  1. Nussbaum, Mark-Steven Weber in LEAVING LAS VEGAS (1995)
  2. To whomever asked, PVR is a Personal Video Recorder. The term is now interchangeable with DVR, although I used to use it to differentiate between the cable/satellite DVR and my dvd/hdd recorders. I still have two vcrs hooked into my home entertainment locations, but they generally serve only as clocks. Add me to the people who love dvd/hdd recorders. It's a pity that no one is making them now. I'm going to hate it when mine give up the ghost.

  4. Johansen, Virginia-Virginia Weidler in BARNICLE BILL (1941)
  5. Sally Field was in THE WAY WEST (1967) with William Lundigan

He was voice by Sherman Helmsley, (George Jefferson.) I'm pretty sure Ed ran the bases when he tried out for the Dodgers. Slid into home as well, I think.
  7. FYI, if anyone has Antenna TV in their area, that service is running 5 AGAINST THE HOUSE this Thursday at 7 AM Eastern.
  8. Based on this thread, I kind of feel that TCM missed the boat by not playing the theme from JAWS underneath the McCrea ads this month. Either that or KING OF KINGS. One or the other. I'm looking forward to a lot of these films, too.
  9. I have considered contacting her two sons, but I'm not particularly aggressive and I fear that if they had ever spoken about their mother after her death, I'd find those comments somewhere. So far, I've seen nothing indicating that either has ever mentioned their mother publicly. Right now, I have a letter outstanding to "one of her contemporaries", but I'm a little less sure of a reply on this one than on Gloria's. With Gloria, I had her website friends assuring me that she would want to help if she could, and she has a reputation for kindness to fans. This letter was sent cold without any assurance of reply.
  10. James Stewart was in THE PHILADELPHIA STORY with Virginia Weidler (Sorry, it was just too easy)
  11. Maybe I just have a soft spot for dialect work, but I've always loved John Qualen and Karl Swenson. In the latter case, Swenson did a lot more of his work on old time radio and classic TV than on film. Qualen just makes me smile anytime he shows up on film. To me, he and Thomas Mitchell make THE LONG VOYAGE HOME work.
  12. Thank you for the notice. I'm probably more familiar with her from classic TV rather than from film.
  13. I wanted to supply a small update to my efforts to find out more about Virginia's exit from show business. Thanks to her website, gloriajeansings.com, and the wonderful couple who run it, I was able to get in touch with actress Gloria Jean to ask her about working with Ginny and whether or not she knew anything about her later life. I had never tried to contact anyone from the business before, so I was unsure what to expect. Within just a few days, I received a wonderful handwritten reply from Gloria. While she said they enjoyed working together, she was not able to offer additional information because they had not stayed in touch over the years. Still, Gloria's note was just so touching to me that she cerrtainly gained a bigger fan on this end.
