Yep, you've got him, Rich! The other "Dick Curtis", and not to be confused with the comedian of the same name who is maybe best remembered as the game show host on one the funniest "Dick Van Dyke Show" episodes ever titled "Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth".
(...the one where Laura inadvertently spills the beans on nationwide TV that Alan Brady wears a toupee...you remember the line she says when Alan asks her what he's now going to do all those toupees..."Well, there must be some needy bald people!") LOL
-
Okay Fred, good idea.
This actor not only often played the heavy in many a western, but was also featured in a few Three Stooges shorts...one of 'em being their take on the leaders of the Axis Powers.
-
>I find DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS to be infinitely superior to the bore-fest that is THE ROBE.
AND, we have our first anagram of the day, ladies and gentlemen!!!

-
>Also, did Susan Hayward smoke?
Well, this movie was made in the '50s, RIGHT?!
Then I'm thinkin' Susan probably had a pack of Chesterfields and a Zippo(not to be confused with one of the Marx Bros
) sittin' in her purse out there in the desert of Utah TOO!(...'cause they ALL smoked back then, ya know!)
-
So, are ya waitin' for others to chine in here with their guesses then, Fred?
-
Wow! Funny you mentioned that about The Guns of Navarone here, dp! Ya see I've always fallen asleep during that movie MYSELF!!!
(...nah, not really...but anyone who's a real "Dick Van Dyke Show" fan will get my little "joke' here)

-
Yep, that's one of my all-time favorite Westerns too, nex!
I could never understand why this Wyler/Peck co-production is seldom cited by movie critics as one of the greats of that genre. I thought Wyler's direction was excellent, and especially always liked the choice he made to show the fistfight scene between Peck and Heston in the far background.
(...and don't even get me started on Jerone Moross' great opening credits score!)
-
Well, for THAT matter, even this straight male here always thought he had "it", dp.
And "it" of course was one of those faces that, as they say, "the camera loves"...not to mention that distinctive baritone voice of his. -
OH yeah, dp. You might remember this PSA which ran for a while in the mid-'80s....
-
GOOD! At least I've FIRST gotten past the guy who knows almost EVERY old actor and actress' name around here anyway!!!

-
Yep, another good example of Peck's abilities here with the mentioning of Roman Holiday, James. A "wooden" actor wouldn't have had the ability to convey the broken heart that his character shows at the end of this film.
And ya know, while Peck usually played the stalwart hero type in most of his films, the few times he did play some sort of villain or less than admirable type(I'm thinkin' of Lust in the Dust...OOPS, I mean Duel in the Sun here
), I thought he did pretty well in that, too. -
Good idea, Fred. And so, how's 'bout THIS guy here?...
-
Hmmmm...and NOW I'm wonderin' IF it's JUST a coincidence here that Fred posted somethin' right AFTER finance mentioned somethin' about bein' "stuck in the past"????
LOL
(...sorry Fred, I just couldn't resist...you know I love ya, RIGHT?!)

-
LOL
Ummmm...will ya give me three guesses here, ol' buddy??!

-
Oh, and THIS reminds me here, nex...if ya DO decide to stick around, you will ALSO probably soon discover that our friend "finance" here has a great sense o' humor and is also actually pretty knowledgeable about classic films TOO....BUT is ALSO highly prone to find ANY excuse that he can(witness this whole "bathroom break" thing here) to keep from further elaborating or expanding upon some otherwise insightful premise which he may feel the need to share!!!
LOL

-
nex, chill a minute here, dude. Now, I fully realize that you're new around these here parts and so you're maybe not used to people with a common interest in classic films disagreeing with you about your favorite actor and/or actress. However, while some of 'em may occasionally be, let us say, "less than diplomatic" when expressing an opinion that may run counter to yours and such as Andy has here, I think if ya stick around for a while you'll soon come to realize that most all of the TCM.com "Regulars", yep including Andy, are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the topic of classic cinema, and that in the main it'll be worth your time to continue expressing your opinions at this website, and even IF that occasional "less than diplomatic" response happened to come your way.
(...oh, and btw...cheers and welcome to the boards)
-
LOL
Yep fred, there's another "flash from the commercial past" there, alright!
-
Hmmmm...now WHY is it I suddenly have a urge to go purchase a pack of Mr. Wrigley's gum here, Joe???

-
REALLY?! Wow, I would've SWORN that rosebette got it right here, Dothery!
(...okay, could it REALLY be "Jimmy Crack Corn" THEN?!)

-
Yeah, well, maybe THAT, and their "three-pack-a-day habit" maybe!
(...'cause I don't think Bogart was in that movie, was HE?!)

LOL
-
>Johnny Mack Brown
...and I don't care. My master's gone away.
(sorry, couldn't resist...and yeah rosebette, I think you're right)
-
Aaaah! So THAT explains the title of that old Shirley Booth movie, EH?!

-
Yep, absolutely one of the best and funniest nights ever on Carson's show alright, willbe! I remember watching this the very night it was first broadcast. Yep, maybe this one and the Ed Ames tomahawk throwing("Gee, I didn't know you were Jewish!") exhibition! LOL
And, don't forget the other big laugh Gobel received that night was the telling of his "war experiences" during WWII...
-
>Why not just hire a cigar store Indian and get it over with? (/snark)
Oooooh! LOL
Now Andy, while I suppose your less-than-subtle suggestion here that you think Greg's acting style generally veers toward the "wooden" variety, ya have to AT LEAST admit his performance in Twelve O'Clock High where that usual "oh so stoic" manner of his is used to great advantage, and that his later psychological crumbling in this film is excellently portrayed.
(...yep, c'mon now Andy ol' buddy, at least admit THAT here, won't ya?!)

Oh, that face, that fabulous face. Whose is it?
