Film Noir Fridays: Can't Hardly Wait !
Dargo2 replied to misswonderly3's topic in General Discussions
Yeah, there sure were a whole lot of "coincidences" and a little too much of great "deductive sleuthing" goin' on in that one, alight...especially all the excellent "deductive sleuthing" goin' on by Bill Williams as the dim-witted sailor and especially during that whole "orangeade stand" sequence. Uh huh..."After I would've killed somebody, the very FIRST thing I would've done would've been to walk over and get me some of that cool refreshing drink of ORANGEADE!" Uh huh...yeah...riiiiiight. (...btw, is it just me here or did Bill Williams remind anyone else around here of Kevin Spacey???...hmmmm...maybe another one I should post in the "Lookalikes" thread, eh?!) -

>Yeah, but I wish that all the films shown were straight-on noirs. THE LEOPARD MAN certainly wasn't. >It was a spooky noir. Yep, finance. Just envision all those women being shot with a snub-nose S&W .38 instead of being mauled to death, and I think that might help ya here! (...then again of course, they probably would have had to change the title, huh!) -
And speaking of "cartoons"....I'm pretty sure "Radiator Springs" in the film Cars is supposed to be Sedona Arizona...and where I now reside in retirement.

I remember when I was about 13 y/o(1965), my parents took some of our relatives from "back east"(Indianapolis, to be exact) to the original Brown Derby on Wilshire Blvd. because Uncle Slim and Aunt Gertie wanted to see some "Movie Stars", with Uncle Slim especially being on the lookout for Betty Grable, and I think Aunt Gertie hoping to spot John Wayne! LOL (....though I'm pretty sure they would have "settled" to see William Holden with the Derby's fare splattered all over him!)

MissW, add a dash of one of your countrymen, comedian Dave Foley, and I think you might be onto somethin' there. (...regarding Eddie's look, that is) -
Aaah..."Don Dubbins"! So THAT'S the guy who always reminded me of Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers, eh?! (...thanks Joe!)
-
Hmmmm...a "Harlot-Davidson" ya say, Eugenia??? (...well, AT LEAST the lady here didn't have to go NEAR as far to set-up THAT one as I did with my "Ho" joke, anyway!)
-
Eeh! If that business acquaintance asks ya about that, just tell him you're startin' to practice your St. Nick early this year 'cause ya just received word from Macy's they've penciled ya in as the jolly ol' soul who brings up the rear of that parade they throw every Thanksgivin'! And of course because it's only June, you're ONLY practicin' the first word of his greeting, and you'll get to practicin' the NEXT "Ho" sometime in late July! (...yeah, I know...that WAS a long way to go for such a lame joke, wasn't it!)
-
>First of all,it isn't my fair city. I haven't lived there in 35 years.I'm sure your question wasn't for me, since you're too much of a gentleman to ask me that. Now are you SURE you're talkin' to ME now??? Did you say "GENTLEMAN"??? LOL >but I'll answer. All my boyfriends had a car! LOL . also my parents were very socialble, movies, theater, playing cards at friend, etc. and living in NY as opposed to a small town, there were plenty of things to do on the week-ends so they were out of our apartment. Do I really need to continue? LOL And, thank you for fillin' me in about YOUR old exploits and the "logistics" involved, Lavender...you little harlot, you! LOL (...JUST kiddin')
-
>That depends - what does Kim look like now? She hasn't turned a Margot Kidder or anything, has she? Well dark, if ya wanna be all 'SHALLOW" about that here ...then here's the latest pic I could find of Kim. (...and if ya ask ME, I think she's holdin' up pretty darn well!)
-
Hmmm...sounds like it would've been a little too "public" for My tastes anyway, Swithin! (...so what did you guys do for music during these little "interludes" when evidently there was no Delco or Motorola radios sittin' in a dashboard just a few feet away, HUH?!...PLEASE don't tell me you used to carry around one of those big lumbering BOOM BOXES with ya to those little "nooks"?!...oh, "HOW romantic"!)
-
>I'm lucky (knock wood) in that I haven't had a bad experience with a motorcyclist (only that some of them don't go fast enough when they are in front of me, lol). OH! you must be talkin' about those HARLEY riders, Eugenia! Yep, I know EXACTLY what you're talkin' about here! You see you'll NEVER have that problem with us TRIUMPH motorcycle riders, 'cause not ONLY are our machines faster than those big lumbering HARLEYS , but most of the time the riders of TRIUMPHS know HOW to ride, and unlike those HARLEY riders who it seems primarily ONLY ride their motorcycles because they think it somehow makes 'em "look cool' and "tough" (...especially when they're sportin' their little "Pirate" outfits which lack any necessary crash-protection, for when one of the people who I ALSO mentioned earlier who have NO business bein' behind the wheel of a car, make that sudden and unannounced LEFT TURN right in front of us motorcyclists...'cause as I ALSO said, THEY'RE BLIND!!!!!) ****
-
Okay, sorry Swithin. It seems I did misread your post, and so I apologize for that. (...though tell me somethin' here...when you guys back there in that metropolis were teenagers and you "needed" a back seat of a car for, say, 'dating purposes', WHERE the heck did you GO for somethin' like that, HUH?!...SHIRLEY...ahem, I mean surely those Subways of yours back there didn't provide the necessary "privacy" for such an "encounter", RIGHT?! LOL
-
Hmmm...well maybe I misread that then, but I got the impression Swithin said he was driving a car. And so, then I must ask...is a driver's license required to ride a bicycle in your fair city? (...'cause if it IS, then it sounds as if that mayor of yours back there who evidently thinks limiting the size of soft drinks to 16oz in order to keep his citizens who evidently lack the willpower to say, "No thanks, that's enough for me", has ALSO decided that people on two-wheeled NON-motorized conveyances, need him to regulate THEIR lives TOO!!!) LOL
-
>Wow, this has to be one my shorter posts! Better watch it, Char! Not ONLY do I SEEM to be that "bad influence" on ya that I mentioned a while back in another thread, BUT it seems "you-know-who"(and who we NOW know as "Hal"...though not the "9000" model) in Philly might be workin' his little magic upon ya TOO!
-
Yeah, I know of the great public transit which NYC can boast. I've visited your fantastic city before and have used those systems myself. BUT, wouldn't ya say, the it COULD be considered rather "poor manners" to drive an automobile IF one doesn't possess a driver's license in ANY part of this great country of ours??? And that was my point...the idea that Swithin almost sounded as if "bragging" about the fact of driving withOUT a license. (...'cause as I mentioned in my "Motorcyclist" response below, I seem to observe SO many people behind the wheel of their cars out here in the West who I THINK have NO freakin' business possessing a driver's license LET ALONE being behind the wheel on a car!!!)
-
>I just realized how inconsistent I am. Several months ago, I complained about how rude it was for a supermarket customer to be talking on his or her cell phone while going through the checkout line. Now I realize that doing that is a good way to shield oneself from the meaningless small talk often emitted by the checker. Maybe I'll finally get a cell phone, as a defense mechanism. Whenever I'm in the company of someone I don't want to talk to, I'll just dial up the cellphone........Incidentally, it's much harder to pick up girls than it used to be. You used to see a female you liked, you went up to her and came up with some contrived opening line. Now, chances are that you'll have to interrupt her cell phone conversation, which won't score you any points.......This may be my longest post ever. "MAY"???? LOL (...and no Hal..err..finance, PLEASE DON'T start doin' that thing with the cellphone you're comtemptin' here....PLEASE!!!...'cause dude, I'd lose a little of this respect I've had for ya around here if ya did)
-
> (and being a good native New Yorker, I don't even have a driver's license!) WHAT???!!! Ya KNOW Swithin, you've REALLY let me down here by confessin' THAT! (...and JUST at about the time Lavenderblue had me CONVINCED that New Yorkers WEREN'T such a bad lot AFTERALL!!!!) ****
-
Gotta say it's probably HIGHLY doubtful that Kim Basinger and HER Ex(YOU know, the hot-head who doesn't like his picture being taken AND who used to co-host "The Essentials" around here) will ever be in a movie together again! (...though I suppose ya never KNOW, huh!)
-
Oh WELL, Eugenia and Sepia, IF ya get into THAT whole can o' worms here (the "can o' worms" about "The Rules of the Road") then TRUST ME here...as an avid motorcyclist for the past 45 years, I gotta say that not ONLY are the freakin' PEDESTRIANS often times a clueless lot, BUT I gotta ALSO say it sometimes seems HALF the folks behind the wheels of their CARS shouldn't have ever been granted a freakin' DRIVERS license EITHER!!! (...yep, trust me here AGAIN...the day I fail for whatever reason to ride in a EXTREME "defensive manner", will be the day you lucky folks around here wouldn't have to put up with me anymore...YEP, as the now overused excuse goes: "Sorry Officer but I just didn't SEE the motorcyclist there, THAT'S all!"...then WHY are they lettin' BLIND PEOPLE DRIVE???) LOL
-
I always thought "Ice Station Zebra" wasn't a bad flick at all, StBart! I know some people think it's a bit of a joke, but I always thought it ratcheted up the tension rather nicely, and the special effects STILL kinda hold up to this day. And, ya just GOTTA love the expression on Jim Brown's face when he figures out much too late who the bad guy really is. MAYBE the best acting Jim ever did, EH?! LOL (...AND, whenever it's shown on TV, in honor of Howard Hughes, I NEVER clip my toenails OR fingernails while watchin' it!)

