  1. Hey Fly! I just GOTTA ask here... Have you been hangin' around Jake a lot lately???? (...and IF ya have, how's the weather been there in "The Heartland" recently?..I hear it's not so good...a lot of those twisters I hear!!!) Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 4, 2013 9:38 AM
  2. So stayton, I guess you haven't heard. TCM is trying out a new approach. They're going to go with a whole new concept and start spotlighting actresses that look like Anna Lee!!! (...btw...Virginia here...no relation to Jerry, I presume!) Edited by: Dargo2 on Jun 4, 2013 9:29 AM
  3. Unless I've somehow missed it on this list... WHAT?! No love for "The Big Bang Theory"???? (...c'mon now...just the stuff ALONE that comes out of Jim Parsons' mouth as the character Sheldon, should've placed THIS show around 20th on this seemingly random and haphazard list!!!)
  4. Stella Dallas 1925 - Silent and first version with Belle Bennett in the title role. ...12 years later... Stella Dallas 1937 - Sound remake of silent version(but then again, this was standard practice after Jolson said "You ain't heard nothin' yet!" and the public responded with approval: see "Singin' in the Rain" for further details ) starring Barbara Stanwyck in the title role. ...53 years later... Stella 1990 - Schmaltzy and somewhat anachronistic version starring Bette Midler in the title role.
  5. Speakin' o' Tab in the desert here, Joe... A few months back, my wife and I saw Tab and Joyce DeWitt perform A.R.Gurney's play "Love Letters" at the Mary Fisher Theater here in Sedona AZ. And I gotta tell ya, for an 81 y/o dude, Tab is STILL lookin' mighty fit and soundin' great!
  6. Btw folks, I was just wonderin' about somethin' here. You know how I(and Sepiatone and a few others around here) always do that whole uppercase thing with certain words whenever we wanna emphasize or "punch" certain words in a sentence? Well, I was JUST wonderin' here if THIS might be considered a case of "Ham Correspondence"??? (...oh, and yeah...would putting all those question marks in a row like that be considered doin' this TOO???)
  7. >Maybe this'll lighten the mood. Thirty second, virus free (insofar as I know) youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9KyBdPeKHg(A clip of a truly mesmerizing line read- SFW, nothing dirty etc.) **** here! Now that WAS hilarious, Addison! Yep, Ryan's line reading there IS probably the worst I've ever seen. (...ahh, but then again, maybe we should give Ryan a pass here, eh?!...I mean by THIS time in his career, the freakin' moron was probably snortin' a Grand's worth of coke up his nose every single day, and thus in that state, he probably didn't realize how truly bad his acting had become by then!!!)
  8. Yep, I also doubt Mr.Napier is ever going to get his own "day" here at TCM. His roles where just too small in most films in order for have them spotlighted, I would say. (...btw Phil...LOVE your house situated near Mt. Rushmore...but then again I've always been a sucker for that Mid-Century Modern look, ya know!) (...oh, AND btw...welcome to the boards here!)
  9. Nope, I'm pretty sure that that's not Ronald Reagan in that underwear ad down there. AND, I'm ALSO pretty sure that that's not George Armstrong Custer in that Arrow Shirt ad down there EITHER!!! (...sorry...just couldn't resist doin' that old "Custer/Arrow Shirt" joke here, THAT'S all!) LOL
  10. Yep Kev, the answer to both of your questions would be, "Yes". (...though you STILL brought up some valid points here, to be sure)
  11. Oh, I don't know, James. It seems to me that for Kirk to voluntarily take the place of the condemned to hang Lancaster in 1959's The Devil's Disciple, AND for Burt's willingness to drop the clergy as his line of work in order to save Kirk's behind later on in that flick...well, I think there had to AT LEAST be just a LITTLE "bromance" goin' on 'tween the two of 'em, wouldn't ya say?! (...forgot about THAT movie, didn't ya)
  12. Au Contraire, Joe. Least we forget the Lancaster/Douglas "bromance" which predates this one by at least a decade?
  13. Question here: Does anyone know if the estates of McQueen and Newman are still arguing over the billing on this turkey??? (...OR did that whole "Steve's name on the upper-right and Paul's on the lower-left" thing on the titles work to soothe all those big egos once and for all???) LOL
  14. >Yes, it's Avery Schreiber. You may remember him from one of the dumbest sitcoms ever. "My Mother, The Car". Actually Miles, I would remember him more as part of the comedy team of (Jack)Burns and Schreiber. (..."Know what I mean?"..."Yeah!"...HUH?"..."Yeah!"..."HUH?"..."YES!!!")
