  1. HOWDY wouldbestar,.. I watched the interviews and they were excellent. It is a shame that Bob Fuller wasn't a BIGGER star in Westerns but I guess he came along to late. I would like to see westernsontheweb.com have an episode of Joel McCrea' ...."WICHITA TOWN" on their Site. It's amazing to me that the series lasted only one season and I know that N.B.C. gave it a bad time slot....but Joel McCrea was a REALLY BIG star at that time and N.B.C. should have moved the show to a better time....in my opinion. See you on the crooked trail. All the Best! lanetemple
  2. HOWDY wouldbestar! First of all, I want to thank you for giving us saddle-bums... westernsontheweb.com. It is a VERY good Site and Bob Terry is excellent. I have not seen the interviews YET but I will and I will get back to you and jaw. P.S....."RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY" is one of the GREAT Westerns in my opinion. I am not a fan of Sam Peckinpah but I REALLY like that film. See you on the crooked trail. All the Best! lanetemple
  3. HOWDY fredbaetz, You tell Ms Molly that she has nothing to worry her purdy red face about....besides, Lane Temple didn't come here to do brain surgery. YO! All the Best! lanetemple
  4. I understand wouldbestar,....but I guess I don't understand how things work here and I have only posted about 20 posts here. For example, if I post YOU; I wouldn't expect someone like Ms Molly to answer for ME. I understand the POST OFFICE will go out of business soon. lol All the Best! lanetemple
  5. Well HOWDY wouldbestar, I have a question to ask you...didn't you address your post about Army Archerd, and lanetemple to me? yes?....then howcome Ms Molly Osborne answered it for ME....SIGH!....JEEZES! Yes, Army Archerd appeared in the episode but in those days Army had his REAL hair. Thanks for liking my alter ego. Ya know, Duke Wayne was John Smith's mentor. As U probably know, the Duke used the stance or "pose" of Michelangelo's ..."DAVID" or Donatello's "DAVID" in most of his Westerns. A few actors who did alot of Westerns tried to employ that "stance" or pose but it was only Stuart Whitman, Richard Boone, sometimes Ward Bond, and John Smith who could do the pose in the proper manner. Please send ME a post anytime U like and I'll answer it....and I'll take care of people like Ms Molly...you bet! All the Best! Ah!....the THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  6. Thank ya very kindly for your help, Lzcutter. Your directions were EXCELLENT! Holy Cow!....I see that you have made 11,511 posts in 7 years here. That's alot of posts or finger-prints and if I had the power I would give you some type of an AWARD. Thanks again....and ALL the BEST! lanetemple
  7. HOWDY Everyone, and all the ships at sea, This is only my 19th post here so I'm very virginal and the way the word "virgin" has been dumb-down in the last 21 years I could be considered a virgin. Anyway, it seems to me that alot of the members on this Western Site have done sooo many posts that they have more finger-prints or posts than a Time Square street walker. Anyway, that being said, I hope someone on this Western Site will help me out with a question about the Site. For example, if I wanted to find out if a certain Western film had been discussed her how would I find that out?....For example, if I wanted to know if the Western picture called...."THE RIDE BACK" with Anthony Quinn and William Conrad had been discussed here how would I find out? What button, etc, would I have to press to get the solid information.....Thank you very kindly for any help you can provide me. NOTE: to stevenslynnc....I saw your post regarding Thomas Youger/ Alex Young and I would to help you out. However, and I don't mean to be nosey, but about what age are you? Can't your parents help with more details regarding your Grandfather? Any cousins, etc. Are you familar with the expression...."There's something rotten in Denmark" ? All the Best! Ah!....The THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  8. Thank you very kindly fredbaetz for explaining the situation. I did see "BLAZING SADDLES" 3 times but in my opinion the film doesn't wear well. Either does "CAT BALLOU". Thanks again. lanetemple
  9. Thank you very kindly fredbaetz for telling me that Mrs Rogers' first name was "Bond" in the novel also. I viewed ..."THE 7TH CAVALRY" years ago. I thought the script was WEAK but Scott was good. Also, Jeanette Nolan was EXCELLENT in her part. As you probably know, Joseph H. Lewis directed it and I always felt that he was interesting because some of his set-ups were very good and very different for an oater. Question?....How come your wrote..(."chorus please") between Randolph and Scott? All the Best! lanetemple
