  1. As a kid I saw many of the "classic" horror flicks on just regular movie feature programs.  No weird characters hosting or such.  Not until I was about 12 then some guy in a fright wig and a white lab coat started up a late night "creature Feature" type show calling himself "MORGUS".  He was a riot.

You can still catch "Dr Morgus" on the Coast To Coast late night radio show. He shows up as a guest every now and again- and he's still wacky!

  2. Svengoolie brings back memories for me, as well. For me, though, as a kid from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970's, it was Bob Wilkins and his "Creature Features" show on Saturday nights.

My parents would go out on Sat nights and leave my sisters and I (all under the age of 12) at home with the TV for a babysitter- boy have times changed!

We sat in front of that TV for the CBS mega-block of All In The Family, M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler-Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, Carol Burnett Show, then we switched over to KTVU for Creature Features. My parents saved a lot in babysitting money, I think!

  3. ...And I also believe that once watching "classic" movies  is proven to not  mean being ostracized by the "herd", then more in younger generations will take to looking in.

It seems (to me anyway) that  current youth/young adults who are interested in classic film are "usually" the same type who take an interest in all things from a previous time period, such as LP records, classic guitars, first generation video games, etc.

My parents were born during the great depression, and exposed my sisters and I to classic Hollywood films when we were kids during the 1970's. I kind of took it from there; sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to watch an old film on TV, or scouring through the entertainment sections of the newspapers looking for screenings of classic films, purchasing books about film and it's stars.

I have tried unsuccessfully to pass on the love to my daughter, but (at 29 ) she still laughs and is bored with any film produced before 1970. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, is one of those types I mentioned above, and he is a sponge for classic film.

  4. I always held a little grudge against Yuri Zhivago for cheating on his sweet, docile wife. I didn't have a problem with Lara, though, as the men in her life were not ideal choices, and I felt a bit sorry for her. Also, Tonya said she was a good person.

So, how much of a double-standard answer was that? ;)

  5. Okay. Seein' how this discussion is still goin' on, HERE'S somethin' I'VE always liked to have had a clear and definitive answer to:

Am I wrong to still be wearing white almost a week and half after the Labor Day holiday has come to pass?

(...and if I am, why's that, and who in the hell ever came up with THIS fashion faux pas rule anyway, HUH?!)

    ;)

I'm dead in the fashion water; my entire work uniform is white!

Here is a not-so-serious explanation of white and Labor day:

  6. That confused me, as well. I started thinking I had missed another dance scene somewhere, so I went to the trusty YouTube to see if I could locate it, but nothing surfaced.

Rita and Anthony Quinn made for a lovely couple in that routine, didn't they?