QUICKSAND.... a question for men (and ladies too) :)

>I'm reminded of my first girlfriend (we were 11) and the Bob Dylan lyrics that would resonate with me a few years later:"You start out standing, proud to steal her anything she sees" . Yep, or as perhaps Joni Mitchell wrote in her song "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio" in her great "Court and Spark" album... "I know you don't like weak women You get bored so quick And you don't like strong women 'Cause they're hip to your tricks" (...uh huh...there's always a little 'conundrum' one must answer for themselves while out their in the "Dating Game", isn't there!) -
MAN...gotta say I think some of "you folks" around here suuuuuure seem a mite too put-off by these clerks who just ask these simple little questions, and that I feel are either easily brushed off OR provide you with an opportunity for some kinda "snappy comeback". Trust me, I would MUCH rather have one of THOSE folks providing me their service THAN some cold and aloof sort scannin' my purchases over that there bar-reader, AND of which I've had a few of THOSE types in front of me TOO! (...hmmmm...I wonder if maybe I'm a little more lenient and accepting of this 'cause as I mentioned earlier in this thing I hail from "La La Land", THE ultimate "Land of Phonies"???...yep, MAYBE I've been "culturized" to this?...anyone wanna tackle THAT here???) LOL
-
Yeah, to you Canadians(who were never able to fully cut those apron-strings from The Crown) it is, anyway! BUT, to us 'Mericans, WHO I might add, thanks to that genius of a lexicographer, one Mr. Noah Webster, WHO not ONLY got rid of all those superfluous letter "u"s in many a word, but ALSO weaned us off many of that FRENCH spelling of words, TOO! (...so bottom line here...IF I send YOU a 'Check" from Arizona, it WOULD be just that, a "check"...AND what you do with it once it reaches you up there in the Great White North is of little concern to me!!!) LOL
-
Well, I suppose we can't ALL appreciate the "snappy(and ethereal) comeback" as much as I can, huh! LOL
