  1. YEAH! Like that time WAY back in happier times when James' mom placed her foot in June Allyson's footprint outside Grauman's Chinese Theater while his dad placed HIS in Dick Powell's footprint.

(...Hey James, maybe THAT'S why your dad has such a thing for June?!...well, I'd like to think so anyway) ;)

  2. >I believe you meant to type an "a" and not an "i" in that last word.

    LOL

Yeah, unfortunately I thought of adding that to my post right after I had entered it!

And yeah, I definitely see signs of success in how going about that process has allowed you to become more cognizant of this loopy American culture of ours! ;)

  3. I agree, James. In fact, speaking of Oprah and "The Butler" movie, in a way and from what I heard about it(haven't seen it yet, though my wife and I were at a neighbor's dinner party this Saturday and a few of the attendees said they had seen it and liked it...but I digress) it seems this film touches upon a similar theme to this idea of Sepia's.

As you probably know, Oprah was on Letterman's show a few weeks ago to plug the film, and they showed a clip of the scene where she slaps her son's face after he had become somewhat "radicalized" and called his father(Forest Whitaker) an "Uncle Tom" during dinner.

  4. ROFL!!!!

    That was GREAT, Sans!!!

How in the world have I never run across that one before?!!!

(...I guess I'm even more "culturally deprived" than I THOUGHT!!!)

  5. And Hibi, seein' as how it appears I'm in the mood to "help" people around here to remember the "hits" of yesteryear(or in this case "discover" 'em)...here ya are with that Julie London cover of the Ohio Express hit!...

(...oh, by the way, be forewarned...Julie sounds a little "under-the-weather" here..) ;)

  6. LOL

Well, in THAT case Sans, lemme see if I can refresh your memory here!

    Hello, SansFin

    Well Hello, Sansfin

It's so nice to see you back in this here thread!

    (...sorry, couldn't resist) ;)

  7. Actually a very good question there, finance!

So, where on some proposed "Butterfly McQueen-Marla Gibbs Maid Spectrum" WOULD we place Hattie here, eh folks?!

I MY view, most of Hattie's "maid" roles would've been toward the Marla Gibbs end of that spectrum. In other words, the "sassy" end of it and not the "subservient" end of it.

(...but hey, once again, what do I know...I have no "dog in the fight" here, and no "ax to grind" here, right?!)

  8. C'mon now, MissW! if you're now gonna provide a link to Bubblegum music, then the LEAST you could have done here was to link us to the Number 1 "BEST" of that genre which was sittin' right over to the right of that YouTube page you linked us to!!!

Yep, I'm talkin' of none other than that little ditty by the Ohio Express titled: "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I've Got Love in My Tummy"!!!

(...and ONLY possibly rivaled as the Number 1 "Best" in that genre by that OTHER little ditty done by The Archies)

  9. WAIT!!! drednm is sayin' here he has a couple of college diplomas hangin' on his wall?!

Oh well, in THAT case I, only a lowly high school graduate, must take back EVERYTHING I've said in this thread about him.

Yep, it appears I must now bow to his superior academic credentials and eat a little crow here.

I mean, ANYONE who can place letters behind their name "MUST BE" of superior intellect, RIGHT?!

(...though it seems not necessarily "superior" in the art of social skills...unfortunately)

    LOL

  10. Yeah, well I'm kinda wonderin' here if James' dad might've been better at placing the faces of these ladies if he'd hear their voices at the same time. I mean, using two senses to help jog the ol' memory IS always better than just one, ya know.

And so James, why not sit with your dad while TCM is on the TV?

(...just make sure it's not a Lizabeth Scott movie that's on at the time, 'cause THAT might confuse the Ol' Man even further here, ya know) ;)

  11. Yep Dothery, I read James' posts in this thing yesterday also, and think his comments pretty much are the only way one could realistically look at this whole thing given the information we know.

But hey, did ya hear the one that goes.......

    (...sorry, couldn't resist) ;)

  12. OH! Don't worry about THAT, Hibi!

Kinda like how I told ya in that PM of yours, I've always gotten SUCH a "high" at makin' people, "a little slow on the ol' uptake" and/or who somehow think being a "Man of Few Words" who has "no time for all the "B.S." in the world" somehow imbues them with an extra bit of testosterone, look at themselves in the mirror.

And thus if I NEVER get an apology here, it really wouldn't matter one way OR the other to me!

    LOL

And, I gotta a feelin' here that this "gentleman" MIGHT fit one of those two above descriptions, THOUGH I might add, IF it turns out that I've misread this guy at all, I WILL apologize to him as soon as I've discovered I have....misread him, that is.

(...yep, you can COUNT on that)

  13. Well, if you haven't already placed me on that there "ignore" function yet, I'll tell ya "for what" here.

For accusing me of being "sanctimonious" down there, THAT'S what!

Ya see, because I was brought up to believe that whenever I misread someone's comments or statements and then accused them erroneously of being somethin' that they're NOT, then I was to apologize to them later for that.

Though I suppose because as you said you don't hang around here much anymore because of all those "other rude people", and that you really don't read all that much of what's written around here, I can kinda see the reason why you might not grasp that of out of ALL the folks around here, I WOULD most likely be the LAST person anyone would ever accuse of being "sanctimonious", AND because I am one of THE most irreverent souls you'd EVER have the misfortune of knowing.

(...just ask anyone around here, THEY'LL tell ya!)

    LOL

  14. And yet STILL no apology here, eh drednm?!

Man, you MUST really like Duke's movies, huh!

    LOL

(...and yeah, it DOES usually seem to be that those who are resistant to the idea of apologizing and/or who CAN'T LAUGH AT THEMSELVES and their OWN FOIBLES seem to eventually find that for some strange reason all those "other people" out there on the internet are the "rude" ones...uh-huh, now isn't THAT "funny"?!)

  15. Btw folks, as you've NOW just witnessed, the ONLY thing I've always liked MORE than tweakin' the noses of those unable to appreciate "the finer aspects of dark comedic material", ARE those who are a little slow on the ol' uptake!!!!

    ROFL

  16. >Didn't see the humor I guess.... No matter....

    LOL

I LOVE it! So no apology here at all for misinterpreting my post, eh drednm?! Just a "No Matter", HUH?!

(...okay, then I guess I can now ALSO add you to that OTHER list of mine of people around here who think Big Duke was somehow right when he said in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon"...'Never apologize...it's a sign of weakness!")

    ROFL!!!!!!

  17. Well drednm, I suppose I can now add YOU to my long list of people around here who don't quite "get" my brand of humor eithier, HUH?!

    LOL

'Cause dude, my previous post wasn't meant to be a " sanctimonious lecture" but WAS in fact meant to be a little tweak to the nose of people who can't find it in themselves to appreciated the "finer aspects" of "dark comedy"!

(...and here I would've thought any guy with apparently as little breeding and good taste as I have would've caught the joke here!!!)

    LOL

  18. Hey drednm, if your NEXT one is gonna be the old one about "the only wood that doesn't float", then ya better know RIGHT NOW that much like there still are people around who after all this time find absolutely NO humor whatsoever to be mined in the occurrences which took place inside Ford's Theater back in 1865, there are still people around HERE who'll find your post lacking in taste and will let you know about it!

(...trust me, I have firsthand experience in this matter from WAY back!!!)

  19. Well MissW, I would suppose THAT might all depend upon how good a singing voice Matthau had, wouldn't it?! ;)

(...I can't imagine a very good one, and ya know even the BEST of songs can be ruined depending upon who attempts singing them!)