  15. Now Hibi! Have you EVER known ME to "make this stuff up as I go" 'round here??? (...yeah...I'm pullin' your leg)
  16. Are ya talkin' about Vincent Price here, Dark? 'Cause if ya are, yeah, he's been mentioned a few times already in this baby...though maybe you're talkin' about some other "Vinny". BUT, if ya are, I DO have to say I believe nobody has yet mentioned Price's turn as the prosecutor in Leave Her to Heaven. Talk about bein' over-the-top in that closing courtroom scene!!! Have to say though that I once met Mr. Price a few years before his death while attending a screening of Champagne for Caesar at the Director Guilds Theater in L.A.. I had loved this spoof of early television since I first saw it as a kid on TV. Afterward, I made sure I mentioned to Mr. Price how much I loved his over-the-top performance in this film, and about how when I'd tell people not familiar with it how funny he was in it, how they would become incredulous because they only knew him from his horror films.
  17. Well, OF COURSE he did! (...'cause word is Sammy was not ONLY a thoughtful soul, BUT because his cousin Vito in efforts to "go legit" owned large shares of FTD too!!!)
  18. >A side bit to the McGuire sisters aways back on this thread. Funny about Phyllis' mobster boyfriend as they all came from a very religious family. Now, what the heck is so funny about THAT, Hibi??? I mean, word is Sammy went to Mass every Sunday like most all "good" Italian Catholic mobsters did back then!!! (...and of course the day after he'd order a .22 bullet delivered to the back of head of people like Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianni...I mean, how ELSE is one to receive "absolution" for their deeds, HUH???!!!) ****
  19. All very true, Sepia. However, I'm sure you've noticed that the "Celebrity" versions of the show much more often than not "showcase" how utterly clueless most celebs are? Well, at least when it comes to this "mindless trivia", anyway. And, this seems to include most of the politicos and many of the news people that venture onto the program, also. AND, this is EVEN after they dumb-down the questions for these bozos!!! (...and thus creating the opportunity for all those reoccurring SNL skits a while back where Will Farrell is channeling Alex, and where some of the funniest lines were delivered by Darrell Hammond doing his Sean Connery impression with lines such as, "I'll take 'Swords' for 200, Alex!", and Will/Alex replying with, "That would 'S-Words' for 200, Sean!") **** here!!!
  20. >The study of trivia is a useless enterprise, unless you want to make money out of trivia, then you need to be lucky-- the right person with the right answers at the right time. ...and the right categories! WHICH reminds me of THIS, Char ...
  21. Yeah, I saw that "Rovers" typo o' mine and corrected it. And yeah, I know my Doors music, too! (...but evidently my Mr. Mojo wasn't Risin' enough when I hit that "o" instead of that "i" as I typed out Johnny's last name, huh!)
  22. >When the music's over..........turn out the lights ! Okay then... There's a man who leads a life of danger To everyone he meets he stays a STRANGER With EVERY move he makes another CHANCE he takes Odds are he WON'T live to see tomorrow Secret AGENT MAN, secret AGENT MAN They've given you a number and taken AWAY your name (...well, I DID say earlier I would be more than happy to sing that Johnny Rivers song, didn't I???) Now heuriger my dear, if you'd be so kind to show me where that lightswitch is located, I'll now complete your request!!!)
  23. Hey Evenjob! Just wanna say welcome to the boards. In just your first three posts around here, I can already tell you're one who can entertainingly express your opinions about films. Cheers!
