  1. I love the Ken Murray home movies! I don't know how many of them there are, either, but it seems I haven't seen too many repeat showings of them.
  2. Ha ha, I love when that happens! It's a good opportunity to fall down the forum topics from yerteryear rabbit hole. Any topic I see with Astaire's name in it, I'm going to read all the posts.
  3. The Winning Of Barbara Worth is still around, too. Is that a lobby card up there in your post, TomJH ? It's really nice.
  4. I love that dance number, too! Also, I thought the finale of the Courier and Ives sequence was wonderful.
  5. Yes! I love that film. I think Fred and Vera-Ellen were nicely matched, even though their other film, The Belle Of New York, was kind of silly.
  6. This is not quite a spin into a chair, but a spin into a ....piano. One of my very favorites, from Fred and Vera-Ellen. In my mind, I imagine that, even without the soundtrack, their dancing didn't make any noise at all.
  7. I feel this way about Greta Garbo's melancholy ballerina in GRAND HOTEL. Way too melodramatic, and when she is beckoning the phone to "ring, ring", I can't help but snicker. This is the only of Garbo's performances that I don't feel she was right for.
  8. You're lucky folks is you get to attend that CapitolFest. *Sigh*
  9. Have you tried using a different browser, TomJH? Obviously, Google should work, but maybe IE, Safari or Firefox won't? I know IE stopped working for me on YouTube.
  10. I think that was the first time I saw him. I loved all his performances. My favorite Martin Crane moment from Frazier : RIP
  11. I saw Phantom Thread, as well. It was my sister's birthday, and she chose it. I will never let her forget it, either. I kept waiting for some exciting plot twist, but it never came. Perhaps it was just over my head. There were four in our group and none of us enjoyed it, although one of my sisters is passionate about fabric, so she enjoyed some of the sewing and patterning scenes.
  12. Happy centennial birthday today to the beautiful and multi-talented Ida Lupino, born February 4, 1918!
  13. Happy centennial birthday to Joey Bishop, born February 3, 1918!
  14. I actually haven't seen most of the films on the nomination list. I've seen Lady Bird and Phantom Thread. I do plan to see Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and Darkest Hour, though. I don't get out much!
  15. So, Spence, you're predicting another year of the rare split of best director and best picture. I like it when that occurs. The more it happens, the more interesting the last half- hour of the show becomes!
  16. Happy centennial birthday to John Forsythe, born January 29, 1918!
  17. I still don't understand the intense dislike of Tiffany. She does tend to be political on social media. Could that have possibly anything to do with it?
  18. I couldn't find a video clip of the actual film footage, but the closing credits song, No Blade Of Grass, from the film of the same name, is truly beautiful. I saw the film for the first time on TCM's survival films night. The song is sung by Roger Whittaker.
  19. Agree with both of you about Ford. I also thought he was very good in Dear Heart.
  20. Charles Boyer, Liv Ullmann, Peter Finch, John Gielgud, Michael York, George Kennedy, Bobby Van, etc, in the 1973 version of Lost Horizon. I *tried* to watch it the other night on Charles Boyer SOTM day. Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  21. I hope Laurie Metcalf does win. I've been a fan of hers for a long time. I don't really mind the Kimmel hosting the awards. I do like a host with musical talent, however (even Seth MacFarlane's numbers were kind of fun.) Someday I'd like to see Nathan Lane host.
  22. Jim Carrey annoys me instantly when I see him. He doesn't even have to be speaking or moving. Just seeing him is enough. Two classic film stars who I find annoying are Betty Hutton and Mickey Rooney. I think they are just too broad in their gestures for my taste. Nothing personal against either of them, though.
  23. How about Tina Fey? She does her best work when partnered with someone else, though.