  10. HOWDY..fredbaetz, Thank you for telling me about.."THE LAST SHOOTIST", I was not aware of a possible sequel coming out and if it happens then I will read it. I did NOT read ..."THE SHOOTIST";.... in the novel was Mrs Rogers' FIRST name Bond ? YES!....I DID read Alan Le May' "THE SEARCHES" years ago and I know that the ending of the book was different from the film. By the way, I consider the film a true western GEM. Ah!....the THRILL of it ALL!....and all the best! lanetemple
  11. Good Eve'in wouldbestar, YES!...my "pen name" is lanetemple (Lane Temple) named after the character John Smith portrayed in Cimarron City, and as I think you know, George Montgomery played the lead in that series. I don't have to correct you because you are correct, I'm a die hard Western fan and I have seen ..."THE LAST STAGECOACH WEST" twice. lol. God bless Joseph Kane!!!! Yes, we disagree on the casting of Lauren Bacall for "THE SHOOTIST" and that's fine and healthy but I somehow get the feeling that U would have liked to be a fly on the wall when Don Siegal and the producer were talking about who ahould play Mrs Rogers. Anyway, I think we will agree alot....so I will see you on the crooked trail. All the Best! lanetemple P.S. ...."THE LAST STAGECOACH WEST" is a dreadful Western. lol
  12. HOWDY...wouldbestar, In your initial post you mentioned the word "nostalgia" and I agree with the context of your meaning. However, there is a scene in ..."THE SHOOTIST"...it's the scene when Books(Duke) is about to take Mrs Rogers on a buggy ride and he says..." Mrs Rogers, I never asked you what your first name is" and she(Lauren) responds..."Bond" and Books replies..."Bond! that's a cracker- jack good name for a woman". In my opinion, Lauren Bacall should have given more giddy-up to the line when she said..."Bond". She lacked "passion" when she said the line. As you probably know, Duke and Ward Bond were close friends and their friendship dated back to the 1920's and college and when they met the great John Ford. You mentioned Hank Worden and Ben Johnson....their photos are on a different wall in my crib. The reason I have the 2 Chuck' in my foyer is because the day after John Ford died Chuck Hayward and Cliff Lyons and the Stuntman's Association put a full- page ad in the Hollywood Reporter in memory of Mr Ford....the ad simply said..."You were one of US....and we'll MISS you"....and later Chuck Roberson, talking about Pappy, said.."He'll be AT the LEAST the second- unit director at the Second Coming" Pappy would have LOVED those two sentiments. If my ex-wife visits again and says something interesting then I'll post it here. ...lol By the way, I saw your other post to me and I will respond later....thanks! All the Best!....Ah!....THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  13. HOWDY.. fredbaetz, Don't get me wrong, I thought Lauren Bacall gave a "nice" performance but I wouldn't have cast her in the role. I couldn't imagine her(her character) living in a western town at the beginning of the last Century. I always felt that Ms Bacall was tooooo much upper West or upper East side of Manhattan, New York, to portray that character of Mrs Rogers. Duke and she worked well together in BLOOD ALLEY.....but that film was NOT a western. By the way, my ex-wife, the little darl'in , was just starting up her car when I opened my front door and said...." Vera Miles would have been EXCELLENT in that role too!!!!!!!! P.S. Lauren Bacall did not do westerns...directors knew she was "not right" for the American frontier . lanetemple
  14. Last week my ex-wife came over to my house for a cup of tea and she also wanted to know if I had changed my mind on the casting of Lauren Bacall as Mrs Rogers in the western picture called..."THE SHOOTIST". I told her that I had not changed my mind and if I was in-charge of casting that role in 1975-1976 I would offer the role of Mrs Rogers to several actress' before I'd offer it to Lauren. I told her the names of many actress' who I would offer the role to first, for example, Maureen O'Hara, Patrica Neal, Geraldine Page, Joanne Dru, Joan O'Brien, etc, etc,....even Marie Windsor. Anyway, my ex-wife, the little darl'in, got angry when I said the names and she CHARGED out of my house and she slammed the front door sooooo hard that my framed photos of Chuck Hayward, Willis Bouchey and Chuck Roberson fell off the wall in the foyer. Who would U have offered that role to? Lauren Bacall? or some other fine actress? All the Best! Ah!....THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  15. HOWDY Fred C. Dobbs, First of all, I like your name. Secondly, you asked a very good question and I will answer it. If I get my art CONCEPT painted one of the provisions will be that I title the art work and write a VERY brief caption on it I would pay about $1,500--$ 2, 000 to get that done and I would give ALL the rights to the artist after the art work is done. However, the artist has to be the right person and ideally he