...or did Eddie say "narrow" ...?
I think it was "squinty" but I couldn't find any info(clip or other) to confirm that.

Y'know, JEOPARDY is facing the same problem TCM recently faced. A show (or network in this case too) has a well loved and respected host for so long that when they're gone( for whatever reason) it's difficult to find an easily accepted replacement. People in these forums are STILL niggling over what new host or hostess they like better or hate with a passion and still wish Robert was still with us. And SHANK doesn't want to see a celebrity take the reins at Jeopardy. I get that. It's like DREW CAREY taking over THE PRICE IS RIGHT after BOB BARKER retired. The show's doing well enough with him at the helm, but sure, it's not really the same. I like Drew as a comedian and entertainer, but he does lack the charisma Barker had.
But even if they choose a replacement for Alex that had hosted game shows in the past, I'd be OK with it.
As long as it isn't CHUCK WOOLERY!

WILLIAM POWELL is always a pleasure. First film I thought of.
I love THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER mainly for STELLA STEVENS.
Yeah. Too bad she wasn't on the TV show. And was glad she didn't have "squinty eyes".

Y'know, I don't do too bad answering along with the show. But not that great either. My wife once asked why don't I try to get on the show, and I told her, "Would be just my luck that if I did, most of the categories would be math and science, and most of the science clues would involve the periodic table!"

Levar Burton feels the show would somehow "benefit" with a permanent African-American host. But I don't think any permanent host should be chosen based on that sort of criteria. But that doesn't mean I oppose any permanent host that might be African-American.
The past champions idea appeals to me as well.
And who is this BRAD to whom you refer?
And I'd never consider hosting that show. I haven't the chops and I'd get bored having to say "alliterative" as many times as they use that word on the show.

True portrayals are no doubt few and far between. But movies do still fall back on "flaming" stereotypes. But not only on LGBT movie characters, but also stereotypes of African-American, Latino and Asian-American characters too.

Having been a cat owner for many years, and one who also bred cats, I can honestly say that a sharp stick in the eye is more fun than bathing a cat. And less PAINFUL!

How do you feel about Joe Namath's commercials? I hate them.
Y'know, coming across it first without seeing the beginning, I first thought it was MAURY POVICH! I couldn't understand it. I thought his show was still doing well.
And now JIMMY "JJ" WALKER is doing one for the same product.
LAVENDER: I can understand probably needing the money, but after such a celebrated career I think those stars deserve to be seen more respectable.

And some sadly, kept plugging away and wound up plugging mundane everyday products, like the great ANN MILLER here.

So, I DID notice him before! But, given how short and distant his appearance was I never realized it was him.

2. He’s a very very nice man, but Mr. Halloran must be an *awful* cook to use all that canned food.
Having read the King novel before, it's IMHO that Kubrick's flick is an absolute waste of time and money. But I'm intending to address the abridged quote up there....
Having had two Uncles that owned a restaurant and at which my Mother sometimes worked at to help and pick up a few bucks in, and where I've spent a lot of time hanging around in, and not to mention the five different restaurants I've worked in over the years, I can say you might(or not) be surprised at just HOW MUCH of the food they serve comes out of cans!

OK, so "little help!" please.......
I've been able to spot all of Hitchcock's "cameos" except in THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY. So, where the hell DOES he show up in that one?

My paper used to carry a comic strip called "Curtis" which covered the adventures of an African-American kid, and often featured his favorite pastime of watching the ladies come down the aisle of his church and laugh at the hats they'd wear. It was the only reason he liked going to church.
And indeed, this legendary icon probably never wore THIS hat to church!
Likely the only other man made object, after the Great Wall of China, that can bee seen from outer space!

It's a great song. The video is cheezy as heck, but most music videos from that time were shlock.
You once alluded to how I like to argue. But I gotta say-----
No argument HERE about that!
My daughter recently complained, "Mtv has really changed. They don't really show many, if any music videos anymore." So I replied;
"So they changed for the better. What's the complaint?"

8 Ball Bunny (1950) One of the best Bugs cartoons. He tries to help a lost little penguin find his way home. Many classic scenes such as Bug's line "OOOH, I'M DY-INNNNG". He also sings a calypso song. Best of all, there is a running joke of an animated Humphrey Bogart (in his Treasure Of The Sierra Madre role) asking for Bugs to help out a "fellow American who's down on his luck"
I recall, long ago when first seeing this one, that I didn't get the gag about FRED C. DOBBS showing up in the cartoon. But, that was way before I ever saw THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE.

Me too. I have four eight panel caps(AKA: "Newsboy") , one dating back 30 years. And three different designs of Fedoras. And a couple of flat caps. But in NO WAY, do I own, or will EVER own one of those BASEBALL style caps you see way too much of. And with the bill pointing in every possible direction!

Great scene! I'm trying to think of iconic women's hats from films but nothing is coming to mind...
I like how Keaton quickly discards and dismisses his "signature" pork pie.

'79's CALIFORNIA DREAMING wasn't too bad. A DENNIS CHRISTOPHER flick released a few months before his breakthrough hit BREAKING AWAY.

Which brings up this favorite(of many) scene of mine in STEAMBOAT BILL Jr.
So, TB, it's men's AND women's hats fair game here, huh? Now I'll have to pay more attention to women's hats in classic movies.
I think we covered men's hats before in these boards, haven't we?

Nipkow's ideal movie would have scantily clad women who speak in monosyllables, a reference to Shirley Booth's character in HOT SPELL and a special cameo from Donald Trump.
Right Nip?
So long as those scantily clad women are 50 feet tall!

And come to think of it, Alex Trebek was a Canadian celebrity of sorts when HE took over the show.
