>Data was an ANDROID, not a robot. The article is bogus. Well definite1, if you're infinitely sure... (wait, lemme try that again here...) Well infinite1, if you're definitely sure about this, then I sure ain't gonna argue the point with ya here 'cause ya could be right!!!

> But ya gotta realize...today, they would have given serious consideration to sniggling little details like the air intake, and spent far less time developing the STORY! LOL Ain't THAT the truth!!! >Also, btw, we DON'T wonder if you're crazy. We're pretty much SURE of it! Well, it's AT LEAST nice to know I have a confirmed diagnosis here then!!! (...there's NOTHIN' worse than not knownin' and waitin' for all those test results to come in, ya know!!!)
-
>I hear they are asking Bob May to step in to the Robot's shoes and shuffle off to Buffalo. Gotta say heuriger, I'm a bit surprised you didn't add a YouTube link under this which would've shown Bugs Bunny exiting stage left to the TUNE of that song!!!! (...you're slippin' here, my dear!!!)
-
>I think Ole' Girl just wants to hang on as long as she can 'cause there's not a worthy successor to the throne (besides maybe Ileanna.) Well, YA KNOW Addision, IF they wouldn't mind a few lame jokes with references aimed at all these old movies, then I suppose I COULD be persuaded to handle the Saturday and Sunday shift for 'em over there!!! (...I mean, don't ya think The Mankster's seniority at this point should allow him at least the OCCASIONAL weekend off???)
-
>Chained smoking is different from chain smoking. Have you seen COOL HAND LUKE? That's what Newman and the guys did during breaks. LOL Well, there IS nothin' like burnin' a few Chesterfields while you're watchin' a young **** wash her car, ya know!!! (...especially if you're only allowed to watch her from afar!)
-
LOL Really finance?! You don't care, HUH?! Then how about writtin' me up a three page essay on why you feel this way then??? (...oh, wait..THAT'S right...never mind!)
-
LOL No thanks, heuriger. I know the song to which you're referencing here. (...in FACT, now that you've mentioned it, I'll probably be hummin' the sucker to myself the rest of day now...THANKS!!!!)

Hey! Speakin' o' Robots here folks... Did you know that since 2003 there's actually been a "Robot Hall of Fame" inside the campus of the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA? Among the inductees are REAL robots and some of the better known "make believe" sort from movies and TV. Uh huh...look! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Hall_of_Fame (...btw, you might notice that "B-9" from the TV series "Lost In Space" is somewhat conspicuous by his absence among these hallowed mechanical inductees...and so if you're wondering why this might be, it appears he had been some kind of illegal gambling and steroid use allegations levied against him in the past which has unfortunately sullied his reputation, thereby making his induction a long shot at present...well, it was either THAT, or the Robot Hall of Fame has never forgiven announcer and B-9 voice artist Dick Tufeld for those nasty things he once said about the city of Pittsburgh)

Cool find here, Fly! Thanks for posting it. (...just one little complaint here though...not enough Anne Francis!) Btw, speakin' of Robby the Robot...I think it was a very wise decision to have Marvin Miller voiceover Robby's original one used in the preliminary shots.

LOL Good one!

Hey heuriger my dear...I gotta know... You still really miss that 8pm to Midnight Rock Jock gig you once held at WRAR in Poughkeepsie back in the '80s, don't ya?!

3 versions of "The Maltese Falcon" tonight (June 7, 2013)

So cigarjoe, I take it here you're still a bit peeved that that Haberdashery you opened up right next to your Tobacco shop didn't succeed like you had hoped, huh?! -
"Noir et BLANC"??? Now Fred, there's no reason to wine...err...I mean WHINE here, dude!
-
Ya know Fly, I read somethin' like that around here occasionally, and while of course you and the others who express this same opinion have a perfect right to feel that way and express it(I mean this IS a "Free Country" and all, as they say), I gotta say I don't get it. Ya see, many more times than not, I'll purposely just tune into TCM just at the scheduled starting times for these flicks JUST to listen to what Bob and The Mankster might have to say about 'em and then change the channel, 'cause in many cases I've already seen the films many times already. I figure I might learn somethin', ya see. And yes, while those two DO admittedly make an occasional error regarding the facts, I really like the warming and welcoming feel I get from 'em, too. (...but hey, like they ALSO say, "To each their own", eh?!...which coincidentally happens to be one of my favorite Olivia de Havilland flicks...probably because I was adopted in infancy...and no, NOT by a pack of wild movie nerds)
-
Yeah, I suppose you bring up some good points here, however what I'm MOST glad about is that you brought up the name of Richard Whorf here. Ya see, for YEARS I've thought that that guy looks a whole lot like Eddie Cantor, and so I've been wondering if I'm crazy, OR if anyone else out there thinks this TOO??? (...btw...you ARE welcomed to answer the above as a two part question if you'd like)
-
Yeah, I would make a little game outta that back then. Uh huh...every time I'd see one of the character's skin tone bleed into the background color, I'd take a sip of my Single Malt Scotch I have sittin' on my bar. (...and by the time all those scientists and military men FINALLY figured out that FIRE "might work" in eradicating their misbehaving guest, I really didn't care anymore...okay, okay...I still cared, but a whole lot less)

