  1. Well ginnyfan, from what I heard Crawford was aware of how much of a "ladies man" Duarante was and she didn't want to get hurt again, so she went for Garfield. A lot of Crawford fans LOVE this film, and she does look very beautiful in it, but I have no sympthy for her character at all. This is not one of my favorite Garfield performances, but he "brings it home" like he always does in whatever film his is in. People also comment on the chemistry between the two, and while there is good chemistry between the two, it to me does not come close to the chemistry he had with Lana Turner, in the TPART. The music in the film is just beautiful, and my favorite looks very handsome in it, at least that is what I think. Lori
  2. Thanks Izcutter for the info. If no one else steps forward knowing the answer I will PM Markfp. I appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction. Lori
  3. Relaxing moment for Crawford and Garfield. She is knitting something? Guess there were no other chairs available, so Crawford had to share chairs with Garfield. Just posting this photo as a reminder that Humoresque will be aired tomorrow September 1st at 12 midnight EST if anyone cares besides me. Lori
  4. I have maybe a stupid question but, If TCM is selling certain films on DVD and Blu-ray, do they also have those films in their "library" and then do they have the airing rights to show those films? Thank you Lori3
  5. I am not watching TCM at all today. This programing today with James Caan is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen TCM do. It makes no sense to me. Who decided this? Lori
  6. My gosh, look how great Marsh Hunt looks, and how old is she, like 92 or so? I am going double check the administration team of The Film Noir Foundation, and check to see if she is still an active member. I am betting that she is. I liked Gene Kelly's widow when she was on with RO talking about Gene Kelly and his movies. I am glad he had someone to care for him in his old age, and through his stroke. Thanks for the photo ginnyfan. Lori
  7. Another great picture. I am pretty sure this is from Cover Girl, 1944, the alter ego dance. One of the hardest ones Kelly said he ever did. It least that is what I remember reading. Lori
  8. Great picture ValeskaSuratt. I'll take my coffee with a little bit of Kelly please. Thanks Lori
  9. The Max Bloom Cafe Noir with the special screening of The Postman Always Rings Twice was a great success. The number of people who added their names to the petition was a record number occurring on one date. (25) Names are still coming in as people have till tomorrow to get their name on the petition to be eligable for the prizes! I still need names so you will see the link to the petition coming up every once in a while. I will most probably start a new thread as we get closer to John Garfield's Tribute on September 19th. The petition can stay active on the site until October 26th, then I will have to send the petition off to the "powers that be." The 1946 version of TPART most be popular with the seniors of this country becasue another "Senior Center" will be screening the film. From The Florham Park Eagle. 40's Classic Film Noir will be screened the Friday at the senior matinee in Florham Park , New Jersey. The Senior Center’s popular Friday matinee series continues at 12:30 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 31 with “The Postman Always Rings Twice.” The original 1946 steamer featuring Lana Turner and John Garfield as the pair that murder her husband – and live with the consequences. The screening takes place in the Senior Center, located on Longley Lane in the borough’s Ridgedale Avenue municipal complex. Here is the link to my petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/778/073/466/give-star-recognition-back-to-a-legendary-star/ Please if you haven't added your name to this petition please consider doing now. It just takes a minute and if you don't want your name to appear you can click a button and all that will appear is "Name Not Displayed' and the state where you live. Thank you Lori Edited by: Lori3 on Aug 30, 2012 1:39 PM
  10. Yes, we are planning to visit JG's final resting place next year. All of the ladies with husband's like me are leaving our husbands to play golf some where. Our husbands just tolerate this JG stuff. That's ok, we only want "true" JG fans that day. We actually have a few more men in our fan club than ladies, so I am not sure if the men will be bringing their spouses. I think you should plan something on or around he birthday. Go to the beach and you all should bring one of her favorite dishes, which if I remember correctly is cottage cheese. I guess since JG was Jewish we are suppose to bring a stone to place at his site, which shows that someone was there. If his box-set is out by then, I am already planning to leave, at these the outer box of the film set at his headstone, with a note but not sure what I am going to write yet. I am looking forward to her film coming up soon, right? Lori Lori
  11. Thank you for the info, I will definitely use it. I love that picture you posted of Ginny. She was the cutest, natural little girl. No I can't say no to her. Listen I will cast some votes for Ginny if you cast some votes toward my favorite. March 4, 2013 will be the 100th anniversary of his birth. I think TCM should do something for him too. Thanks Lori You probably seen this photo before, but I thought it was cute too!
  12. Thanks Tom for the compliment. I just don't know which of the men "behind the camera" is the director, Jean Negulesco, do you? Thanks Lori
  13. Thanks Tom for posting another interesting story about Flynn, and some great photos. That is really too bad what happened to Flynn and Cabot's friendship. I think Flynn was nice to try and include his friend Cabot in the film. The only film I can think that I have seen Cabot in is KIng Kong! Thanks Lori
  14. Yes, I can. James Cagney is the second "girl" from the left, standing. That is a hysterical picture. What year was that taken, do you know? Great, thanks for sharing. Lori
  15. Yeah, ginnyfan let me know what you think of that link for "child actors." I am not sure either why Hayworth would be billed before Weidler. Maybe Ginny didn't have a good agent, or Rita had a better one. Maybe it like that old saying, age before beauty! I am looking forward to viewing the film. I have always enjoyed Warren William, and Ida Lupino is one of my favorites, and one can always depend on Ginny giving her best. She really was a very talented child actress and I am sure her talent would have just grown as she grew. Oh, well I guess it wasn't meant to be. The film certainly has it share of talent. Oh, and I like Rita too. Thanks Lori
  16. Behind the scenes photo of Humoresque, 1946. Joan Crawford said in a British TV interview, done around the late sixties that, "Johnny was one of the most exciting young actors I have ever worked with, except Gable." Interview is on YouTube.