or she should have worked in a few Westerns. Thanks for your interest. All the Best! Ah!.....the THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  16. HOWDY ericwells, At least you had the common courtesy to repond to my Thread and you're welcome and I hope this Site will be a pleasant experience for you. By the way, I have been following up on the person who could do my WESTERN PAINTING. Ideally it should be done by actor Rod Taylor and he's an EXCELLENT artist. Also Buck Taylor does some wonderful Western art Also, Bob Boze Bell knows what a canvas is for. All the Best! Ah!......the THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  17. Well howdy MissGoddess...and all the ships at sea, The following are my all-time favorite Westerns: # 1---GUNSMOKE....it was created on radio by John Meston and in 1955, he, along with Nornman Macdonnell and Charles Marquis Warren took it to Television. Mr Meston was a really good writer and Burt Kennedy once said...."John Meston could write in his sleep". Mr Meston wrote for the television show for about 11 years and he scripts still stand the test of time. It really boogles my mind as to why John Meston is not in Televisions Hall of Fame. He belongs there. # 2--Wagon Train.....the great Ward Bond with purty good scripts even though Robert Horton was as stiff as a board. The great John Ford, with his Stock Company, directed an episode of the series called ...The Colter Graven Story. # 3--Rawhide....again Charles Marquis Warren. The first 7 years were really good when Eric Fleming was the trail boss. Many of the episodes were excellent including ....THE INCIDENT OF THE SHAMBING MAN where Victor McLaglen portrayed a former prize-fighter and the episode was directed by Vic's son, Andy McLaglen #4--Have Gun-Will Travel....Richard Boone was wonderful in it and it was very literate. #5 Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater....Luke Short was the inital brains behind it...and there were many good stories about the olde west. All the Best! Ah !.....The THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  18. Howdy cigarjoe, I find the "list" of 100 Westerns a kind of interesting because I find that some of the Westerns on the list don't belong on the list. Anyway, please excuse my butting in here but I would like to add another film to the list. The film is called...RIDE THE MAN DOWN and it was adapted from a Luke Short novel and the very talented Mary Mc Call, Jr, wrote the screenplay. It was directed by old-timer, Joseph Kane and the smart money people on the Western genre always considered he and Jesse Hibbs to be the best directors on grade "B" Westerns. Anyway, the movie is VERY WELL done. All the Best!.....and you don't have to respond to my post but I had to get that out off my gut. Ah!.....The THRILL of it ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lanetemple
  19. TO: ALL. No HELP around here a'tall....thanks for NOTHING.......jeez. All the Best! Ah!....the THRILL of it ALL!!!! lanetemple

  23. No Sir,....my nickname is not Will Sonnet but I know who he is. Ah!.....the THRILL of it ALL!!!!!! lanetemple
  24. Howdy is that you john, I am responding to your post because I think you have a keen sense of humor. Anyway, let me introduce my self ....I am the man who is the only EXPERT on the Western Film Genre in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, the city of Boston and the city of Portland, Maine and that's no brag; just FACT. By the way, Portland, Maine was the birthplace of the wonderful John Ford. Anyway, if you like, I can put your question under my microscope and crunch the numbers. However, first I have to ask you the following questions: 1....How much of the film did you watch?...2...If you had to take a guess would you say the film was made in the 1920's ?....1930's...40's? 1950's? 1960's, 70's. etc, etc? 3...Do you recall if the picture was in color or black/ white? 4...Without looking him up, would you know who was the late Jesse Hibbs? 5...The woman who sung the song....was she a blond? redhead? or something else? 6....Did she wear a red garter appox. 2 inches above her RIGHT knee? 7....If there was a leading man in the picture could you describe him?....and did he have 1 or 2 guns in his holster? Those questions may be differcult for you but TRY to answer them honestly. All the Best!!! Ah!,,,,The TRILL of it ALL!!!!! lanetemple
  25. Good Eve'in Everybody!!! Please forgive my butting in here but I can see that there are several members here who have considerable knowledge of the WESTERN genre so maybe one or a few members can HELP me. I am looking for someone, an artist or a old time actor, who would do my painting. The image involves something that happened on a "Western movie set" when the cameras were NOT rolling. Thank you for any help. Ah!.....the THRILL of it ALL!!!! lanetemple
