Well, I'm not sure Hattie had the bod to do the title role in "Pin-Up Girl"...racism or NOT!!!
(...though I gotta say if EITHER Lena Horne OR Dorothy Dandridge might've been up for the role, I suuuuure wouldn't have minded, 'cause to tell ya the truth, Grable never did a THING for me!!!)
-
Well, it's kinda like, Why do they always portray serial-killers as WHITE guys???
(...oh, wait...that's 'cause they usually are, huh...never mind)
LOL
-
>I'll further assist this highjack to mention the "urban legend' that Amsterdam was hired by JFK to inject humorous inflections into many of the president's speeches.
Yep, word is the very first draft of Kennedy's Inaugural Address was:
"Ask NOT what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for my Aunt Mildred...who waited so long for her ship to come in, her pier collapsed!"
(...though as we know, cooler heads prevailed and a second draft was done)
-
Why is this such a surprise to you, finance?
I mean, you should know by now that whenever I start goin' into my Insightful/Perceptive/Astute Mode around here, then it DOES usually have the effect of being a "Juggernaut" which "steamrolls" over anyone else who might hold a differing but eventually proved falsely-held opinion?
(...uh-huh...ain't it a good thing that I usually just go for the jokes around here like you do?...yep, the carnage can be SO awful in my wake whenever I get out of my "Joke Mode", huh!)
LOL

OH, btw Smoothie Baby(and I suuuure hope I'm not comin' across like I'm "full of myself" here again), but ya know that flick "Imitation of Life"???
Well, it might surprise you to learn that I've never been a fan of EITHER versions of that movie. And ya wanna know WHY?!
Well, it's 'cause I can't stand the mealy-mouthed and subservient interpretations that EITHER Louise Beavers OR Juanita Moore bring to their characters.
BUT, of course, IF they DIDN'T play 'em that way, there suuuure wouldn't be much of a movie, huh!
AND, but of course, even THOUGH I'm "not a big fan of those flicks", I sure would NEVER try to keep them from OTHER PEOPLE seein' 'em.
(...I would just hope that other people would feel as I do about it, THAT'S all!)
-
OH, sorry Smoothie, I forgot © here:
© That showing ANY movies which features Hattie McDaniel is somehow a reflection upon you, or any PRESENT American who might happen to be of African heritage.
(...like I said, sorry, I forgot that one)
LOL
-
Well then my friend, then what say we investigate why YOU feel so strongly about all this then, OKAY?!
Now, deep in the recesses of your mind, what personal "trauma" can you recall happening to you in your lifetime which might have caused you to possess such anguish as to come to false conclusions(and without a total investigation of the facts, once again) that:
(a) I must be one of those ultra-conservative krypto-racists in the world because I had the 'audacity' to believe you have "a chip on your shoulder", and EVEN though I've stated this very same thing about a number of people regardless of the color of their skin a NUMBER of times in my lifetime
(
That just because Hattie McDaniel often played a maid in many films, that it "has to follow" that her role in GWTW must be of one of insignificance and "belittlement" also...oh yeah, and with you having never WATCHED the freakin' movie. -
Sorry James, but I'm not "missing the point" here. You see, while I FULLY understand Smoothie's opinion about all the "maid" roles Hattie played as being "bygone negative stereotypes of Black Americans", and in fact agree WITH that opinion, AND agree that MAYBE this might call into question her spotlighting as a SUTS honoree, MY issue with Smoothie was his/her making an ACROSS THE BOARD generality in regard to Hattie's career, and ESPCIALLY as has been noted, his/her opinion based on what he/she admitted was his/her lack of total investigation, AND which is something he/she STILL is somehow rationalizing in his/her mind and REFUSES to at least ADMIT is a reasonable counterpoint.
(...now, do YOU "get it"???)
-
Well, there ya go again statin' an opinion that is SO far off the mark, Smoothie.
Ya see, and listen close here my friend, I can't STAND FoxNews! Nope, not one bit, 'cause I've never held any affinity for any news gathering organization which attempts to use the emotion of fear in order to drive some agenda!
Did ya understand that here? I suuuure hope so!
And secondly, it might interest you to know that I voted TWICE for the fellow currently sittin' his behind in the Oval Office.
So, there goes THAT opinion of yours RIGHT OUT the ol' window...again, huh!
And now back to Hattie here...
YES...once again...YES, the issue of Hattie's performance in GWTW is a KEY PART in this discussion because THAT performance was her SIGNATURE performance in ALL of her career! And thus, because YOU YOURSELF made it a point EARLIER to state that she ALWAYS played a character that "shucked and jived" and thus "denigrated her race", WAS a statement NOT born of FACTS!!!
(...get it NOW???)
-
>Oh get over yourself, lol.
Well, tell ya what then, Smoothie Baby! I'll make ya a little deal here.
If YOU will attempt to make that chip on your shoulder JUST a little smaller, then I promise I'll do MY best to "get over myself"!!!!
LOL
In other words, ONCE AGAIN Smoothie Baby, I appears pretty darn obvious to everyone around here that BECAUSE of that "chip on your shoulder" you have about the poor race relations there were in the U.S. back when Hattie was tryin' to make a living, that NO matter what ANYONE says here is gonna sway your opinion one way or the other, huh?!
(...which once again goes back to what I said earlier in this baby about one of the biggest shames in all the world is when people of ANY color have closed their minds off to any other opinion before they actually investigate an issue...i.e., your lack of actually WATCHING Hattie's performance in GWTW...yeah, yeah, I KNOW, "you don't need to watch it", 'cause you've ALREADY made up your mind, huh!)
LOL

