  1. Thanks for highlighting these (in many cases) lesser acknowledged actors and actresses!
  2. The films of Pat O'Brien I enjoy most seem to be the ones in which his co-star is another man!He played great opposite James Cagney and Dick Powell in all their films together. I also liked him with Humphrey Bogart in SAN QUENTIN, HAVING WONDERFUL CRIME with George Murphy and Carol Landis, and THE FRONT PAGE with Adolfe Menjou. Later on he was good as the police detective determined to catch gangster George Raft in SOME LIKE IT HOT.
  3. I think John Gilbert would have had better roles at Paramount or Columbia (in the 1930's.) In my opinion, Mayer was ungrateful toward Gilbert; Gilbert helped make MGM what it was in the second half of the 1920s. He also wanted to write and direct more films, but Mayer didn't want to help him flourish.
  4. Ah, boy did I want to slap Ms Granville's character in THESE THREE! She was also good in NOW, VOYAGER and HITLER'S CHILDREN.
  5. I thought he was great in THIEF with Tuesday Weld and FOR THE BOYS with Bette Midler, but I have to say I liked him best in ELF!
  6. I love the hats from the 1920s, especially the ones that had a little bit of scarf on them. I don't know who this actress is (maybe a very young Myrna Loy?), but I love her look!
  7. They should have added in their headline "...and theaters closed." Where I live, there haven't been any theaters open since last March.
  8. This style of hat I'm sure was worn by many in its day, but this gent wore it better than most.
  9. I loved Vera Miles' spunky Laurie in THE SEARCHERS. She was spunky again as the cook and object of Wayne's and Stewart's affections in THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE. I also liked her as Henry Fonda's wife in THE WRONG MAN, and of course as Janet Leigh's sister, Lila, in PSYCHO.
  10. March 17th was a good day to honor Barry Fitzgerald! I liked his stubbornness in GOING MY WAY, his uncharacteristically abusive role in THE SEA WOLF, and his buddy to the boxing coach in HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY. He was also good in AND THEN THERE WERE NONE and NONE BUT THE LONELY HEART. I think he is most memorable to me in THE QUIET MAN, though.
  11. She was definitely rememberable in DETOUR for being a B****, lol. I would like to see KLONDIKE KATE, a Columbia film in which she also starred with Tom Neal.
  12. David, if you have downloaded the Watch TCM app, the film is still on the menu and it includes both the intro and outro in which Ben and Eddie discuss the MacGuffin. This link may work for you, but if not, you can scroll through the list of films on the menu and find it there (it's about 115 films down from the top of the list.) https://www.tcm.com/watchtcm/films?icid=mainnav13-watch-movies
  13. That sounds like a shady congregation... πŸ˜„
  14. I think the prime time spots for Tuesdays all March are reserved for the "Growing Up On Screen" film stars, so we have a night of Elizabeth Taylor films tonight.
  15. Yes, but this time the Oscar and Razzie would be for the same performance! πŸ™‚
  16. Wouldn't it be crazy if Ms Close finally wins an Oscar for this film and she wins the Razzie, too? πŸ˜„
  17. I'd love that! Or how about one for Cedric Hardwicke? πŸ˜ƒ
  18. I love everything Danny Kaye has appeared in, but I can only watch one film per week or so. I think his energy starts to overwhelm me! πŸ˜„ Some of my favorites are the films he did with Vera-Ellen, Virginia Mayo and Steve Cochran (WONDER MAN, THE KID FROM BROOKLYN.) KNOCK ON WOOD is another favorite of mine, but absolutely THE COURT JESTER is my favorite. Everyone is terrific in it and so many hilarious scenes! My favorite scene: πŸ˜„
  19. I wish ON BORROWED TIME would get a prime time spot at least once instead of always during the daytime. It really deserves it. πŸ™‚
  20. I loved Bebe Daniels in the "Lonesome Luke" silent films she appeared in with Harrold Lloyd. I also thought she was great in COUNSELLOR AT LAW, RIO RITA and as the original Miss Wonderly in the 1931 version of THE MALTESE FALCON. Did you know Ms Daniels was likely the first screen "Dorothy" in the 1910 version of THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ? No screen credits survive, so it's not official, but it is generally regarded that it is indeed her.
  21. I thought Sal Mineo was fantastic in THE GENE KRUPA STORY. I also liked him in GIANT and again he was fantastic in EXODUS. I think he would have transitioned into a busy character actor if he had not been killed so young.
  22. I watched a video of this on YouTube. Pretty weird way to protest, if you ask me...
  23. Sounds like maybe the Bridgeport Times intended that as a compliment.
  24. I think I first saw Ms Bergen on TV in MURPHY BROWN, in which she was perfectly cast (I love that show!) She was also good in CARNAL KNOWLEDGE and THE WIND AND THE LION. I liked her role in MISS CONGENIALITY, as well.
