

The saddest part of the movie is how they conclude to settle the "problem". Good movie nonetheless.

Fly's right. And *Pocahantas* would have been hired as a maid, Marlin would have ignored ALL of Dorey's suggestions and *The Lion King* would have taken place in a ZOO!

ALL with music by MARVIN HAMLISH, because Elton John is gay, and Phil Collins used to do ROCK MUSIC. And we KNOW what kind of people THEY are!
