  1. Well, I'll tell ya CB, what I DO understand, and what I hoped I made clear in that thread to everybody that read that thread was that when people of ANY color or persuasion have an almost automatic and reflective disposition to become overly defensive in any situation or discussion, that it almost without fail will lead to a cease in the exchange of knowledge and ideas between the individuals involved in said situations and discussions.

  2. CB, I sorely wish I could help you understand how your "rape" comment was as inflammatory a comment as they came in that thread, and the idea that you are so "put-upon" because you're a Blonde wasn't really germane to the discussion in the least, but alas I'm very sorry to say I have the feeling here that no matter what I say, you won't be able to comprehend my meaning.

(...and trust me here, I DON'T think this because of your hair color)

  3. >Maybe next time I'll start a thread about string ties in Westerns as opposed to the more traditional neck ties in more urban settings. But then, the bow tie might play a wild card role in this. Nothing is safe.

    LOL

Yep MissW. I can't imagine the topic of "Ties" arousing such a rancor because of the manner in which they were tied might've "denigrated" the neck of those who wore them back in the day.

(...well, except for maybe how tonight's SUTS honoree Charles Coburn's double chin might've covered and hidden any bow-ties he might've worn) ;)

  4. Well Jake, as I coincidentally stated in another thread recently, JUST as long as you're NOT attempting with a ponytail to draw attention away from the rest of a bald head, then THAT certainly isn't all that foolish!!!

(...'cause there's NOTHIN' as dumb lookin' as some old bald **** doin' THAT, as I HOPE you know!!!!)

    LOL

(...okay, yes, the "classic" "comb-over" is almost as bad, but not NEARLY!!!)

    LOL

  5. I'll never forget how effective she was the first time I became aware of her in "The Haunting", and when that movie scared the ever-livin' you-know-what out o' me the first time I watched it as a teenager on the old ABC Sunday Night Movie series in the late 1960s.

    (...RIP, Julie)

  6. Yep, I remember your "Pollack"(wait, he was a director, sorry...I mean "Polack" ;) ) post Sepia, and thought it made some very good points.

(...except I gotta say I always thought that that ol' Rifleman made a pretty good Geronimo, and that that flick wasn't half bad...though I realize I'VE always been in the "minority" when it comes to that opinion) ;)

  7. ummmmm...okay. Whatever ya say, CB.

    LOL

(...btw, I have to know here...did you even get that with that whole "Try being an exceptionally good lookin' guy because of the troubles I've faced all my life" shtick of mine, that I was making fun of your comparing the "anguish" of "blonde jokes" to the plight of African-Americans over the years?)

    LOL

  8. However James, wasn't it you yourself who made the comment in that thread about this "not being Black History Month, and thus why are these 'burdens' of being a 'representative of her race' placed upon Miss McDaniel during this SUTS spotlighting?"

(..well, if it wasn't you, then whoever it was I thought asked a very good question)

  9. Sorry Lavender, but it is you who seems to have now misunderstood my reply to iz's earlier comment regarding my earlier misunderstanding of iz's intent.

My first response to iz was an implication that I understood that you had NOT thought of me as the reason for the thread's demise, not the other way around.

(...and so, as Chick Hearn, the old Voice of the L.A. Lakers used to say: "No Harm, No Foul") ;)

  10. Good points, Tom, and if you've read my most recent reply to darkblue, then you saw I grasped those points, but also lamented that until such emotions can be reduced in value by ALL parties concerned, then "moving forward" as a society by means of a rational dialogue will unfortunately never ensue.

  11. >Last night, the thread had veered far afield of the original topic and from the dust-up between Dargo and CaramelSmoothie into an area far away from Hattie McDaniel, Gone with the Wind and her other roles and more into modern racial politics and statistics. And that was likely what caused the thread to be removed.

Well iz, it appears at least LavenderBlue doesn't agree with your opinion as to why that thread is now gone....not that I'm sayin' you're wrong here, mind you! LOL

(...and btw, the vast majority of my responses to Smoothie WERE about her lack of awareness in the matter of GWTW and Hattie's role in it, if you recall correctly)

  12. That right THERE might be the $64,000 Question, dark!

And here's MY opinion on that:

Probably not, and for the very same reason that any discussion which includes the issue of "Race" contained within any discussion, still to this day will never get discussed in any truly meaningful manner so was to not eventually become a discussion laced with emotional responses because of past wrongs committed.

(...and so it goes....unfortunately...and why in my opinion this issue will be around for generations to come....unfortunately)

  13. LOL

While for some reason I never got into "Mad Men"(always thought I missed the boat on that one, as I do like stories about that era in our history) that IS a funny storyline there, and makes me even more sorry I never got into that series.

Yep, the ol' Joe "The Prince of Darkness" Lucas(British electrical systems) strikes again, eh?!)

  14. Well, as that old "Barttles and James" wine cooler commercial went Lavender, "Thanks for your support"!!! LOL

But yeah, I already pretty much perceived the notion that once someone else around here brought up the issue of "rape" in a SERIOUS manner after I JOKINGLY made of the comment about "serial killers always being portrayed by white guys...'cause they usually are!", that that thread was gonna be a goner.

(...I guess I'm just as bad a "bad influence" as finance is around here, HUH?!) ;)

    LOL

  15. Yep, you got it, alright!

I'm actually sorry to hear of her leaving, because while I didn't agree with her opinion(an opinion based somewhat on her lack of actually never having watched the movie GWTW all the way through and thus unaware that Hattie played the character with more than a little measure of dignity, I MIGHT add), I thought her a very intelligent and articulate individual, and would have loved to have heard other opinions she might have shared about classic films in general.

Ya see, IF she would have just been JUST a little more "full of herself"(which was her VERY accurate opinion of ME, btw) then MAYBE she would have possessed enough "grit" to take the slings and arrows of holding a "minority opinion"(and I don't mean "minority" in THAT way here) and thus still be around so that could have happened!

(...uh-huh, NOW do you folks see how someone being "full of themselves" can sometimes contribute to their "longevity"???)

    LOL
