  1. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." She did a made-for-British-TV program, "The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant," and was astonishingly good. Edited by: dpompper on Mar 5, 2013 7:30 PM
  2. I suppose that says something about Americans' taste . . . I'm just not sure what it is.
  3. Read all about Romola Garai's name here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0304801/?ref_=sr_1
  4. Ouch! You make it sound like you're Alex being forcefed unpleasant images.
  5. Late to the party, Addy, I know. Luckily, I had no idea Matthew was headed for such a fate . . . so I was surprised until a minute or so before it happened. As for your "concern" about the actor leaving for greener pastures. I dunno. I have watched MANY British TV dramas (period and non-) They've been the training ground for many British actors/actresses who've gone on to great things. . . Colin Firth, Sally Hawkins, Anna Chancellor, Romola Garai, to name a few.
  6. The talented and lovely Susan Hayward gets my vote for SOTM! She was one of my very first "favorite actresses" when I started watching classic films whilst still in single digits. "The President's Lady" was the first time I saw her. Soon after, "The Lost Moment" became a lifelong favorite. There are more than a sufficient number of Susan Hayward films to designate her as a SOTM. Let's make it happen!
  7. Yeah! I thought he did a fine job acting next to Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America."
  8. That could explain why I haven't been elected prom queen.
  9. yeah, "kewl" is wayyyyy cooler than "cool."
  10. Is your nurve at it again? (Although, I'm not the fan of Mr. Chips that most seem to be . . . )
  11. March 3 . . . thanks everyone!
  12. In that case . . . of course I want to be a contender for that since I love John T.
  13. I screened it once . . . didn't make the impression that "Streetcar" or "The Wild One" did . . . maybe I should give "Waterfront" another chance.
  14. In Paris, perhaps doubtful if Gertrude and Alice B. would allow entry for folks who couldn't dress for the occasion!
  15. WBS . . . for more on this, check out one of the (many) special features on the Criterion Collection DVD of "Rebecca." It is a salient point well underscored. So, it's not really "a joke," at all! Edited by: dpompper on Mar 4, 2013 3:40 PM
  16. OK, I was missing you, mongo. It's my birthday today and I wanted to see which celebs shared. I went on google and saw JH and several others.
  17. That's why even if there's some classic film that doesn't particularly interest me . . . if the fashions are kewl, I'll keep watching.
  18. <Hosting TCM, is prestigious in certain circles.> Yes, but shirley the drivel that passes Drew's lips negates any modicum of prestige associated with the privilege.
  19. Neither did Skipper in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
  20. Hat envy much? Now there's a concept worth pondering.
  21. Must say that I'm VERY glad TCM doesn't do these things . . . yet.
  22. She's scary. With those drawn-on eyebrows, her head looks like a car hood ornament.
