  1. So, I guess you folks haven't heard that despite his many denials, the Mankster has been spotted flying black helicopters for the government. AND, that this has been goin' on for some time now! (...and thus how Ben's reputation has been sullied)
  2. >Just read that Margaret Thatcher passed, too. (Not that that has anything to do with AF.) Yep, the Iron Lady never came close to lookin' as hot in a one-piece bathing suit as Annette did, alright! And yet another little bit of our collective childhood passes. (...RIP Annette)
  3. I agree, Sepia. However as we might recall, this whole line of conversation stemmed from James mentioning that his Italian wife thought Rossano Brazzi's philandering character in Summertime was "too stereotypical of Italian men" of the time, to which I believe your mentioning of the "Catholic" aspect in both Tracy's real life and Brazzi's character in the film plays a major part in explaining. You see, while the whole "stigma" of divorce was indeed prevalent among those of many faiths up until fairly recently, it was especially abhorrent to cultures with a predominantly Catholic population such as in Italy of that time, and thus borne the "stereotype" of the Italian couple who live apart and are married in name only.
  4. Back in high school...ahem...excuse me...WAY back in high school, my Drafting class teacher looked exactly like Alan Ladd. In fact, I once told him that and he admitted that he did occasionally have people walk up to him and tell him that. Of course from then of out, every once in a while when he'd walk past my drafting board, I would jokingly call out, "SHANE! COME BACK, SHANE!", to which he would just turn around smile in return. Well, that is UNTIL one day he told me that that wasn't funny anymore, so quit it! (...yep, I was the class clown back...ahem...WAY back then alright...no surprise THERE, huh!)
  5. >(I know most people out there have seen SLIH but do you remember him in it?) Uh huh, yep, I remember him in that flick. He's in one of the clever little inside jokes in the film. He plays the character Johnny Paradise, one of Little Bonaparte's (Nehemiah Persoff) henchmen, who is doing George Raft's signature coin-tossing thing just as Spats Colombo(George himself) walks by him, grabs the coin in mid-air and says, "Where'd ya pick up that cheap trick?!".
  6. Hey TB! I didn't see Some Like It Hot ANYWHERE on these lists! Are you absolutely sure you didn't overlook THAT one??? Aah, but then again I suppose, even if ya DID, it's really no big deal, of course. (...I mean...ahem..."nobody's perfect", ya know!) LOL
  7. LOL WELL, when ya put it THAT way, I suppose it all makes sense now, huh. (...though I had NO idea that Cher was Japanese...maybe a "Gypsy, Tramp or Thief", but certainly not Japanese!!!)
  8. Eeh, I suppose she was somewhat adequate, but sorry, I wasn't as impressed with her "knowledge" or her delivery of that knowledge, or how she interacted with Bob as you seem to be, finance. (...and what was with that whole "NO, you're right!" thing she responded to Bob with a number of times last night after he made a comment, HUH?!...I was always under the impression that if one is going to agree with a comment, the response is supposed to be somethin' like, "YES, you're right!")
  9. Joe, your picture of a very young Miss Loy posing here is reminding me of a sad but eventually much happier ending tale of the statue she also once posed for in her youth and which was located in front of Venice(CA) High School for many years. And now thanks to a great volunteering effort by a number of SoCal's residents a few years ago, has been re-created and now once again proudly stands in front of that school. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/04/venice-myrna-loy.html
  10. >Practically every scene in Bringing Up Baby , Practically every scene in Arsenic and Old Lace , especially Cary Grant's facial expressions when he's bound in the chair. Lavender, speaking of Cary's facial expressions...How about that look of astonishment he gets on his face and the way he glides sideways with the elevator door closing the first time he spots his "dead wife" Irene Dunne walking through the hotel lobby while on his honeymoon in My Favorite Wife ?! That one gets me every time too.
