While Webb was far from subtle, and I'm sure hs politics were pretty far from mine, I've always liked his work because he used a lot of actors I didn't get to see anywhere else. A lot of my favorite old time radio voices weren't seen on TV except in Webb productions.
I do wish he had acted more in other people's work, because the two movies we mentioned here show he didn't have to always play Jack Webb.
I've heard of RED NIGHTMARE but haven't seen it. The air defense short wasn't quite as over the top, but did bash the NIMBYS who didn't want an air base next to their town.

Webb also was in a film with Morgan the year before, DARK CITY. That was another Paramount release where Webb was a psycho heel.
Jack tended to "dance with those who brung 'im"; he used actors he already knew and could trust in everything. The short TCM showed about a week ago on Air Defense featured Jack and a bunch of his Dragnet pals.

Apparently, Antenna TV has a deal for Columbia/Screen Gems titles, because most of the old movies are Columbia titles. We don't get ME in the Balt/Wash area, but we have multiple sources for THIS, which will occasionally dig up an old MGM title. I saw YOUNG TOM EDISON there last year.
DC's major PBS outlet, WETA, is good for a classic movie almost weekly.

He didn't really go there, did he? I lean toward severely limiting the number of post-studio era films on TCM, but it's simply on the grounds that a lot of other services on cable already feed me the later stuff. I make no judgement that one era is always superior to another.
I do have a bit of prejudice against films that are all special effects and gimmicks with no characterizations.
And BTW, Hitler preferred Busby Berkeley because he himself was a heck of a dancer.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this film. Commenters in my Virginia Weidler thread compared her silence in retirement to Durbin's own self imposed exile and my research has led me to looking at several other juvenile actresses including Deanna's backup, Gloria Jean.
I must admit that I don't believe I've seen a Durbin feature in over twenty years, and I couldn't tell you which one I saw then. I have seen EVERY SUNDAY several times, but that doesn't really count.
