  1. Yeah, good point, Tom. HEY EDDIE! Remember to ALWAYS be ESPECIALLY wary of those Mary Astor sad-eyed(and slightly "matronly") types while you're doin' your sleuthin' out there, ol' buddy. Those are often THE most dangerous dames, 'cause unlike those more obvious vixen types like Bebe Daniels, THEY'RE much harder to read! (...well, that is unless you've already been tipped off beforehand by some Chinese dude, anyway)
  2. >Who cares anyway. And THIS coming form YOU, Twinkeee!!! I'LL tell ya "who cares" here, lady! I DO!!! 'Cause if it WASN'T for these inconsequential little threads like THIS around here, I wouldn't have ANYPLACE to post this absurdist humor of mine, THAT'S why!!! (...okay, okay...I suppose I can and occasionally do this in other threads, but it's usually frowned upon in the more "serious discussion" threads around here, ya know)
  3. >Actually, at that point, the score was 2-0. The HIT count was 5-2. Yet Mario was watching the same game I was, and should have been aware of the correct score. He sometimes gets the count wrong, too. Like saying "2 and 0, the count on Fielder..." when the count is 2 and 1. That's kind of more glaring a gaff than RO saying "chained" instead of "chain", so maybe we should just chill... "Chill"? "CHILL", you say??? Sepia, I'm SHOCKED to hear(okay "read") this coming from you! I was hoping YOU'D be the very first to sign the petition I'm gonna start to have ALL errors(on the baseball diamond, the broadcast booth AND within life itself) eradicated from the face of the Earth!!! (...man...you've really let me down here, ol' boy!!!)
  4. Hmmmm...well, do you have a Toshiba TV set, Twink? 'Cause word is THAT company prides itself on being "green" also. (...and so MAYBE it's not YOU)
  5. >These films slip through the cracks and it takes real detective work -- and luck -- to find enough surviving elements from which to rebuild the film. So Eddie, while this process is goin' on, do you wear a Fedora or not??? (...just figured I might not be the only joker around here who might wanna know this, that's all)
  6. >Maybe his intro's are recycled. Good point, Twink. TCM HAS in the past prided itself on being a "Green" cable channel, ya know. (...and even though much of its programming is in B&W!!!)
  7. Yep, and because that movie is so long, that means he doesn't have to tape nearly as many of his intros in a day. (...I mean he IS salaried and doesn't get paid PER intro, RIGHT?!)
  8. >Look, just the fact alone that R.O. manages to not periodically reach over to Drew and "thump the melon" in search of a brain is enough evidence of his patience and restraint. LOL >(not to even mention that he can still manage to fake enthusiasm over watching Lawrence of Arabia one more effin' time.) Eeh! Bob isn't "faking his enthusiasm" here, Addison! Nope, I think he likes watchin' that movie any ol' time it comes on....'cause at his age, he's always glad to know he still has the peripheral vision to see the whole 70mm wide screen format! (...sorry Bob, if you're out there...I just couldn't resist...I still love ya, ol' boy!)
  9. >Not to say that RO sets off any sparks with the initimitable Ms, Barrymore, either. Yep, and if you've noticed, he especially does a whole lot of that "Right!" interjection of his while little Drew is talkin' that Valley Girl talk of hers, also! (...uh huh...there's that "tell" again here, Bob...deep down inside you really don't think much of Drew's opinions, do ya..wink..wink!!!) LOL
  10. Here are my thoughts on this SPECIFIC matter, TB. If this film were a WWII film, I'm not talking about a WWII ERA film, but a film with the plot involving the war itself, such as how US soldiers might have talked about our enemy at that time, or even a film about the home front and civilians talking in such a manner, THEN I say it would be shame to have that now considered epithet excised from the dialogue of those films because as you mentioned it would sort of be "re-writing history". However, in the case of this particular film(which I might add, I thought was..well..pretty lame not only because of it's premise, but because many of the characters were too unbelievable and too broadly acted...but I digress) the idea of interjecting this word into the plot of this "Romantic Comedy" which has noting to do with the war effort of the time and was most likely ONLY added because it was made during the time of our conflict with the Japanese Empire AND as some sort of feeble attempt to sound "patriotic" to the audience during the time this movie was being made and first released, well, this would NOT allow it to fall into the same category as the one I outlined above. And thus, I have absolutely no qualms at all about the word being cut out in THIS film specifically..