WHOA now, Twink! Calm down, my dear.
I think you're takin' this too seriously and a LITTLE too personally, my dear!
(...trust me, I didn't mind what MissW said here, 'cause she made a valid point nor was she rude at all)
-
Well, I wouldn't go THAT far, Twink.
'Cause I very often feel I SHOULD occasionally apologize for this "bombastic manner" of mine!!!
(...and PROBABLY rightfully so...just ask probably 50% of the folks around here, THEY'LL tell ya!!!)
LOL
-
>And yes, Dargo, we can bring it back to the original topic. But like many of these threads, it's beginning to feel like we're all talking in circles.
Well MissW. after I a little earlier in this thread so successfully shot-down CaramelSmoothie's PREconceptions and MISconceptions about Hattie's portrayal of Mammy by use of my usual sharp and insightful logic(AND of course my usual bombastic manner), then what MORE was there REALLY left to say here after that, RIGHT?!
LOL
(...I mean, CaramelSmoothie hasn't appeared able to mount or even attempt any sort of logical rebuttal to my post about all that since that time, now have they???!!!)
LOL(again)

Thanks again for the further info, Sans. Sounds logical, I suppose.
(...though btw, you DO realize that once someone starts dissecting jokes and attempts to use complete logic to analyze 'em, it USUALLY takes ALL the fun out of it, doncha?!...and so, please remind me NEVER to watch a screwball comedy with you if I ever have the chance, OKAY?!)

LOL

Thanks for the clarification here, Sans.
But tell me here: What in the world would a civilian need with an incendiary 9mm bullet, regardless of how expensive they are or their scarcity?
(...naaaah, forget I asked that...I don't want this thing to go in THAT direction here, 'cause the NEXT thing you know, somebody around here will almost SURELY start talkin' about their paranoia of our government!!!)
LOL
-
Btw, if anyone wants to talk about Hattie here(which coincidentally was also my mother's name...REALLY, no kiddin'), then PLEASE don't let all this talk of my being "exceptionally good lookin", "motorcycles", "helmets", "Jack Nicholson" AND/OR anyone else who wishes to talk about "how tough life as been to 'em", stop you from doin' so here!
(...and the reason I posted this is 'cause it seems whenever some of these thread go off-topic for a bit like this, SOME people seem to somehow think that it's somehow impossible to get 'em back ON-topic, when all it REALLY takes is to just go ahead and.DO IT!!!!)
LOL
-
Hmmm..."Jack Nicholson", huh?!
Well, sorry, but I don't see why! I mean, MY helmet doesn't look ANYTHING like Jack's does here!...
(...and besides, I've got my own motorcycle TOO!!!)
-
Hmmmm..."Diagnosis Murder"..."Diagnosis Murder".
WAIT! I think I've got as new "theory" happenin' here!
Does anyone know what BARRY Van Dyke has been up to lately???
Now, NOT to "cast aspersions" here, BUT you don't suppose Barry might have pulled a "Menendez Brothers" kinda thing here 'cause he's tried of waitin' for his inheritance TOO?!!! I mean Dick IS 87 y/o and lookin' and actin' like he might be around for ANOTHER 20 years or so, RIGHT?!!!
(...yeah, yeah, I KNOW that sounds kinda harsh, BUT ya never KNOW about people, ya know...and besides, let us not leave one stone unturned here while we search for the cause of this thing, RIGHT?!!!)

-
Well, I'll just chalk THAT all up to you likin' a guy with a little MEAT on his bones, THAT'S all!!!

LOL
-
Well, it couldn't be ME if THAT'S what you're thinkin' here, Lavender! 'Cause as you know, I moved away from La La Land YEARS ago and now reside in beautiful and picturesque Sedona AZ, and I haven't been back there since last November for a motorcycle rally!
(...though now that I THINK about it, ARTURO out that-a-way suuuure has been awfully quiet in this thread, HASN'T he?!!!!)

LOL
-
LOL
You must be lonelier than I thought, Twink!!!

-
Now THAT might not be a stretch there, Lavender!
Though then again, what guy DIDN'T have "a thing" for Laura back then, EH?!
(...especially what with all that "cupping" she showed in those capri pants...well, until those darn ol' censors put a stop to it, anyway!)
-
WHAT, Twink?! Forget that picture of me standin' with my motorcycle rally group so SOON???
LOL
(...better work on that memory o' your's, lady...I hear that there Ginkgo Biloba stuff is pretty good for this, ya know!)

-
Yes, but FRED lives in Springfield...which is nowhere CLOSE to the Ventura Freeway!
(...or any other points within the greater L.A. area, as you most likely know)

Dick Van Dyke escapes firey death.

Letterman had a good one about all this the other night, Lavender.
It went somethin' like this:
"It was a bad day all around for the Van Dykes the other day in Los Angeles. Dick's Jaguar caught fire on the Ventura Freeway, and the bus Jerry was riding on broke down along Wilshire Blvd!"
LOL
