Yeah, you did mention that in the '22 version, Michael isn't killed by Rupert when he's caught in flagrante with Michael's beloved, but instead is killed in a sword fight against Rudolf.
I think I'd like the latter versions' plotline better, however.
(...I mean how many sword fights does a hero have to be in anyway, eh?!)

Here ya go, ML11. And yeah, I think you're right.
-
LOL
Yeah, that's true, VX. BUT, I'll bet ya didn't know The Bard came THIS close instead to ending all his plays with a line that Porky Pig would make famous about 400 years later!!!
-
Yeah...I know, I know.
He never wrote ANY car chases into his plays, huh!
(...all it ever is, is "Talk, Talk, Talk"!!!)
LOL

Ahem...ya know movielover11, I THINK it might be time for you to brush up your Shakespeare. 'Cause maybe you don't know this, but BOY the women you will wow!

Seeing as how the '37 version of "Zenda" has always been my favorite Swashbuckler, Tom, do you know if TCM has ever shown the '22 version? 'Cause I'd love to see it shown on the Silent Sundays series.
Btw, I've just returned from the IMDb website and the "Zenda" page there because I wanted revisit what I've always thought to be some of the best dialogue in any Swashbuckler ever. And sure enough while reading the "memorable quote" page, I was again reminded of what great dialogue it is.
Take just one example here, for instance:
Rupert of Hentzau: "I see you want to let the drawbridge down. I just killed a man for that."
Rudolph Rassendyll: "An unarmed man, of course."
Rupert of Hentzau: "Of course!"
-
LOL
OR I'll bet for THAT matter, every time you log into TCM.com's message boards, eh dpompper?!

(...and Lord knows I do MY best to represent the latter of those here!)
-
Yes, but I believe the technical term for this back in the heyday of the Short Subject One-Reel Comedies was..."Making the alligator, monkey or dog look like it was talking".

(...that's kinda what you were referring to here, wasn't it Sepia?)
-
So, in OTHER words it appears Richard made so many enemies during his lifetime in Jolly Ole Blighty that his descendants figured it MIGHT be best to leave town ASAP, eh MissW?!

-
That'd be a decent alternative, I suppose.
(...though of course they'd have to work the word "scoliosis" into the lyrics somehow!")

-
Sounds good, Fred.
Tell ya what! The next time I visit my old stompin' grounds of L.A., I'll be sure to head over to the Pico-Union area of town and see if I can catch this one at one of the cinemas there!

(...I mean if Sturges can make a half-way decent remake of "Seven Samurai" usin' a bunch of round-eyes like Brynner and McQueen, then how bad can THIS one be, HUH?!)

Okay Fred, if you're gonna go on here and now tell me that this baby stars Clint Jong-il, Lee Sung-Cleef AND Eli Yung-Wallach, then I'll KNOW you're puttin' me on here AND that you've mastered the art of Photoshopping!!!

(...okay, no...I haven't heard of this one...but then again, Korean cinema isn't exactly my forte)
-
Would that be the Kansas City Chiefs after winning Super Bowl IV ?
-
Yeah Liam, and with Joni Mitchell singing over the opening credits, "They paved over me and put in a parking lot", I presume???

-
"She's back! She's BACK!"
No, this isn't a quote from any movie I know, it's my of sayin' "Welcome back", Char!
(...so where ya been?)
-
And I was thinkin' more a young Michael Rennie.
(...but I don't think either one of us is correct, twinkeee)
-
Hmmm...well I could be wrong here Bild, but as I recall on at least two of those plays Kaepernick was in the backfield alone, and thus allowing the Ravens' Defense the knowledge that the plays were going to be passing plays.
I also recall the Niner's having great success especially in the second half with there being two runningbacks in their backfield along with Kaepernick, gving him not only added blocking in case of a Ravens blitz, but also making the Ravens defense guess a little more in the possibilities of the coming play being a play-action pass, a hand-off to one of the halfbacks OR even a QB keeper, which of course Kaepernick is excellent at.

Willbe my friend, the reason I made the comment that I think this thread was doomed from the get-go here is that while Jake isn't out-and-out proselytizing with this thread, I felt he's coming pretty darn close, especially with his mentioning of what he apparently feels is the "good conservative values" aspect in his posting. Which, of course, will lead to just what you've seen here so far...a number of people SO FAR disagreeing with Jake and his opinion in a somewhat polite and civil manner.
However, I'm pretty sure you realize from witnessing past experience around here that the manner of conveying an opposite opinion to yours, Jake's and anyone else holding these opinions in these sorts of topics will almost assuredly degrade in manner to uglier methods, and from both "sides".
And thus, while you and Jake may prize your beliefs, once again I feel the manner in which Jake first presented his offering comes very close in violating the A.U.Ps of this website which stipulates restrictions against proselytizing one's beliefs in the realms of religion and politics. And once again, I'm pretty darn sure these sorts of "restrictions" are in place here because those sorts of topics DO tend to get people "riled up".
-
Oh, and btw, with Jake pressing his brand of Theology AND Politics right from the ol' get-go here, I give this thread a lifespan of MAYBE 1 day TOPS!!!
LOL
(...but ya suuuuure gotta admire folks who believe so heartedly in their opinions, don't ya...naaah, actually ya DON'T, 'cause I'VE always thought that THE most dangerous people on this planet ARE those folks who actually believe their own dogma...aah, but maybe that's just me)
-
Ahem...excuse me here Fred, but I believe you misread BFSR's post there. As I read it, he wasn't referring to himself. but instead was referring to the corporate entities in our country which he claimed "don't like Americans and farmers".

AND, let us not forget that stirring rendition of "America, The Beautiful" performed by Jennifer Hudson and the choir of kids from New Town CT, just before Alicia sang our National Anthem.
It could have only been my impression, but I thought a few of Jennifer's riffs channeled another great and memorable rendition of that song done by the incomparable Ray Charles.

Watched it, loved it...though being from the West Coast(and from a city that doesn't have a NFL team anymore because of "That Woman"..guess which city I'm talkin' about here!
), I was rootin' for the team that didn't quite finish their comeback. And because you folks here who haven't a football bone in your body missed watching it, you ALSO missed a few(but JUST a few) decent SB commercials this year, and of which the following Audi car commercial I found the best of the lot....

However twinkeee, I don't know if this would necessarily apply to Joyce here. I mean I don't think she was all THAT hard on the ol' eyes, wouldn't ya say?!...

Oh, that face, that fabulous face II - Post 1950's. Whose is it?
