Call it "beginner's luck," I suppose. For some reason, I've never checked out the games/trivia threads.

Cher Inaugural Host of New Film Series on TCM
dpompper replied to RMeingast's topic in General Discussions
Take a deep breath, infinite1. All will be well in a minute. You don't have to like Cher (or any other entertainer). But I think she deserves respect. She's an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy winner, if those hold any credibility with you. I think she's a very fine actress. She sings . . . and has something that few other women of her generation possess . . . staying power. She's an icon. I'm looking forward to her picks. . . no matter what they might be. That's right, hibi. Billy (or was it Whoopi?) didn't so you don't have to, either! Edited by: dpompper on Mar 11, 2013 6:00 PM -
< I mean, aside from anything else, it stars ROBERT MITCHUM.> Indeed, missw . . . and he's at the height of his studly powers, IMHO.

It's one of my fave "quiet" films . . . just watched it again on DVD a coupla weeks ago.

And if you roll down your car windows in the Delaware parts of "Philly area," you get a nice whiff of petrochemicals. -

Indeed. Far more shocking than finding gambling in Rick's Cafe Americain!

I, for one, am very glad to have daylight savings time back in N.J. (Chris Christie is, too. More daylight to see those donuts by!) -

Same thought crossed my mind yesterday when I rolled down a window in the car to catch some what I hoped would be "fresh" air. -

Looks like a young Sigourney Weaver. -
Hmm. That could explain why I have a phobia of fly swatters.

It's a Mayan conspiracy! -
The guy on the right also resembles Gary Sinise.

Yep. I think everyone can appreciate thinking about what they woulda, coulda, shoulda with their career -- regardless of industry.

I dunno. Hindsight is always 20/20.

That context certainly puts your thoughts in perspective. I'm considering cutting my cable TV (the Comcast bill is out of hand!), but I know I'd really miss TCM.

Quality of the YouTube screening had its shortcomings (but I was glad to see it at all for FREE!) and even though it is difficult to discern George's face . . . that voice is unmistakable. I waited for George to crop up whilst watching the film and it wasn't until the end when the two guys appeared again amidst the stars that that voice rang out to me. (So, I didn't pick up on him at the beginning either Edited by: dpompper on Mar 10, 2013 12:51 PM

That's because IT IS George Sanders. I saw his name in the opening credits. One of the smoothest voices in film ever. Unmistakable.

Thanks, Fred. This is one I'd never seen and just watched it courtesy of your link. I'm a big H.G. Wells fan. Opening credits indicated that he actually wrote much of the dialog! How about that?!