  17. More great photos Tom, of Cooper. Here I am getting your thread back on track. Now, i don't know about you, but I wouldn't expect to see these two "stars" together. 1946, Joan Crawford and Jimmy Durante. Tom, if you tell me they dated for awhile I am going to fall off my couch laughing. Thanks, Lori
  18. Oh I am sorry, I don't mean to start anything. I didn't even think of using the search button. I have been on these boards for about a year now, and I never saw a discussion regarding John Wayne and his military service or lack of service. Any ways, thank you for being this fact to my attention, jamesjazzguitar, again I am sorry. Lori
  19. Tom, nice photo too you just posted. Were Crawford and Fairbanks Jr. married? I memory or brain is going, sorry. To answer, your question, the only other movie where Garfield played a parent was in "Under My Skin" 1950. His wife was dead in the film so he was a singe parent. You are right the photo of Garfield and his daughter doesn't really belong here, but I just had to post, it because you can see the "raw emotion" in his face. SORRY. Any ways, I am still shocked that John Wayne wasn't in the service during WWII. I mean I still like Wayne and I thought he was a good actor, very good in some of his films e.g. The Searchers, but it is such strange to me, that he represents the all American guy, and he didn't serve his country. It doesn't sound like he had a medical condition that prevent him serving. Lori
  20. Reminder: Max Bloom's Cafe Noir. August 28, 2012 at 7:30pm *Movie Night! Tonights Feature is "The Postman Always Rings Twice" 1946, Spotlighting The John Garfield Challenge, sign the petition and enter the drawing at Cafe Noir. Todays Special is The Bacon and Cheese Quesadilla for $3.50 & Italian Soda for $2.95!* *WOW. Great deals on food and drink, and chance to wins some prizes, and you get to watch a great Film Noir film. I am hoping that Max Bloom's place is sold out for the night.* Here is the link to the Cafe Noir: http://www.maxbloomscafenoir.com/index.html Here is the link to my petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/778/073/466/give-star-recognition-back-to-a-legendary-star/ Yesterday, 11 people added their names to support this petition. That is a record number for one day. I think maybe all my tweets, posting on other websites, YouTube and Facebook is paying off. Plus, I have had wonderful support and help from DeeDee, over at Film Noir Lives Here. She has been a "Jewel" and is working very hard to help me reach my goal for the petition. If you like Film Noir, I would highly recommend you check out the website "Film Noir Lives Here" Thanks Lori
  21. Ray Boldger, Dancer. Mitzi Mayfair, Musical comedy dancer. Louis Polanski, (L to R center) Stan Laurel, Comedian. Jane Pickens, singer. Benay Venute, radio songstress, in the rear John Garfield, screen player who will act as master of ceremonies L-- and Oliver Hardy film comedian. Camp Shows, Inc. affiliated of U.S.O. is sponsoring th trip. Stars leaving to entertain troops. Don't think you would normally think to see these stars together. John Garfield hugging daughter Katherine at airport, after being overseas entertaining troops for a month. Even the "stars" who couldn't serve in the military for medical reasons, they could still serve their country in other ways, and make sacrfices, e.g. being away from their little girl. Sorry, I posted this photo just because I found it by accident and I think it is so precious. Tragically Garfield would lose his little girl in 1945. She died after having a full blown "allergic reaction" she was only 6 years old. Lori Edited by: Lori3 on Aug 28, 2012 1:39 PM
  22. WHAT? Tom, you are kidding? I can't believe that. (I believe you, I just can't believe John Wayne, Mr.American didn't enlist!) He was too old for the draft. WOW! I am sorry that is unbelievable. Here John Garfield, tries to enlist twice, but can't because of his heart. So he turns this huge disappointment into at least doing something for the troops and enlists Bette Davis to help start the Hollywood Canteen. Plus, he spends at least 4 years of his life traveling overseas to entertain the troops. Then years late John Garfield faces HUAC! WOW, life is not fair at all. I wonder what all of the other actors thought of Wayne, when he did this, but they served, e.g. Tyrone Power, Clark Gable, Glenn Ford, Jimmy Stewart? I am shocked. Lori
  23. Great picture Tom, thanks. So why wasn't John Wayne in the service during WWII? Here is my contribution. The only way one could expect to see all these "big gun" actors together would be on an album cover, for some radio broadcasts! Sorry, I kind of cheated, but I love this old radio stuff. Lori
  24. Thanks for the information ginnyfan. I am glad I live on the west coast because 11:45pm is a little better time for me than 2:45 am especially since I don't have a DVR. Hey, are you aware of a website called, MovieKids? Here is the website http://www.moviekids.tv/code/ff/display.php?id=15406 Ginny is in there I just looked at it briefly, but it looked interesting. I liked Ginny because she was a very good child actress and she was cute. Not too cute if you know what I mean? Ginny kind of looked like a regular little American girl. She sure had an acting talent that lived in her that wasn't regular at all. Lori
  25. Ginnyfan I was just joking when I wrote I wouldn't have the 1981 version of TPART in my house. I saw that version years ago and just didn't care for it at all. Thanks for the info on Alan Reed and character actor Henry Corden, interesting. *Here are a couple more comments people left on my petition today regarding John Garfield.* "As a kid, I'd hear my parents talk about about him with great respect and admiration. As an adult, I know why." "John Garfield's legacy has helped make Warner the legendary company that is today and a box set is a great way to honor that contribution." John Garfield and Lana Turner remained friends after their "affair" was over and the filming of the film ended. She in a 1973 interview stated that John Garfield was her favorite leading man. Thanks Lori