Sci-fi not film noir favors technicolor

Oh yeah, THAT would've helped, alright! I can see it all now. As the spacecraft re-enters Earth's atmosphere, Wesson says to the others, "Hey! How come it's gettin' so HOT in here, HUH?!" And then John Archer replies, "Well ya see Joe, the atmospheric molecules are striking the outside skin of our spacecraft which because of friction...saaay...ya know guys, the very FIRST thing I'm gonna do when we land back on Earth is contact the guy who was in charge of picking this team and give HIM a piece of my mind about this dummy here, 'cause "comic relief" or not, I'm SO tired of explaining everything to this idiot!!!" -
YEAH? If ya think THAT'S bad here kernel, then you should've been around here that time Bob told us about the obscure and little known alternate title for the movie Refer Madness!!! Yeah, you guessed...he called it "Chained" instead of "CHAIN Smoking"...we just figured he has a thing for adjectives instead of nouns, THAT'S all! (...btw, welcome to the boards and stick around a while...and no don't let this sorry excuse for a joke scare ya off...SOMETIMES my jokes ARE actually kinda funny!)
-
Ooooh....you better be careful brandishing about that word "COLORIZED" around THESE here parts there, cowboy! (...haven't you figured out by now that with the general demographic around this town, you're asking to be tarred and feathered and run outta town on a rail???!!!...and trust me, I probably won't help stop 'em, EITHER!!!)

Wait! Destination MOON ya say, Fly?! Dude, if you think I was being hard on WB's technical staff about that whole "no air intake" thing in that BOGART test pilot flick last night, then just WAIT 'til I go off about how they have Dick Wesson here... ...play that clueless astronaut who once they get out in space didn't have a freakin' CLUE about the concept of WEIGHTLESSNESS up there!!! LOL (...actually though, it IS a pretty entertaining and REASONABLY well made movie) -
Geez Fly! It sure doesn't take you long to become dissatisfied around here, doesn't it! I mean, dude, they just showed YOUR favorite Bogart movie just LAST NIGHT(yeah, the one where he's flyin' around in that jet airplane that has NO AIR INTAKE on it), and yet less than 24 hours later, here ya are AGAIN gripin' about TCM's schedule!!! (...man, I tell ya, some folks suuuuure have short memories, don't they???!!!) LOL
-
>OK, you noticed this "air intake" problem. I have no idea what an "air intake" is. Wow finance! I gotta say I'm somewhat shocked to find you apparently fall into that category of individuals(sorry any ladies out there reading this, but yes, percentage-wise it DOES tend to be of the "fairer sex") in this modern age who when asked how an automobile works would reply: "Hey, all I know is that I put the key in the ignition and it starts up!" **** (...btw ladies, you are now free to grab those pitchforks and torches and camp in front of my house if ya want...but PLEASE place the better lookin' of ya in the front row facing my abode!!!) ...continuing to **** here!

TCM is not doing right by other film genre fans...

Sans, my lovely one, do me a favor here and re-read this most elegantly written reply of yours to my earlier little cheeky post to you which I had hoped you would have found possessed at least a scintilla of wit. (...I'll wait a minute while you do this) Okay, now that you've drank in the sheer grammatical perfection of your prose, I'll ask you for just one more favor here, and THAT would be: Please(just for me) attempt to refrain from expressing in the future the thought that your command of this glorious but complicated language known as "English" could in ANY manner ever be found as "wanting"! (...and once again, if you're still not gettin' this here, but I think you really are, this was meant as a cheeky little "lefthanded" but entirely warmhearted compliment, which I HOPE you'll accept with a little wink of the eye and a little chuckle...like I'm about to do now) ...edit to follow... okay, NOW I see your " " down there, and so MAYBE you were just puttin' ME on here too, EH?! LOL Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 10, 2013 9:52 PM -
3 versions of "The Maltese Falcon" tonight (June 7, 2013)
Dargo2 replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
Most definitely on your second point here, TB. When you mentioned "western noir", a couple Dick Powell movies come to mind...Station West, and though not a "western" per se but a film depicting a similar 19th Century era, The Tall Target. -
Where in heck is the air intake on that "JA-3 experimental aircraft" that Bogie is flyin' around tonight in this flick Chain Lightning ??? 'Cause it's obviously supposed to be a turbine jet powered plane from the sound it's making and because no manned rocket powered winged aircraft, then OR now, could have near the range that Bogie's a/c was supposed to have here. What I'm thinkin' here is that the technical staff at Warner Brothers knew of the Bell X-2 ROCKET powered experimental plane and decided to make a mockup of it and use that in this movie. (...okay, okay...maybe I answered my own question here, huh) Btw...I LOVE Raymond Massey playing these "corporate magnate" types! Reminds me a little of his character in The Fountainhead, but a little nicer. Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 10, 2013 8:06 PM
