Movie in color. About WWII. Starts out with a platoon of German soldiers marching down a street in a village in Italy. Someone sets off a bomb and kills some of the soldiers. The German commander in the village says that 10 Italians will be executed for each German soldier that died. Most of the movie has to do with the interaction between the German commander and a catholic priest as they prepare a list of Italians to be executed. At the end of the movie Italian hostages are being shot. The German commander is about to shoot a hostage. When the hostage turns around, he sees that it is the priest. I think this movie was based on actual events.
