  1. Next "Untamed Youth" update to follow... MAN, would I kill for a set o' cheekbones like John Russell had! (...on his FACE, on his FACE...get your minds out of the gutter here, people!!!) Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 20, 2013 6:02 PM
  2. >when the girls are starting to fight, the one says "get ready for an Italian haircut!"... then proceeds to yank on her hair! Noticed that one too, did ya Darb?! (...well, I don't think Miss Lollobrigida had anything to worry about from THESE girls!)
  3. Next "Untamed Youth" update to follow... Funny how Letterman Jackets never go out of style, isn't it? (...nooooo, NOT those double-breasted numbers Dave always wears late at night)
  4. Next "Untamed Youth" update to follow... The Judge: And you folks think Mary ASTOR was "matronly"!!!!
  5. Okay. So far the opening credits in "Untamed Youth" show a featured player named "Keith Richards", and then 15 minutes into this baby, an incarcerated Mamie warbles the song "Like a Rolling Stone"(no, not the Zimmerman version) Coincidence? You be the judge. Btw, LOVED the old BSA Super Rocket the kid named "Bob Steele"(no, not the old cowboy star) rides up on at the 20 minute mark.
  6. Once again it appears this Southwestern American yahoo here agrees with the noble Canuck up that'a way, eh?!
  7. LOL Good reply! So, did you read my reply to James down there yet? I thought it might have been a point or two which you didn't bring up when you and he were discussing the differences you have regarding all the "Dame" sequences in that Bogie film.
  8. This means we can discuss Joy's abs TOO then, right Tom?!
  9. Actually James, I read that exchange between you and Tom, and I have to say I disagreed with your opinion about that....and here's why...at least from the perspective of my own personal likes and dislikes, anyway. Personally, I much enjoy watching a "serious" film which includes those little scenes of more lighthearted fare, as I find it more, say, "realistically portrays life as it really is". Not every minute of our daily lives is as intense and serious as the most intense and serious minutes of our days, are they? And secondly, as was Hitchcock's stock-in-trade, as little comedy relief or lighter presented moments within HIS films never seems to drag down the suspense in HIS films, did they? And so, watching Bogie interacting with those ladies I FIND to be, say, "a refreshing break" between the more intense elements in "The Big Sleep", and don't feel at all that they don't belong or slow down the plot. (...but like I said, this is only MY opinion on this)
  10. >The scene and shot you mention is one of the main reasons I want to see The Burglar. Based on the noir book I have it said they use all the noir devices, but maybe overdo it a bit. But others here have said that isn't the case. Too bad I was on vacation and the hotel didn't carry TCM. Eeh! All things considered James, I would of..err..WOULD HAVE rather been in Yosemite TOO!!!
  11. Btw, SPEAKING of "sidetracking" here.... Didn't finance actually go BACK to the original topic of one luscious little actress named Joy Barlow here? AND, wouldn't all this talk about Mr.Duryea here, WHICH I might add neither finance NOR myself introduced into this baby, actually BE "sidetracking"??? (...I should'a been a freakin' lawyer!) ROFL
  12. HA!!! Just read my LATEST insightful posting in this thread, dear lavender, and I'll be expecting an apology comin' from ya as soon as you finish reading it!
  13. Actually this latest post of yours reminded me of the inventive use of the camera that director Paul Wendkos used in this film, and when he has the camera inside the opened safe after Duryea has absconded with the necklace and then shows the rich old biddy walking past it while brushing her teeth and then FINALLY discovering she's been robbed. (...THAT was very clever, I thought!)
  14. >Let me try to un-derail the thread. What kind of abs did Barlow have? Oooooh, good move here, Bro. (...I think that LAST thing this place needs today is yet another thread decrying how you and I get these babies off track!!!) LOL And sooooooo, just lookin' at the luscious Joy yet again at the beginning of this thread, I WOULD say they were just okay. It's those beautiful eyes and those full lips and that cute little nose o' hers framed by those raven-haired tresses of hers that I GO for!
  15. Better watch it, Sans! I guess I've never told before what hearing a women speak Latin DOES to me, HUH!
  16. >However, I couldn't see her going for Gerald Mohr. Why not, Rich? Lucy thought the guy was pretty suave at one time, RIGHT?!
  17. Either one, I suppose. Though I was under the impression that the term "abs" in the present lexicon primarily refers to the presences of abdominal muscles being visible. (...though I couldn't tell ya if it's been "formally" changed within the pages of Gray's Anatomy or not!)
  18. >I never saw him do any exercise, but he used to try out his material on the staff. I'm thinkin' his "abs"(or lack thereof) might've given THAT away, finance.
  19. >"argumentum ad absurdum" Wow! So Sans, you're not ONLY quite proficient in the English language, but ya have a pretty good handle on that there Latin thing TOO, huh??? (...btw, quite an excellent write-up here...but then again, that doesn't surprise me!)
  20. Yeah, well, there ARE a few decent laughs to had out here in the Southwestern part of the Good Ol' U.S. of A. TOO, ya know, lady!!!! "No respect...I'm tellin' ya, NO respect 'round here sometimes!" LOL
  21. >Short answer: Just look at what they're putting out. Actions speak louder than inner conflicts. Best answer so far in this thread, Andy. And to expand a bit upon it, I'm sure it comes to nobody's surprise that because unlike in the earlier era mentioned and when the demographic of the movie going public was a wide spectrum of all ages, today's movie going public is dominated by the 16-24 year old crowd, and a demographic which has never, even in the "old day", been inclined toward introspection and the enjoyment of viewing a character's "inner conflict". (...btw Jymn...I also bid you a welcome to the boards)
  22. Actually Tom, while I'm now wondering why it appears you wish to get Mr.Duryea and Mr.Brown together so badly, I'm thinkin' the more logical "re-casting" in this regard would have been to have Dan play the Tony Curtis part. (...depending upon of course HIS abilities to do a decent Cary Grant impression!!!)
  23. Well, and besides THAT, of the two male characters in a romp as these kinds of movies are, the guy who gets the girl in the end(or any OTHER part of her for THAT matter) "is supposed to be" the "dominant" one, not the "worrisome" one. (...I mean who always got Dorothy Lamour in the end of all those "Road Pictures", huh?!...and ALL of Dorothy Lamour, I might add!)
