Cannes Film Festival to Honor Jodie Foster With Lifetime Achievement Palme d’Or

I would like to see Ms Foster co-host "The Essentials" with Ben Mankiewicz . I enjoyed her presentation along with Alicia Malone a few months ago during the growing up on film series.

Monroe Salisbury (an actor I had never heard of) faded into obscurity. In July of 1935, he became an inmate at Patton State Hospital in California, with his occupation listed as “hotel clerk.” He died later that year, after falling off a ladder and fracturing his skull. The Los Angeles Times reported that his body was not identified until two days later, by his sister. Oddly, as early as 1931, several newspapers reported that he was working as a hotel clerk in a Hollywood, in articles of the “whatever happened to” type. But apparently Hollywood then lost track of the former leading man.

I had only heard of Monroe because I had read a book about D.W. Griffith and he was mentioned more than a few times in it. It's sad that today he isn't remembered, because look at all the films he appeared in:

AMC, Regal and Cinemark movie theaters will no longer require fully vaccinated guests to wear face masks

In line with CDC guidelines, masks will be optional for vaccinated moviegoers and will be “strongly encouraged” for all others.

Great news, but... will they be checking everyone's vaccination cards? 🤔

I think this is the perfect date for the Oscars. It's a little distanced from SAG and Golden Globes, and gives folks a chance to see the nominated films in theaters before the ceremony. Many of the films don't show in my region at all until that time frame between SAG and The Oscars.

When the film played at the Strand Theatre in Omaha, R. C. Gary, a Paramount representative, concocted an interesting way to promote the film. He advertised that Wallace Reid had written a book entitled What I Know About Women, and that the book would be handed out for free at the Strand box office. He ran a thousand copies, which were quickly scooped up. The image below shows the contents of the book:

Wouldn't it be something if a copy of one of those "books" were to show up somewhere?

  10. Whenever I see an actress whose looks were minimized for a screen role, it is then that I think of them as their most beautiful.  Olivia didn't strike me as plain in the least in THE HEIRESS; just extremely shy (and of course verbally abused by her father.) Also, when she starts to recover from her mental breakdown in THE SNAKE PIT, she is sans make-up and looks very beautiful to me.

Dorothy Malone in THE MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES looks very pretty when she returns after a suicide attempt to try and regain a relationship with her son. She hardly has any make-up on at all.

I think the person who surprised me the most was Lady Gaga in A STAR IS BORN. With her natural hair color, very little make-up (and normal clothing 😄), I thought for the first time she is a pretty lady.

...Something about Wendy Hiller: I just love her perfectly arched eyebrows and she couldn't hide them no matter how plain the role called for her to be!