  11. Hey MissW...I've been teachin' her everything I KNOW, anyway!!!! LOL
  12. >Oh, we Know you could go On & On & On & On Hmmmm...5'll getcha 10 if heuriger was still around(and yes, while she COULD be a prickly one, I liked her "spunk"...but I digress), she would have now posted the YouTube link to a certain Stephen Bishop hit song from the year 1977!!! LOL
  13. Oh, trust me here Twink, I COULD go on FOREVER about this topic..or for THAT matter, almost ANY "societal" topic. LOL You should know THAT about me by now! (...but this is not the proper forum or website for such matters, of course)
  14. I'm just going to say one more thing about Molly and her "feminist" viewpoint here, and before this whole thing gets out of hand. Ya see Fred, the problem Good Golly Miss Molly has is that SHE seems to think that it's primarily the MEN in the world who are "keepin' women down"...I'm talkin' about in the "First" or "Industrialized" World here, mind you/ BUT you see, the REAL problem in TODAY'S "First" or "Industrialized' World is that for every MAN who attempts to do that, there USUALLY are TWO WOMEN stabbin' her in the back and keeping her from movin' up that "Ladder"...and HALF the time ONE of those women is the poor gal's MOTHER, who in her own little subtle manner, and often even unbeknownst to herself, conveys to her daughter that she will never "be as good" as the man in her life! In OTHER words..."TRADITION"!!!! (...and now, as I said, THIS will be all I'm going to say about this matter)
  15. Yes...yes she WAS...in the "traditional" way. Remember now, Claudette in that WWII "home front" movie was "strong" while she taught her two daughters to be "strong" and develop the American version of Mrs.Minniver's "stiff upper lip" philosophy, and she was "strong" while volunteering at the Red Cross, TOO! (...in other words, ALL the things a "good little wife" would and should have done in the 1940s!!!) LOL (edit to follow) Sorry for laughin' here Fred, but SOMETIMES I just can't HELP IT!!!! Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 12, 2013 6:35 PM
  16. Yeah, Dothery?! And I ALWAYS wondered why that toaster decided to pop those two slices of toast five feet in the air and right onto the floor JUST as Kate was acting like she'd never been inside a kitchen in her LIFE! I mean c'mon now, I MYSELF have never cooked or baked anything that required a recipe(in other words, makin' a sandwich would pretty much be the extent of MY "culinary skills") and yet MY toaster has NEVER done that to ME!!! LOL
  17. Hey Fred! I thought you said some time back you swore off playin' with dynamite around here! LOL And if ya don't get my meaning here, that meant the topic of Molly's feminist leanings vs your, let us say, "more tradition" leanings in this matter, COULD potentially blow up not only in YOUR face but everybody ELSE'S face in this thread TOO! (...and so in the meantime if anybody needs me, I'll be flyin' around the cosmos with Fly in one of his spaceships!!!) LOL
  18. Exactly, my dear! I'm glad to see you understood what I meant here. (...gee, I must be gettin' better at 'spainin' myself in my declining years, huh!)
  19. Aah, okay. I've just now returned from that IMDb page, and I think I now know where MY confusion lie..lay..or IS it "lie"? Here's what it says over there: Professor Quatermass, trying to gather support for Moon colonisation his project to colonize the Moon, is intrigued by the mysterious traces that have been showing up on his radar - meteorites crashing down?. Following them to the place where they should be landing he finds a destroyed village, a mysterious factory too close to his designs for the Moon colony for comfort, and some strange, aerodynamic objects containing a mysterious, ammonia-based gas that infects one of his assistants. Officially, the factory is producing synthetic food; but despite the veil of secrecy surrounding it Quatermass succeeds in finding out it harbours aliens with deadly designs on the Earth... Second in Hammer Films' trio of screen versions for Nigel Kneale's classic 1950s BBC Serials. And so, it appears I mis-read the part up there that I put in bold letters. Sorry. (...hopefully Fly will now return to this thread and explain why he said what he said)
  20. True Twink, however I think there could be considered a slight difference in the "relationship dynamics" he might have between an elderly ex-movie star such as Novak, and between a movie historian/critic who he might find himself sitting across from at any given time, wouldn't you say? (...in other words, if I WERE interviewing Kim, I would've attempted to handle HER as well as Bob did by allowing her to just reminisce and assist her in that regard, BUT if I were interviewing a fellow film historian and felt I disagreed with one of their opinions, which as you know not all film historians agree with each on all issues, I think it can often add to a conversion IF I could express my counter-opinion in a manner which could then elicit some follow-up info from the other party in support of their opinion...know what I mean, jellybean?)
  21. >It's so interesting, while I was watching Blues In the Night this afternoon, I had to take a second look, I thought it was Ann Sheridan for a moment, even though I knew she wasn't in the film. They look like twins. ( or at least sisters) Remarkable resemblance. Thanks again for posting the photos. You're quite welcome, lavender. (...btw, you know why I was nice enough to do this for ya, don't ya?!...well, it's 'cause.."My Mama done told me, when I was in knee-pants, it's nice to help folks out, as much as ya can"!!!)
  22. I should probably let Fly answer this, dark, but earlier I also wondered why he'd bring that Heston flick into this. And so, never having watched the movie "Enemy from Space", I looked it up at the IMDb website, and the scenario of that film says that in the plot there's some kinda trouble in River City...err...sorry, I mean at some futuristic "synthetic food factory". And so that's probably what he was alluding to.
  23. Sooo....it's been established that the author's name is CORRECTLY pronounced with THREE syllables instead of just two, eh?! (...hey Addison, if you're out there...do you know if Hammett might have hailed from the great state of North Carolina TOO????)
  24. Yep, I also think there's more than a little resemblance between the two ladies, lavender.
