  1. Welcome, SunAndMoon, many wonderful movies await your discovery.
  2. I'm glad you're back in some form and things worked out.
  3. Some sequels are OK; some, not so much. GODFATHER 2 is a great sequel. So is BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. I like the THIN MAN series. I never could get into all the ROCKY movies even though I liked the first one. I like the idea of TCM running some sequels back-to-back like they did today with VILLAGE/CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED. They also did that with CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON a while back. I read somewhere on the web there is talk (nothing more yet as far as I know) of a LETHAL WEAPON 5 with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Does anyone really want to see these two old codgers running around trying to catch criminals? Not me and I'm close to their ages.
  4. I think people are going to like Pretty Poison and I recommend it if you haven't seen it. I saw it several years ago so I plan to see it again. It didn't get a lot of buzz when it was first released but has become sort of a cult classic since then. I love David Cronenberg's early horror and The Brood is pretty good. I do wish TCM would run his mind-blowing They Came From Within, one of the best and most original horrors from that era. There's a TCM promo for a restored The Old Dark House on Tuesday. I've only seen a grainy print of this James Whale classic so I am really looking forward to seeing a good print. Excellent cast.
  5. Everybody wins with the Warwick Rowers. Who wouldn't want a calendar of scantilly clad handsome men in support of a good cause? I can see the NBA or baseball doing this in America but not so sure about the NFL (yet).
  6. I don't think you should pick and choose when it comes to human rights. You are either for equal rights and fair treatment for everybody or you're not. Back when I was in college, the women's movement was just gaining some steam and student reps would vote on which campus groups would get school funding for their group. Those of us in support of our women's group voted for the Black Student Union to get funding but they would not support our fledgling group which I thought was hypocritical (no gay activists at my small Midwestern college back then). So, yes, black athlete activists should support gay rights and it's sad nobody feels safe coming out in pro sports until their career is over. This will change eventually but progress is slow and the political climate at the top is not friendly to gays, trans, females, minorities or non-humans. If Aaron Rodgers is gay and if he came out, it would be the just about the greatest thing in sports ever! It needs to be someone whose awesome athletic skills are beyond question - a Jackie Robinson, if you will, and not some marginal player or bench warmer.
  7. It's getting better. Now at the top instead of saying "sign on" all the time even though I may be signed on, it has my name and avatar. But, please, shrink the emojis and I'd still like the option of most recent posts listed first but I can go with the way it is if that's what the majority of people want.
  8. I like the newest posts listed firsts. Can't we have an option?
  9. It took me a while to get in and I notified TCM but it looks like I'm signed in now. Not too thrilled with the huge emojis. Sometimes new isn't better.
  10. We had the horror/SF boon in the 1950s when the Cold War was going strong and the popularity of Val Lewton flicks and revival of Universal monsters during WW2. I don't have stats on more recent events but it would be interesting. As for teens and young adults, I guess that explains my female arousal and maybe that's why I've loved horror and why my dates were eager to take me to see horror films.
  11. Everybody says THE SNOWMAN is awful including the director.
  12. TopBilled, I was being a little sarcastic when I said Prince Rainier would have loved another movie with Grace and Cary. Grace had romances with several of her co-stars including Cary, I believe, so the Prince may have nixed any pairing there but it's fun to speculate.
  13. calvinnme, David Skal is enthusiastic about horror and has written several books on the subject.
  14. I think Marnie would be an unlikely comeback vehicle for a princess - a movie about a "frigid" woman who steals? I could see Grace in a role like Audrey Hepburn played in Charade; she's the co-lead but she's not a crazy criminal. Wouldn't it have been fun to see Grace Kelly and Cary Grant together again? I bet Prince Ranier would have loved that.
  15. Some observations on TopBilled's actresses marrying into nobility. Grace Kelly may have been happy with Prince Ranier but she was never allowed to make any more films. Geraldine Fitzgerald walking behind her husband in your photo - just plain sad. These women get the fancy title but the marriages don't seem to have been all that wonderful. It seems like they have to subvert the vibrant personalities they present on the screen once they become royalty. Any examples of Hollywood men marrying into royalty? What were those marriages like?
  16. Looks like a good month. It's been a while since I've seen the precode gem that tops most all precode gems (except for maybe some of Barbara Stanwyck's precodes): Safe in Hell. Truly must-see. Wow! Getting current with Into the Wild. The book and the movie made me cry. Look for a great supporting Oscar nominated performance by Hal Holbrook. True crime night looks good as does King Vidor's Hallelujah. Even though I think I've seen just about all of Ernst Lubitsch's films at least once, they're so good and worthy of repeat viewings.
  17. Horror always seems to do well when the real world stinks. That plus its enduring appeal to the movie-going teen/young adult market.
  18. Yes, exactly, she's playing a Virginian Southern belle.
  19. Short and sweet - just like her performance in BAD & BEAUTIFUL.
  20. WILL & GRACE has already been renewed for next year.
  21. Yes, Gloria's screen time is rather limited in BAD & BEAUTIFUL. Even though she was a young woman, do you think it might have been considered sort of a career award because she had so many good supporting appearances in films up to that point? I think that was around the same time she did SUDDEN FEAR and before that IN A LONELY PLACE and CROSSFIRE a few years before that. Sometimes in these supporting Oscar nominations, they are almost cameos appearances rather than true support. Sometimes they're co-lead performances. In the "should have won" department - yes, Jean Hagen probably should have won. It was a true supporting performance and she was great in that role. Gloria may have had more friends in the industry.
  22. There you go stereotyping everyone again
  23. I enjoyed WILL & GRACE. I haven't seen the updated version. The show got into gimmick guest casting too much the last couple of years, in my opinion. Re Eric with the Playboy mag: maybe he read it for the articles? Now, if he had held up a Penthouse, I'd be convinced of his heterosexuality. LOL. For real, though, it was kinda lame for him to do that.
  24. I HATE her hair in that movie. That great, wavy long red hair - gone. Shame on you, Orson Welles.
