Yep RED, my black with red interior Spyder is one little beauty alright, and never fails to garner attention whenever and whereever I drive it...and it's pretty darn small too, as you noted. You're also right that in a "worst case scenario", my chances of survival would be just about the same as young Mr. Dean's were.

Speakin' o' which, there might be some people who don't know here that Dean's passenger on that fateful day, German mechanic Rolf Wuetherich, actually survived that crash, but lived a much troubled life thereafter, becoming an severe alcoholic for the next 20 years of his life, and ironically enough dying behind the wheel of car while driving drunk in his native Germany.

  2. Yep, that's pretty much how it happened, alright.

I own a replica Porsche 550 Spyder mid-engine race/sports car, very similar to the one Dean was killed in. It weights all of 1300lbs. And so, whenever I drive that little baby around out there on the road, I make sure I drive it as defensively out there as I do when I'm riding my motorcycles.

(...'cause even though I'm now well over twice his age when he died, I don't particularly want to leave this world in the same manner as that kid did!)

  3. Gotta say Graham, of all the suggestions here so far, I think FilmGoddess' idea of showing made-for-TV movies and perhaps TV mini-series was by far the best. And while, yeah, it would be nice to watch "Naked City", "The Defenders", "Wanted: Dead or Alive", "Maverick" and the like, I don't think TCM would quite be the "correct" venue for 'em, as a few others have already said here.

  4. Charlotte, I really doubt Joe (mongo) views anyone who posts in his Candids2 thread as bein' an "interloper"

Nope! I've always gotten the impression he rather enjoys the "feedback" he receives in that terrific thread of his.

(...well, at least I HOPE SO anyway...'cause I've kidded around with him and have added what I feel might be some pertinent information to the pictures he posts over there more than a few times, and I've never gotten the slightest hint from him that he didn't appreciated it)

  5. Iz, there's really no reason for me to go to the archives in order to understand your point here.

Ya see, I've been hangin' out for almost 10 years now at a website geared toward a certain model of the Triumph Motorcycle line. in fact, at present I have well over 16,000 posts at that site.

Now, when I first became a member there, the policy was that in the "Lounge" forum, one could talk about anything under the sun, INCLUDING those two subjects which are known to often cause people to "flare up". You know which two those are, right?!

Well, that all went on for a couple of years UNTIL a few new members joined on and who couldn't debate an issue intelligently and without occasionally resorting to spewing epithets such as "traitor" and "un-American" and "eternally damned" at those who didn't agree with their stated opinions.

And so, because of THOSE mor..err...guys, that website's Admin changed the AUPs to say NO MORE!

And ya know what? That website is now thriving and gotten even larger and has increased its membership by about 10 fold since then.

And while SOME people may scream and holler somethin' to the effect, "Hey! That's just bein' Politically Correct!", I SAY, THANK GOD those mor..errr...those guys who couldn't debate intelligently and/or with modicum civility have pretty much now moved on to some other place where they can vent their freakin' little fears and hatred at a website which'll cater to that kinda crap!

(...bottom line once again...I know what a meant, my friend!) ;)

  6. Iz, I doubt one could actually contribute the majority of the reason why some people come and go as regulars to any website because to "arguments and flame wars". Ya see, after seeing this phenomenon happen at other websites, my guess is that some just become bored, while others will find another interest which they'll begin to concentrate upon, and then still others might find the time they've alloted to a website has become less due to other obligations in their lives.

And so, while I have seen these sorts of hurt feelings come about at websites and occasionally result in some people leaving for good, I really just think it the "natural progression of human nature" which results in people coming and going.

(...YEAH see...and IF ya's feel like makin' somethin' outta what I've just said here, I'll be waitin' OUTSIDE to "discuss" this FURTHER!!!!)

    LOL

    ;)

  7. Yep, I know what you're talkin' about, finance. Iverson, he of the great quick release of his basketball shot, making it hard to block...AND with a little bitty brain. Ya see Mr. Iverson, you "practice" in order to learn better how to play "TEAM freakin' BALL"!!!

(...and now back to that little ol' SoCal locale situated near the northern end of Topanga Canyon Blvd...yep Graham, ridden past the place may a time on my motorcycles when I still lived in now overly-congested "Los Hangle-lees")

  8. Yep finance! I'd say the chances of Kirk becoming one o' those "Mean Drunks" nobody wants to be around might be pretty good, huh!

And like I was sayin' earlier in this thread, I had a little "personal interaction" with the guy years ago at the airport, and while I don't know if the guy had already had a few that day, I can tell ya he wasn't exactly "Mr. Congenial" when I talked to 'em!

