Thanks. Yeah, it is often fun or at least interesting at the minimum to watch actors and actresses primarily known as "leads" to take a supporting role in films. I think it gives us a chance to see how much they can "stretch" and/or play their roles with possibly more subtlety so as not to upstage the lead in a production, and yet make the role interesting enough that we appreciate watching the character's comings and goings on screen. And as I think both you and I seem to appreciate Hank's acting in the movie in question here.
-
Yeah, but I think it was more than just the facial hair. There was that folksy backwoods charm Hank projected in his role in support of Jimmy's O'Hanlon character, and which of course was Hunnicutt's stock-in-trade.
-
Well, for THAT matter, "most people on the street" NOW days probably don't know our Vice President's name is Joe Bidden...err, I mean Joe Bidin...err, I mean Joe Biden, EITHER!
(...it is "Biden", isn't IT???)
-
Yeah, I did think about adding one of my signature little annoying parenthetical addendums down there about that whole "canary" thing you brought up yesterday in some other thread, but for some odd reason I didn't do it!
(...and I still don't know why!!!)

-
Well, as I'm sure you figured out here, my previous post was more attuned to the idea that I feel all these comparisons that have been discussed around here lately about "who deserves their day in the Summer Sun at TCM" is a rather moot point, because as much as I enjoyed Clark Gable's day last Sunday, I've pretty much aligned my position of this with those who feel that it's usually a "breath of fresh air" when TCM decides to include the "lesser stars" in this series and include names a little less remembered by people.

Wait here, Hibi. Sorry, but I'm a little confused here now about all this measuring of screen time between Blyth and Jones in order to somehow come to the conclusion posited by someone earlier of who now "deserves to a SUTS honoree" more.
Soooooo, are you including all those Hostess Twinkie and Ding Dong commercials Ann did while Shirley was doin' her whole Mother Partridge thing on TV or not???!!!
(...please help me understand all this here!!!)

LOL

I don't know if it's the blonde hair and/or the angle she has her head cocked there, but Jean Simmons to me is almost unrecognizable as herself there, wouldn't ya say Joe?!
-
Yep, controversy has often sold more newspaper editions and garnered higher ratings, to be sure.
-
That may not have been the only response in regard to the issue of "nudity" in her thread which might have caused her to pull it. I think she felt it had segue into that topic much too early after she posted it.
(...jus' sayin')
-
Speaking of which, dark...I got the distinct impression while watching it last night that the Fonda role might've been written with Arthur Hunnicutt in mind.
Did you ever get that impression also?
I'm not saying Hank didn't do a good job in it, and yeah maybe is even better than Jimmy, but I found it somewhat interesting that he was cast as somewhat in support of Jimmy's role in this thing.

>DARGO; You really don't see the connection? It has nothing to do with if Cyrus has talent or not. If fact the groups complaining about Cyrus must fear she has a strong market base otherwise they wouldn't be worried about her influence on young girls.
Yeah, I understood the correlation you were attempting to make there, James. And it probably isn't all THAT bad of one, I suppose.
I guess I was just a bit resistant to the idea because of the ol' "Apples vs Oranges" thing.
(...'cause like I said..."THE LATTER TWO ACTUALLY POSSESSED TALENT"!!!) LOL

-
Yeah?! Think that's bad do ya, Nora?
See that picture of George Macready down there? Well HE named one of this daughters "Arencha"! And what made it even WORSE was that she would eventually marry into the "Werlate" family!
And thus making her married name: "Arencha Macready-Werlate"!
(...I guess you can now see what ravages to the brain of the youth can result from the over-exposure to any Jay Ward-produced cartoons circa the 1960s, huh)

-
Well, in MY case maybe "years"!
(...but then again and just like Shirley, I'm not exactly a "spring chicken" myself anymore, and thus MY concept of "Time" could be a little "out of whack" TOO now!)

-
>It couldn't mean anything else because I HAVEN'T seen this particular movie. I hope they show it again, because I'd LOVE to see it. Couldn't view it that day because LIFE got in the way...(
)WAIT! You have a LIFE???
Please elaborate on that concept for me, as I have completely forgotten what that's like!
(...and which is probably painfully obvious to most around here!!!)

LOL
-
Thanks!
(...but whaddaya mean with that qualifier there of "TODAY"???!!!)

-
Hoover or The Grand Coulee, Fly???
(...sorry, couldn't resist)

-
And thus echoing my earlier comment made to James in this baby when the conversation was momentarily sidetracked with a discussion of Dave Brubeck and little Miss Cyrus, and when I said:
>Nice try, James, but remember, the difference between little Miley, Hattie and Dave are that the latter two actually possessed talent.(...when it came to The Arts, anyway)
(...loved the "brass pole" line there though , ham!)

-
>She also refers to David Cassidy as "the rock star of the century." She must be doing some very high grade weed.
LOL
Yeah, that would be a rather strange comment to make alright, clore(Shirley's, not yours of course), but need I remind YOU now that it seems when many people reach their later years, their concept on time gets thrown completely out of whack.
(...and thus for a person of her age to confuse a "century" with "15 minutes of fame" might be somewhat understandable, wouldn't you say?!)

-
Ya know MissW, while I tend to agree with you about this whole "What was she thinking?" concept in regard to her inclusion of those passages in her book which Hibi mentioned below, maybe I should remind you here AND the REST of you ladies in this discussion who might have forgotten the following, but to many of us men a very desirable trait in women has been encapsulated within the ol' expression: "A Lady in the Drawing Room and a **** in the Bedroom"!!!

(...and if you ask ME, it sounds as if Marian the Librarian might fit that ol' expression to a "T""..which of course rhymes with "P", and that stands for...well in THIS case I'll leave to your imagination what that "P" might stand for!!!)
LOL

OH yeah, MissW! No argument THERE!
(...trust me here...there has been many a time around here after reading a posting when I'VE wished I wasn't monolingual)
-
So Hibi, in essence what you're sayin' here is that by Marian the Librarian's own admissions, she proves true the ol' saw that "Still waters run deep", eh?!
-
>And WHAT became of the "Cheyenne Social Club" thread? I CAN'T FIND it!
Well Sepia, maybe if you send a PM to SansFin asking her this question, you MIGHT get an answer to this question of yours.
(...though it might help if you can understand the Cyrillic alphabet, as it seems she occasionally reverts back to that when she becomes a mite peeved and as evidenced by her last posting in this thread down there!)
LOL
-
Wow Sans! Gotta say that was one in-depth answer to a question posed somewhat rhetorically and somewhat in jest. But, thanks for takin' the time to do it, anyway.

And re the whole Bill Maher thing, you probably know the specific comment he made which caused him to lose his former network late night program, and which although possibly inappropriately stated only due to its timing, was in my view a very accurate and perceptive comment. But enough about that here.
And re your disgust about your "The Cheyenne Social Club" thread being hijacked by another regular around here and which appears has caused you enough pain to consider taking a break from these boards, all I can say about that is to please reconsider this thought, as I personally would miss reading your cleverly written posts.
(...oh, and btw...I've just finished watching "the Cheyenne Social Club", and sorry, but I wasn't as impressed with it as you seemed to be, though I did think the conversation that Stewart and Fonda got into a few times in this film about their different political party affiliations was a clever little touch, and due of course to them actually being their party affiliations these two old friend had in their lives off the movie sets)

Yeah, always a possibility TOO of course, clore!
(...good one!)
