Yeah! And EXACTLY the reason why they should close ALL the movie houses in areas where "slum people" live!!! LOL

-
Thanks, RK. I see what ya mean. From just those quick shots of him there, I'd say he does look a lot like Dean.
(...saaay...maybe bein' "The Next James Dean" wasn't that good for a young man's acting career, eh?!...I mean, it sure didn't seem to help this kid Porter's career OR Parks' OR Jones' shot at stardom much either, huh!
...though I HAVE heard that at least in Parks' case, he pretty much sabotaged his own career by being impossible to work with on a few too many sets) Edited by: Dargo2 on Aug 12, 2013 12:01 PM

LOL
And of course IF it ever DID come to a vote, it would be voted down...though NOT because of any "human factor", but because all the NYC-based corporations would've had their lobbyists "contribute" enough to the re-election campaigns of all the congressmen in order to assure a vote for the city's continual existence!!!
(...and I'll betcha I'm RIGHT, too!!!)

LOL

For whatever reason last night and while watching this movie for maybe the 7th or 8th time, I got an extra special kick this time out of when Powell is explaining to Fonda about his "Reflexive Hero Theory" and using the supposition of Lemmon flying a B-29 as his example. And then after he can't get Lemmon's knee to jerk about striking it a couple of times says, "You better stay out of B-29s, Frank!" LOL
(...so yeah, I guess in MY case and even after 7 or 8 viewings of this film, I still like it!)

Hmmmm...interesting ideas and final question here, MM. And so here's my answer...
I've always thought once you factor out all the paranoid craziness based in deep-seated resentment and feelings of inadequacy represented by Captains Queeg and Morton on their respective ships, Lt. Roberts would have gotten along on with his NEW Captain on that destroyer pretty much like Lt, Maryk(Van Johnson) got along with his OLD Captain(Tom Tully). In other words, very well, because there was and most likely would have been more mutual respect going on in those situations, and thus NO NEED for the needless internal conflict present on board each of Queeg's and Morton's ships.
(...and which of course without those "needless internal conflicts" on each ship, you would have far less of a story worth bothering to tell)
-
Lemme guess MM...you're thinkin' some o' those "Weak Sister" types like Fredric March says Burt Lancaster thinks his President is in a certain OTHER movie set in the month of May, RIGHT??? LOL
(...no need to answer this, BTW...in fact it's probably better if ya didn't)

FlyBack...AGAIN?! I mean isn't this now the second thread you've started about the unlikelihood of this ending to "Fail-Safe" that you've started in a week's time?
Look my friend, the story is an Allegory, and yes, very often allegorical tales are not totally based in reality, but are in fact very often "enhanced" to make their point. And of course, the point of "Fail-Safe" was a warning to its audience that NOTHING in life is infallible.
I think what might be confusin' ya here is that so much of film DOES admittedly seem to be a super-realistic presentation of the 1960s era Strategic Air Command..."The Big Board" and all.
-
Yeah, and ironically while completely bypassing the Blues!!!

-
LOL
Yeah...yeah. Good...ahem..call-y here, finance.
(...so what tipped ya off?...it's the ears and their speaking..err..barking voice, RIGHT?!)

-
Sorry RK, I missed this film's showing, and I can't find a picture on the internet of this Robert Porter you talk of to see how much like a Dean lookalike he was.
So tell me, did he resemble Dean more than Michael Parks(of "Then Came Bronson" fame) did, also?
-
Wait cb! You DO realize don't ya that if McQueen had played Frank Bullitt along the lines of Agent 86, that most likely it would have been his MUSTANG that would have plowed into that gas station and NOT the Charger, RIGHT???!!!
LOL
-
As I recall Arturo, the cartoon character of Cool McCool was a somewhat bumbling secret agent more along the lines of a Maxwell Smart type than of how we now picture McQueen in our minds now days.
(...it's just probably the "Mc" part of the name that had you thinkin' what you were thinkin', I'd guess)

Here ya go, Fred. Everything about the 1958 version and a little about the 2002 version which is more faithful to Graham Greene's original intent as an anti-war story is in this Wiki page....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Quiet_American_(1958_film)
(...wait, what am I doin' here?!...I think Fred has me on his ignore function, and so would somebody else post this link for me...well, I guess for Fred actually?)
LOL

Sorry ham, but I think the mechanical bird there looks more like a...ahem..."C3POwl".

(...and yeah, Harryhausen's version of Medusa there definite looks like it was inspired after Ray had watched an "I Love Lucy" TV marathon, alright!)

I've always thought for an actor it wouldn't be preferable, because it often seems to subconsciously convey to an audience a lack of worldliness or experience...both of which are qualities in a character which I've always found makes them more interesting.

Call me "nosy" here finance, but I'm dyin' to know the specifics of your particular "Blessing in disguise" here.
You could even change the names in order to protect the innocent(or guilty) if ya want.
-
Well Miles, I'm gonna have to do a Scarlett here and "think about it tomorrow", 'cause it's gettin' a bit late and I'm about to hit the ol' sack.
Good Night my friend.

I think this is a more modern movie you might actually like. Now, it's more a dark comedic satire of Tinseltown than is "The Bad and the Beautiful", but there are loads of famous actor and actresses doing cameos in it, plus sort of a Noir element in it also.
(...and re myself as a "player"...if that movie was ever done, it would have to be a "period piece" and set in the 1980s...I've been a very good boy since then, ya see!)
LOL
-
Okay, in THAT case, I'll do it, Twink...Twink! Feel better now???
LOL

So then tell me, and seein' as how you responded here...Have YOU ever watched "The Player"?
(...it's a great movie...and yeah, EVEN though in was made in...GASP...1992!!!)
LOL
-
Hmmmm..."cop/adventure/comedy" series, eh?! Am I close in thinkin' this guy was a regular in one of those "B.J. and the Bear/Sheriff Lobo" programs?
-
Yeah, a little Miles, but mostly just the same smile, I think.
-
ROFL!!!!
Great one, Rich!
(...and oh so topical, to boot!)
-
TCM recently showed a nifty little B-movie thriller made in 1945 titled "The Power of the Whistler" and starring Richard Dix as an amnesiac who learns about his past through the help of an amateur fortune teller played by Janis Carter.
-
Sorry Miles, I haven't a clue about this guy. Were those TV series you mentioned of the sitcom variety?

Yeah, or maybe Newark?!!!
(...nah, on second thought, the Ruskies would've probably just thought that that was part of an overall "urban renewal project" already slated for fiscal year 1965, huh)