(...or for THAT matter, when I noticed some star-struck passers-by who'd walk up to him and who'd ask for his autograph...If I wasn't at work I swear I would've told the guy that THAT was part of bein' a freakin' "Movie Star", dude!...learn to LIVE with it, 'cause THAT'S why you make the Big Bucks...if ya DIDN'T want this, then ya SHOULD'VE stayed on the freakin' stage where NOBODY'll recognize that hole in your freakin' chin!!!)

  9. HEY now, HF!!! I'll have you know that I ONLY ever visit those porn sites which contain NOTHING BUT male/female scenes performing in the "approved missionary position"!!!!

(...try to paint ME with that broad brush o' yours there, WILL YA???!!!)

    LOL!!!

I happen to enjoy the footage....but I can agree it's not only silly but also that most of it ISN'T dancing at all, but Bolger being hoisted aloft and flown about on wires, and then bouncing back and forth against the rubber fence posts, first forward then with the film running in reverse.{font}

{font:arial, helvetica, sans-serif}NOT dancing at all."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well yeah, I suppose that that's not really "dancing" there, krieg my friend, BUT did you ever consider the possibility that this scene MIGHT have some international cimena significance to it???

Uh huh! I mean who's to say some Hong Kong-based filmmaker didn't see this footage years ago, and THIS is the reason why all those Kung Fu flicks have scenes like that in 'em, HUH?!

    ;) {font}

  11. Yeah, I saw it, Hibi. Don't waste your time. Like ya said here, it was "updated".

Yep, they changed it from a spiral staircase to an elevator...and somehow usin' Mr. Otis' invention didn't quite give ya that same spooky sense about the whole thing!!!

    (...juuuuuust kiddin' of course)

  12. Well HF, maybe yes and maybe no here, ol' boy!

Ya see, to my mind, anyone who believes in this whole "Movie stars are larger than life" is still a little naive in the ways of the world. I discovered years ago that "movie stars" are almost without exception everyday ordinary people who through either luck and/or often through the process of nepotism and with just a little work applied, become rich and famous. So called "talent" really means little in this equation.

I mean, why do ya think more often than not when some" movie star" is being interviewed and is asked about how they feel about their "success", they usually reply with somethin' along the lines of, "Hey! I know I'm lucky, and just keep hoping that 'they' don't find out I'm just a fraud!"

Btw...as you may know, this same phenomenon of course would ALSO apply to just about EVERY politician out there, and to ANYBODY naive enough to think ANY of 'em would make a difference in the world if elected.

(...WOW!...did I just start sounding like our resident cynic willbefree there or WHAT???!!!)

    LOL!!!

  13. I've always loved Mamet's "House Of Games", TB....well, except for Lindsay Crouse's stilted and monotone line delivery in it, anyway.

Yeah, I know she's supposed to be playin' an uptight shrink in the thing, but because of this decision of her's, or maybe her's and her then husband(Mamet), to play it that way, I thought it detracted from the film.

  14. Yes Lori, you're indeed in luck here. Ya see, from what I've heard about John Garfield, the kinkiest thing he was ever overheard saying he wished for, was somethin' about "Senator 'Tail Gunner' Joe McCarthy could kiss his behind"!!!

(...and I don't think he meant that that would in any way turn him on!)

Why'd ya feel the need to qualify that statement about people with the word "today" there, Mark???

I'm pretty sure the idea of people being drawn to the proverbial "Train Wreck" has been around for a long long time.

(...of course, since the advent of the televised 24 hour news cycle, I suppose your point MAY BE just a little more valid nowadays, huh!) ;)

Well Andy, maybe that's true, however this statement of yours brings to my mind the first time I ever watched "The Country Girl", and how I marveled at how good Bing Crosby was in the role of Grace Kelly's alcoholic husband.

(...yep, I remember thinking somethin' like, "Man! I didn't know he had it in him!")

Uh huh...yeah...well then, I gotta ask you guys somethin' here: If you'd put two of these here "Helix" kinda staircases together at your house, could ya then start up a business and work at home doin' DNA testing on people????

(...I've heard that COULD BE a growing field out there, ya know!)

  18. What, slaytonf? You've never heard of "casting against type" before or somethin', dude???

Yeah, actually, you have a point there, I suppose. Yep, what ya said DOES kinda make sense.

(...gotta question here for ya though...when did you start affecting this here Ricky Ricardo Cuban accent???..."One THIN that bothers you", ya SAY???)
