  2. Well HECK fred, they're ALREADY doin' THAT with films made in the '30s, '40s, and '50s around here, dude! (...in OTHER words, as a few others have already stated in this thread, there was a lot of "junk" made in THOSE decades TOO which is constantly shown on TCM...NOT that I personally can't get into "junk movies" now and then myself, you understand!)
  3. Hmmmm..funny Iz, but I THINK I've heard that somewhere before! (...in other words, check out my post a little ways down there, ol' buddy) ;-)
  4. Wow Lori. I gotta say you REALLY "have it bad" for this "bad boy"(type), don't cha?! Tell me somethin' here...Are there ANY "good boy" types that pluck even a single string in that heart o' yours??? (...sorry, but I just HAD to ask this here...and I certainly didn't mean to imply at all with this question that John Garfield wasn't a great actor, but ooooohhh-WEEEE are you infatuated here or WHAT?!)
  5. Yep Fred, you're probably right about that. (...and, I DO remember Ted Baxter proudly boasting that HIS career ALL started at a 5,000 watt radio station in Fresno California!!!) ;-)
  6. VX wrote: "Fred, there are two sides to everything." ----- Au contraire, VX!!!...well, AT LEAST not according to all the 30 second political ads were about to be inundated with on our TV set this election year, anyway!!! ;-) LOL!!! (...sorry, I just couldn't resist...and NOW back to the Captain and Tennille...err...I MEAN. Captain FROM Castile)
  7. Actually Sepia, it wasn't a syndication sort of thing which brought Wolfman Jack this national recognition, it was the following bit of info here which did: (from Wikipedia: "Workman Jack"...) In 1963, Robert Weston Smith, aka "Wolfman Jack", took his act to the border when the Inter-American Radio Advertising's Ramon Bosquez hired him and sent him to the studio and transmitter site of [XERF-AM|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XERF-AM|XERF-AM] at [Ciudad Acuña|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciudad_Acu%C3%B1a|Ciudad Acuña] in Mexico, a station whose high-powered [border blaster|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_blaster|Border blaster] signal could be picked up across much of the United States. In an interview with writer [Tom Miller|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Miller_(travel_writer)|Tom Miller (travel writer)], Smith described the reach of the XERF signal: "We had the most powerful signal in North America. Birds dropped dead when they flew too close to the tower. A car driving from New York to L.A. would never lose the station. Most of the border stations broadcast at 250,000 watts, five times the U.S. limit, meaning that their signals were picked up all over North America, and at night as far away as Europe and the Soviet Union. ----- I remember listening to the Wolfman LOUD AND CLEAR on that Mexican border "pirate" radio station back then as a young teen in the L.A. area.
  8. Well Fred, seein' as how you've revived your old thread here, I'll say that while it's been a few years since I've seen this film, I DO remember thinking that the aerial footage is absolutely superb, especially as you mention that this film's production was decades before any of this present CGI format has come about. But, I also remember that while I usually like to watch all those "War Room" sequences in movies such as this, I remember I found much of the rest of the film that takes place on the ground a little lacking in dramatic scope. And btw, in response to hamradio's question at the bottom of this old reply of his in this thread... ----- hamradio wrote: About Goering acting like a child... - BruceGhent If the producers knew back then what we know today, I wonder should we be thankful they didn't show Hitler acting like a *girl!* This is no joke, read this site below about how the "Hitler monster" was created. I guess Hermann Goering was in good company. An excerpt from "The Mind of Adolf Hitler Part II" - Hollywood should make this into a movie. "Klara obviously adored and passionately loved, pampered and shamelessly spoiled her little darling Adolf. Nothing was too good for her little boy! She was indulgent of his every whim (Kubizek). Finally, after the death of at least 3 infants she had her own sweet little baby doll who she could love, kiss and hug, and who would cuddle and love her back. Adolf, however, not only looked like her, she attired him accordingly. Klara delighted in dressing him in frills, white stockings and dresses, and had pictures taken of him in his feminine finery. Adolf looked just like a sweet little girl." To verify Should the world cry or laugh? :| ----- Ham ol' boy, I think Mel Brooks pretty much answered your question here when he made "The Producers". The world should LAUGH at megalomaniacal monsters like that...it diminishes them in peoples eyes, ya see. AND, ya gotta do THAT as early and as often as possible, and BEFORE they grab any MORE friggin' power on their climb up. Waiting too long to do THAT is what ALWAYS gets mankind into trouble!
  9. THANKS, Dark. I'll be lookin' for it then. It's a pretty darn good movie, I think. Appears to be somewhat underrated in my estimation, too. (...and to all my fellow men out there...IF you've never watched "The Journey", then MY suggestion is that you DO...'cause while there may NOT be a whole heck of a lot of "action" in this sucker, it's about how we can ALL, both men AND women, become soooooo freakin' indoctrinated into a particular political mindset that we can OFTEN LOSE SIGHT of what is TRULY IMPORTANT IN LIFE!!!...oh, and it has Deborah Kerr lookin' mighty good in it TOO!)
