>I was dreading the Threads
Yeah, I used to say the same thing TOO back when I had a bad tailor!
(...uh huh...SEE?!...and you thought Kyle's "Eleanor Parker/Powell" joke was bad, DIDN'T ya!!!)

-
Yep, and in fact it's comin' down pretty well again at this very moment, Char.
-
Sorry dark, but this LATEST picture here with the two dark lines is WAY beyond me, and I have NO idea who that is!!!
(...though somethin's tellin' me that Kid Dabb will even know THIS one...yep, he's THAT good, alright!!!)

-
>Yes. He and Sammy Jackson played the parts of government secret agents investigating arms running to the Confederacy during the Civil War. Part of their cover was that Roy was an entertainer and Sammy was his manager. The lovely ladies were also in the show and each was the love interest of the two agents. And there was Indians too!
Oh yeah, NOW I remember!
They were all set to get Elvis for this part until Col.Parker refused to allow it 'cause its premise wasn't loopy enough, RIGHT?!

-
Gotta say KD that that picture on the poster looks more like Eric "Rawhide" and "Queen of Outer Space" Fleming than it does Roy.
-
So, he was basically doin' a Robert "James West" Conrad sorta thing in that flick, eh dark?
(...sounds like it might be good TCM Friday Night fare)
-
Yep, that's him alright, KD! So, I'll bet you knew this one all along, didn't ya!

-
"Motorcycle for pleasure", ya say?
McQueen ???
No, that can't be it. You said he isn't known as an actor. And besides, "The King of Cool" rode motorcycles in competition and not just for pleasure.
(...man, this IS a tough one, alright!)
-
No, actually I hadn't gone back to the Novak thread since I posted that little joke about "Viagra". Pretty weird coincidence that we'd both be bringing up Kilgallen's name here, huh!
(...btw, for that "jaundiced eye" problem that darkblue said ya have in that thread, have you considered maybe tryin' to find some of Fred's "Eyeviagra"?...that MIGHT work to remedy ya of this affliction, ya know!)

-
You didn't answer my question about the "Athlete" thing, dark.
-
Really, finance? Where was the other Kilgallen reference?
-
Yeah, but I THINK by the end of that flick, doesn't ol' Chuck say somethin' like..."I now love my mail-order bride SO much that they'll have to pry her from my cold dead hands!"
(...well, it was SOMETHIN' like that anyway, RIGHT?!)
-
Wow! Gotta say there sure seems a lot of contractions in your clue here, dark ol' buddy!
So, am I correct in assuming that MAYBE because the person in question "isn't known as an actor, but is very very famous", that he MIGHT be known more for being in the field of Athletics?
(...man, I'm startin' to feel like Arlene Francis and Dorothy Kilgallen are sittin' on each side o' me here!!!)

-
Yep, Miles. I'd say there's a slight resemblance between Bud and Mr.Mander there.
However, and don't ask me why, but speakin' of Bud and Lou's famous baseball routine, somehow Bud always reminded me of Leo Durocher.
(...and like I said, don't ask me why...he just always did, that's all)
-
Are you SURE???
I thought Marlowe was on FIRST! And of course THAT leaves Carlson on second!
(...yep, I don't know...THIRD BASE!!!)
-
WAIT! Am I seein' one of my favorite actors here? Gene Hackman?
-
Jeff Bridges, maybe?
-
Well actually, I thought the whole point of Viagra is that once it kicks in, it doesn't matter WHAT ya see or HOW MUCH of what ya see turns ya on!
(...yep, the whole "vision thing" all kinda beside the point, isn't IT?!)
-
Yep, Miles. You're not the only one here. I too would often confuse the two of 'em, and maybe not only because of their similar appearance, but because their careers spanned about the same time, they often seemed to play the second male lead roles, and reached B-List status at most.
-
Looks like Miles beat me to it here.
-
Nope, not Fraiser's dad, Hibi.
That tough lookin' dude would be actor Morgan Woodward, who you might remember as being especially menacing as "Boss Godfrey" in Cool Hand Luke.
-
"Eyeviagra"?!!!
Eye VEY!
(...oops..I meant, Oy vey!)

-
Ahem...excuse me here TB, but I do believe you left out one option in your question here...and THAT would being a "Comedy Cavalcade"!
(...and of which as I'm sure you know, I often personally view TCM's forums as being!!!)

-
NOT necessarily, dark! I mean, there ARE some older folks who maybe can't see very well anymore 'cause their eyelids are so saggy, and so they have that taken care of!
Not to mention that whole "deviated septum" thing, so they opt for that cute little upturned "Nose Number 2" in the doctor's Rhinoplasty Catalogue.
(...well, they can AT LEAST always use those as the excuse for these procedures anyway, ya know)

Reasonable points made here, WhyaDuck. Yep, I watched it again last week when TCM showed it, and enjoyed watching it.
I think those who presently might have complaints or reservations about its receiving the "Best Picture" Oscar for 1956 probably have the advantage of hindsight, especially considering that now days a film made that same year, John Ford's The Searchers, and a film which didn't receive a single nomination, is presently viewed as not only one of the greatest Westerns ever made, but one of best ever made regardless of genre.
This might also pertain to the Oscar winner of 1952, and when another movie which now perhaps seems "dated", DeMille's The Greatest Show on Earth won "Best Picture", and while a movie presently recognized by many sources as one of the "best films ever made", Singin' in the Rain, wasn't even nominated in that category.