  11. What's amazing to me, and even inspiring, is how after the extreme physical limitations he suffered from his battles with cancer these few years of his life, Roger soldiered on with his work almost to the very end. (...rest in peace, Mr. Ebert)
  12. There's no witty dialogue in it, in fact there's no dialogue whatsoever in it, but as many times as I've watched it and thus even already knowing every little movement to come, I'm always doubled over in laughter every single time I watch Groucho and Harpo in the mirror scene of Duck Soup. (...yep, that's the first thing that came to my mind here)
  13. Actually Hibi, here's the REAL story about this whole Sammy/Larry connection. Remember when Frank and Peter had their falling out? Well, when the Pack were looking for another Brit to replace Peter(there was a rule that said there had to be at least one), Sammy, while not being the "Chairman of the Board", WAS in fact the Chair of the "New Membership Committee", and after Larry submitted his application and during the whole interview process, a lasting friendship was born! Now, you may ask why Larry was never formally inducted into that hallowed group. Well, word is that Joey Bishop put the kibosh on that whole thing(yeah, evidently he had more pull than ya thought here, huh!), but this has never been substantiated. The "theory" is that Joey was using any means possible to get Regis Philbin in. At least that's the story I'VE heard anyway. (...nah, not really of course)
  14. >I always thought Jess Barker was a really movie-star-looking guy. He certainly didn't get very far in his career. What are TALKIN' about here, Dothery?! Maybe you've forgotten this, but this guy would go on to be SO popular on TV, that he'd be the 'cause for kids throughout the land to wish to give their right arm for a coonskin cap!!! (...oh...wait...you said "Jess Barker" here, didn't ya...sorry...never mind)
  15. >Dargo2 , How about Barbara Billingsley as a cross between Marjorie Lord and Gene Tierney? Hmmmm...ya know Mr.R, Mrs. Cleaver's sexy overbite DOES kinda lend some validity to your suggestion here, doesn't it?! (...but just barely)
  16. >Or, the Senior Citizen in Florida who keeps rolling down the wrong way on a one way street, and says it's not a problem, for the other drivers can certainly see her coming... Reminds me of the old joke about the drunk who was driving the wrong way down a one-way street. When the cop finally pulls him over and asks, "Didn't you see all those arrows pointed at you?", the drunk responds, "ARROWS?! Heck Ossifer, I didn't even see any INDIANS!"
  17. Eeh! Don't let him fool ya here, Tom! Word outta Philadelphia is that this ONLY happens when he's doin' that whole cornrow thing with his hair, AND when Bolero is playin' over the gym's muzak system! (...other than that, it's said he slightly resembles Bo Hopkins!!!)
  18. I don't know if I've ever mentioned this to ya before finance, but...YOU are a MENTAL case!!!
  19. >HA, Sepiatone! >And I wouldn't really consider Teladega Nights as being "art". >But then, if you aren't from NASCAR-land, it does seem foreign. LOL Yeah, and where one can occasional overhear the question: "You mean cars can turn to the right TOO???"
  20. >But Maggie did receive a best newcomer award. Now ain't it good to know that Maggie didn't end up like Milli Vanilli, James?!
  21. >What I hate is that only "Hamlet" is closed captioned. I can't handle Elizabethan-era English late at night without captions! Yeah, well, the only problem with THAT is that it all depends upon who the guy is that's translating The Bard's prose into modern English, ya see! Yep, I say this 'cause I was once watchin' a closed captioned version of Julius Caesar and when the part came up in the movie where Cassius says, "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves", whoever it was that was writin' the closed caption wrote, "Dude, you make your own bed and lie in it!"!!! (...and I don't about YOU, but THAT just didn't have the same ring to it, if ya ask ME!!!)
  22. "To the gal I knew back when...Happy Birthday, Doris!"
  23. >Shakespeare meets a Method actor: Ya know Fred, instead of that TZ scene in which Burt gives that great impression of Brando, I was expecting your link was gonna be this one here... (..."Friends, Romans, STELLLLAAAAH...oh STELLLLAAAAH!!!!")
  24. Last night on Letterman's show, Regis made an offhanded remark to Dave about Brian Williams secretly wanting to replace Letterman, to which Dave replied that he thought the NBC newsman would actually be very good replacement for him. If you've ever caught Williams on Dave's show, then you probably know he IS pretty quick with the funny off-the-cuff retorts back to Dave, and often makes it seem as if his "first love" is comedy, not news.
