Yep, I advised Twink of this earlier, lavender. Btw, speakin' o' which, I've read very recently around here that a few folks dislike the Van Johnson/Judy Garland musical remake, but I gotta say after watching it last Christmas season when TCM showed it, I thought it was very well done and I enjoyed it a lot.

>LOL, I know the feeling, Dargo. One time I made the mistake of showin QUEST FOR FIRE to a girlfriend of mine, and she quickly became outraged by the way cavemen treated their women in the film. We had a big argument about it. I told her I wasn't a caveman and didn't support their type of dating habits. To me, this was sort of a comedy movie about how crude and stupid humans were in the old days. LOL Why FRED! You've NEVER mentioned before that you once dated Gloria Steinem!!!

Good point, TB. Yep, in just the few scenes I watched, she definitely steals the show, alright. BUT, then again, I suppose "stealing the show" from the likes of Glenn Ford probably isn't THAT hard to do, HUH?! (...sorry all you Glenn Ford fans out there, but while I don't necessarily DISlike Glenn, c'mon now, ya GOTTA admit the dude WAS always kinda bland, RIGHT???!!!) LOL

Or in a pinch, perhaps the Grant/Kerr remake, Twinkee? I've always thought both versions were pretty well done, though I know some might disagree with me. And, I think another film mentioned a few times already in this thread might be a good pick....The Apartment. as in a manner of speaking this one might provide a good measurement to gauge if both these potential love birds share a common sense of humor. Btw, I got a chuckle out of some of the picks "to stay away from" mentioned earlier. It reminded me of a first date I finally screwed up enough courage to ask this one girl in high school out who I had had a crush on for a few years.. I wanted to impress her with how "sophisticated" I was as an 18 y/o. and so I took her to go see the newly release They Shoot Horses, Don't They?. (...MAN, I'm tellin' ya...what a depressing, romantic-buzzkill of a movie THAT turned out to be!!!) LOL

I SEE A DARK STRANGER, a wonderful British film
Dargo2 replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
And we agree yet again, Fred! A beauty AND a great actress, to be sure. Every time I watch one of my favorites, "Colonel Blimp", I'm amazed that at such a young age, she very believably carries off the trick of playing 3 different characters in it. -

I agree, Fred. I also think this is a very entertaining movie with excellent acting which presents the ol' "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" aspect in regard to the seldom examined British/Irish relationship during WWII. (...but then again, ANY movie with the lovely Deborah is gonna be good, eh?!) -
Oh, that face, that fabulous face II - Post 1950's. Whose is it?

THAT'S it! Thanks lavender. I knew he was in one of those "Lucy" episodes, but I couldn't remember which one. -

Hal March...host of "The $64,000 Question". -
Probably not, Hibi. I think finance says he goes to that sweaty ol' Philly gym almost every single day, come rain, snow or shine, doesn't he?! And I just play tennis outdoors three times a week, all year around, here in beautiful and mostly sunny Sedona Arizona. (...and so, yeah, I'd say finance probably keeps that skinny little body of his in a little better trim than I do!) LOL

Film Noir Fridays: Can't Hardly Wait !

>Aint nuthin wrong with a few double negatives now and then. I'm sure some of those shady film noir characters used them from time to time. Now what are you talkin' about here, MissW. Why, Dan Duryea ALWAYS sounded just like Professor Henry Higgins in these kind of movies!!! (...good point, actually) -
Eeh! You're just lookin' at the "numbers" here, and THEY don't mean a THING! I mean, take ME for instance. I'm now 61, BUT I tell people I have the body of a 30 year old. Though of course, I DO have to admit that I often get in reply to that comment, "Well then, you better give it BACK to that 30 year old 'cause you're wrinklin' it up!" (...thank you Minnie Pearl, wherever you are, for that line)

Film Noir Fridays: Can't Hardly Wait !
Dargo2 replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
Yep, MissW. I'm lookin' forward to these films, also. However, much like the malapropism of, "I could care less", wouldn't the proper use of the phrase you're attempting to convey here be, "Can(not "can't") hardly wait"? (...sorry, didn't mean to come across like the SprocketMan here!) LOL -
Wow Joe, and here all this time I thought after they found Holden floatin' face down in that old broad's pool, Nancy went back to Jack Webb!
-
Yep, I have to admit I was "LOONIE" to give that all up!!!
-
LOL Yeah, but THIS all went to my head YEARS ago, Twink! (...just ask my wife, SHE'LL tell ya!)
-
>Conan has a late-night show on TBS, which is a sister channel of TCM. AND ironically, Conan has a SISTER that works at TNT CHANNEL! And so he has ALL the bases covered here! (...what's the chances, HUH?!)
-
Okay, so I said I'd report back to you folks about what the wife thinks of my proposal about all us "extremely handsome men in the world gettin' people to celebrate TWO of our birthdays a year instead of just one". Now, I THINK she's on board with this, but I'm not fully sure here. I mean, gettin' a response of, "Yeah...right." and a roll of the eyes skyward is STILL an affirmative reply to a question posed, isn't it?! (...oh, and Dothery...now WHY would ya wanna add an additional qualifier like the one you suggested here, HUH?!...I mean, look lady, don't ya think just gettin' the ol' ball rollin' on my and TCM's idea here might be hard ENOUGH without having all us "extremely handsome men in the world" havin' to jump through yet ANOTHER hoop???!!!)

>I wish there was a way to watch that show again. Okay Hibi. If you promise not to cry too much , here ya go! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7HdYjrQRAg (...interesting thing here though is that while the uploader of this YouTube video claims it was broadcast in 1956, there's a part in it where Jack says the Queen for a Day will get her own private screening of "Spartacus", which as we know wasn't released until 1960) -

LOL Good point, Rich! (...though WITHOUT Ted doin' that back in the day, would we have ever had the pleasure of watching Lucy doing her Vitameatavegamin commercial spoof of it?...maybe NOT, eh?!) -

Dargo2 replied to Kid Dabb's topic in General Discussions
Yeah Hibi, IN FACT I'm kind of surprised what with all these so-called "Reality Shows" on TV today that "spotlight" the kookiest and in many cases the most forlorn people in our society, that some "enterprising" TV exec hasn't resurrected the concept of this program by now! (...I mean, isn't that "Wipeout" thing just an updated "Beat the Clock", and isn't "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent" just an updated "Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour"???) -

Oh, I see we're back on that whole "coastal elitist" thing again here, eh Fly? Yep, you MUST BE spendin' a whole lot o' time lately hangin' around with Jake, alright! LOL (...LOOK my friend, these kinds of lists never REALLY mean a darn thing, ya know...as somebody mentioned earlier, always remember to take this stuff with that proverbial grain of salt and it'll digest better)