  10. WHAT, Dark baby?! No love for ME after my VERY insightful explanation to you about the "wonders" of that two-timing muscle-headed Austrian's rise to short-lived power in the Golden State???? Why, I've NEVER been so hurt in my LIFE. What the heck does a guy have to do get any freakin' respect around here, HUH???!!! ;-)
  11. Btw, I HOPE you folks "know" that the ULTIMATE "Men's Movie" is of course "The Great Escape". And ya wanna know WHY?! 'Cause not ONLY is there "action" in that sucker, BUT it makes ya THINK a little TOO! Oh, and because it has McQueen(okay, it's actually stunt double Bud Ekins) tryin' to jump that barb wire fence on a TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLE!!! (...I almost forgot to mention that) ;-)
  12. Treading on pretty thin ice there, aren't ya Dark???!!! Though, I gotta admit you MIGHT have a point there...AND I thought it was pretty darn clever TOO!!! ;-) (...however, this ex-Californian's take on why that guy replaced Gray Davis was because Mr. Davis set himself up for his own fall, because Mr. Davis was soooooooo freakin' BOR-ing and sounded like a freakin' milktoast whenever he opened his mouth...and so, Arnold, having the "image" of a "real man's man" and his celebrity got enough of the freakin' know-nothings in my ex-state to vote for him...in order words, it had NOTHING to do with any party affiliation NOR what either of those jerks thought about the FREAKIN' ISSUES...and now, enough said on this matter...'cause I KNOW Michael the TCM Admin is now probably just DYIN' to lock this thread IF this goes any further in this direction...aren't ya Michael???!!!...HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!)
  13. Yep, and then of course there's also a bit of this particular storyline in "High Sierra", when Bogart's Roy Earle pays for the corrective surgery on John Leslie's (Velma) legs, and then later he becomes upset to find she's become engaged to another.
  14. Well, all I can say here is IF the definition of "insane" is: Doing the same thing over and over again but hoping for a different outcome", then I guess I'm ready for that proverbial "rubber room". (...'cause every time I tune into TCM's "The Essentials", I'm still hopin' they'll show the '39 version of "Destry Rides Again"!!!) ;-)
  15. Hmmmm...now I'm not sure why exactly here, BUT for some reason this thread is startin' to remind me of a certain line of dialogue the late Peter Graves says to that kid in an airliner cockpit in a certain spoof of disaster movies.... "So Joey. Do yo like to watch movies about gladiators?"!!! (...wait...oh yeah...NOW I know why!)
  16. Wow, gotta say here Joe that at first glance I thought you might've posted the wrong picture for the beautiful Marta Toren there, as I think in that picture she's almost a dead ringer for the beautiful Alida Valli. (...don't ya think so too?)
  17. How about Julie Harris in "The Haunting"? Is that house really haunted OR did Julie Harris' Nell go off the deep end? There's also a film made in 1965 titled "Brainstorm"(not to be confused with the last film Natalie Wood would make before her untimely death in 1981), and starring Jeffrey Hunter. In this one, Hunter slowly goes mad after setting up a revenge/murder of his paramour's (Anne Francis) wealthy and diabolical husband (Dana Andrews).
  18. Ya know folks, with Lazyking(the OP) mentioning of James Dean at the outset of this thread, I'm a bit surprised that no one immediately thought of or has yet mentioned the name of Richard Davalos in this thread, the actor who played Dean's brother in "East of Eden". (...that is unless I've overlooked it somewhere along the way here)
  19. OOOPS!!! Yeah, I meant "Robin"!!! (...NOW do ya see what those freakin' Disco balls can do to a guy???...trust me here, I was FINE before I got hooked on all that "Stayin' Alive" stuff back then and dancin' under those things!!!...yep, ya better lose that sucker before this all happens to YOU, Arturo!!!)
  20. Yeah maybe, Arturo. However, I still have to say after "American Graffiti" hit big, I always thought that that alone would or should have catapulted the guy into more starring roles in bigger budgeted films.
  21. How about Paul Le Mat, "John" the cool Deuce Coupe drivin' dude in "American Graffiti"? Heck, he was basically the lead in that film, and then pretty much nothin' after that...though he was pretty good a few years later as the hapless Melvin Dummar in "Melvin and Howard".
  22. Ya see?! YA SEE?! I just KNEW those friggin' spinning mirrored disco balls were givin' out some kinda weird radiation...but would ANYBODY listen to me back then???!!! (...RIP Barry)
  23. OOOOOH yeah! Joanne Dru! Great addition here, Jake! She had those cheekbones and that sexy as heck overbite that Gene Tierney also sported.
  24. Thanks Charlotte! But re the concern here...Didn't I once tell you that I'm "indestructible"???!!! ;-)
  25. Thanks, ugaarte! It's nice to see you still haven't gotten your hands on those "letters of transit" and are still hangin' around here too! ;-)
