  1. "I have nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of. My life is an open book. I am...a loyal citizen of this country by every act of my life." And HUAC closed its investigation shortly after his death. Getting away from the paranoid politics of the era, why do people who know they are ill avoid treatment? Garfield felt ill, unnaturally chilled, and refused a doctor. He instead curled up with a blanket and died. Roy Orbison supposedly had chest pains the entire day of his death, and did nothing.
  2. > {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote}For some reason, I could pick up KMOX in St. Louis all the way from Philly. I think the Cardinals were on KMOX, and that's one reason they had a large following all over the south and southwest, especially since they were for many years the furthest south and west team in the majors. 50,000 watts of clear signal. I still listen to the Cards at night on occasion here in central MD. Years ago, when we thought the football Cards might move to Baltimore from StL, I listened to sports shows from there every night. WKBW was the big rock n roll station after dark in the DC area in the 60s. Our station shut down at dark in those days and that one came in clear as a bell from Buffalo. It still does, playing minor league baseball and political talk.
  3. Farwood, Curtis-Paul Harvey in EASY TO WED (1946)
  4. Bishop I'm now going to use the same three names I used yesterday. I was shocked to find out that Lavender's answer of March worked, because that isn't the name I meant. So here goes... Frederic, Steve, and Sally ( but not March)
  5. Davis was in CRASH LANDING (1958) with Irene Hervey
  6. Warner seemed to hold onto the studio formula a little longer than the others with the way they abused their young contract players. If you wanted any film roles, you better do their TV series at a few hundred a week. Good money to guys like my dad, but hardly Hollywood money.
  7. Teresa Wright is another big favorite for me. Gee, I guess I have a fairly obvious type I like when it comes to actresses. She was given too little to do in a lot of her films, and always made the best of it. Since I think there isn't enough Teresa out there now, I'll certainly check it out when I get the chance.
  8. Wikipedia also states that ...Virginia Woolf? was the first film released under the production office's "suggested for mature audiences" compromise pripr to the start of the rating system. Who here remembers movies rated "M"?
  9. Wikipedia credits Blowup (1966) as the first film released by a major distributor, MGM, after being rejected by the production office. That opened the floodgates and the ratings system stated in 1968.
  10. Sebastian's first legal solo album-MGM released a live one claiming he owed them under the Spoonful's Kama Sutra contract and he got it taken off the market-included version of Darlin' Be Home Soon and You're A Big Boy Now. He was writing such great music from 1966 to 1971 or so. Then it turned into Welcome Back...
  11. Zapata, Josefa-Jean Peters in VIVA ZAPATA! (1952)
  12. Thanks, I will check out more issues. The Porter article was in an issue saluting Donald O'Connor and Ellen Drew. Those articles were also quite good. I mentioned in the Susan Gordon thread that I had recently seen her appearance on Route 66. She was always a very believable child actress. Tonight, I'm getting pumped up for ALL THIS, AND HEAVEN TOO in the morning. (OK, it's actually on Wednesday morning. The days are all the same since I retired...) 13. TO THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI (1942) next- jaywalking
  14. Clarkson Frederic, Steve, and Sally
  15. Forrest was in THE STRIP (1951) with Mickey Rooney
  16. TCM already shows plenty of Hitchcock and a decent amount of adventure and sci-fi. If you want a lot of sci fi there's always...syfy. If you want Men's programming, there's MAV TV and SPIKE. As for that last comment, I just don't believe you are for real.
  17. I certainly apologize for being so hard on Rydell since you served in the Guard with him. As a rockabilly fan I just never liked the crooner guys in my youth, although I became a big Bobby Darin fan as an adult. Plus I'm guessing I'm about ten years younger and everything pre-Beatles were always oldies to me.
  18. Monroe was in LOVE HAPPY (1949) with Vera-Ellen
  19. Xander-Chris Warren Jr.in ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS:THE SQUEAKQUEL
  20. Vinson, Lucille-Melanie Griffith in CRAZY IN ALABAMA (1999)
