That's all nice and everything, but I believe the young man was inquiring as to whether or not there were any SC FANS of classic movies in these forums.

This all suddenly reminds me of how some people will see what they want to see despite the intent just to tell a story.
When I was in the 8th grade, in 1964, one of my history teachers, an obvious ultra right winger, said he HATED the *Titanic* movie(the Webb/Stanwyck version) because it had the underlying "message" that it was corporate greed in the form of not supplying enough lifeboats and charging full steam ahead over concerns of passenger safety that for him spelled a Hollywood liberal smear against capitalism.
I gave it no more thought until the 1997 version came out, and I overheard someone in a doghnut shop make the same complaint. THAT struck me as odd. The guy making the complaint looked too young to have had the same history teacher.
And now you say Goebbles saw a representation of the destruction and fall of the Third Reich as an undercurrent? Could it have been that GOEBBLES saw the end starting and THAT influenced his thoughts on the movie?
Curious...

Considering what many people do while reading the paper in the bathroom, Eddie being in the tub isn't really that disturbing.
UNLESS eh was...ahem...MULTI TASKING! (Ewww!)

JACK LEMMON from *The Odd Couple* :

When you consider all the off-camera drama and backbiting legends surrounding that movie, it IS kinda funny to think about. It would be even funnier if somehow Joan arranged for that wig to be used by Bette without Bette's knowledge.

Seen this movie dozens of times and never caught this until last night...
Now, I don't own a boat, so I don't know what certain parts of a boat are correctly named, so be patient.
Towards the end of the movie, when Bogart is driving the SANTANA to Cuba with Eddie G and his gang, Bogey manages to dump one thug off the end of the boat, shoot two others. He then climbs onto the roof of the craft and opens a sort of sunroof type thing. While Eddie is yelling to him from below, there are two camera angles of Bogey on the roof. One from below looking up at him, and another angle from above him looking down.
At one point, while the camera is pointed up at Bogey, he's holding his gun in his right hand. In another shot, from above, he's got the gun in his LEFT hand! THEN it goes back to the below shot with the gun back in his RIGHT hand.
Anybody else ever catch this?

Either Kelsey Grammar or Betty White.

What I hate about threads like this is they make me feel put on the spot. When I consciously try to think of any I blank out. Or I might think of one while forgetting 100 others. But I'll give a try:
BOGART in *Key Largo* "Im Frank. From John, out of Helen".
ORSON WELLES in *The Long Hot Summer* after Joanne Woodward makes referrences to the boys hiding in the bushes making catcalls to LEE REMICK and Welles says boys have been doing that for years, accuses Welles. She says, "I'll bet you stayed the latest and yelled the loudest." Welles dips his head and with that somber face says, "Your MAMA listened!"
And of course, RAY BOLGER as the scarecrow: "Some people without brains do an AWFUL lot of talking, don't they?"
No worries. Once I sign off and go about other business, another 15-20 quotes will come to mind.

At age 61, and having watched old movies on TV since I was about five and ever since then on various mediums over the ensuing 56 years I can safely say I saw MANY more "classic" movies than I ever came to own on either tape or disc. Way too many to fully remember, and far too many to mention even if I COULD.

At first glance, this looks like Angie Dickinson.

Anti British? not in the least.
Anti Reggae? Definitley.
When this music started getting "pushed" by most Brit performers, it was a period of time I usually WAS in some "altered state". Didn't help.

It's refreshing, Obrien, to find you here. I know too many who are older than you who feel any movie made more than five years ago is too old to bother with. Hope to hear from you a lot, and don't feel any question is too "stupid". the fine folks here are eager and willing to, in a non-judgemental way, to help.

Quite possibly James, the Detours didn't HAVE any original songs. Most bands start out playing covers of popular songs in order to get gigs at local clubs and dances and such. Many of them, such as my area's DETROIT HEAT during the late '60's became very famous around here for just that. Once they changed their name to FRIGID PINK and tried some original material, they quickly faded. Could be, as you said, nobody in the band had a good knack for songwriting.
As far as Marley goes, I just never "got it". Reggae music never caught my ear, so to speak. Just like it didn't catch on with many in my area. Coincidentally, it was The Who that came into Detroit's Cobo Arena with Bob Tosh opening for them, and the rock oriented Who crowd booed him off the stage! But the Brits were VERY big on it, with way too many British rock bands constantly trying to ram that nonsense down our throats.

I'm in full support of ANYONE, for whatever reason, who wants to repair, restore and preserve classic films in any format. That too many films have been lost due to neglect, corrosion and other deterioration is just to frustrating to bear. Some might look at these old "moving pictures" as simply a product of of yet another American corporation. I happen to see them as a large part of our CULTURE.

Seems as if *The Player* , *Get Shorty* , and *The Big Picture* all came from the same blender!
The way I see it, F.C., is that if you bump off the screenwriters, you'll be in hot water. Not only with the COPS, but with the UNION, too. Nah, just spice it up a bit. Have some starlet open her up her blouse. You know...some RAZZLE DAZZLE! Throw in a few laughs...have Skelton or Keaton walk into a wall or something. You're a HOLLYWOOD MOGUL! You KNOW how to give the audience what YOU think they want!

That does seem kinda silly. AND misleading. I'd personally like to see the intro "cards" come back. It would be nice to know just HOW the following movie fits into the "31 Days of Oscar" theme.
Maybe they could do another KIND of Oscar thing. 31 days of movies with actors named "Oscar" in the cast. Or CHARACTERS named Oscar.
Or 31 days of movies where the cast wears clothes created by Oscar De Laurenta.
Or 31 days of "Odd Couple" TV episodes featuring the exploits of Oscar Madison...
I'd also like to see a feature where TCM shows a collection of Bergman films...INGMAR Bergman, that is. *Wild Strawberries* , *Smiles of a Summer Night* , *Winter Light* and *The Seventh Seal* can fill in for those nights that *North By Northwest* or *Vertigo* might be shown.
And to AddisonDeWitless: In referrence to your "C-rated Golden Corral" comment, I have to quote Jack Nicholson from *A Few Good Men* ; "Is there another kind?"

John Mayall, on his "Blues From Laurel Canyon " LP(1969) does a song titled "Walking On Sunset".
Well, Topbilled, seems that in spite of it's *importance* , this thread STILL managed to wander off into "off topic chit chat".

I would like to thank Arturo for ANY of his contributions. They're informative and insightful. And he offers any information without any dismissiveness or arrogance, if he's intending to correct.
While my post here may NOT be as well authored or as important as anything by my predecessor, I thought it needed to be stated anyway.
